Chapter 407: Torture begins

"Are you sure you are all ready for this?’’ Alby asks us with a calm expression on his face.

I want to scream at him. Tell him that I have been ready for this since the day I met them. I turn to Rex and he grabs my hand in his, slowly, I reach for Gyles and he is smiling and watching me.

I should be afraid. It is not going to be easy because we have to appease the goddess. We have to show her that we are worthy of this gift. But I am not afraid because I have Rex and Gyles by my sides. I am not afraid because I am doing this for myself as well. I am not afraid because I trust these two men.

"I am ready. I have been ready for this my whole life," I tell Alby and he nods, his smile even wider. I guess that is the answer that he wanted.

"This is not going to be easy. Your patience is going to be tested in there. You have to stay strong,’’ he tells us.

Yeah, I asked Jules about this, she told me that the goddess is going to test us. She is going to try to break us down. She is going to try to make us doubt ourselves. She is going to try to scare us. I know that I am ready for it.

"We won’t fail," Gyles tells him with a confident smile on his face. Rex is nodding his head in agreement with him.

"I know you won’t. You are going to do great."

We all step back and Alby holds his hand out, the barrier lifts up and we step forward. I look back at Alby and then back at Gyles and Rex. They have a determined look on their faces. We walk into the forest and a path starts to appear in front of us. We walk down the path and into the darkness. We walk for what seems like an eternity. I look back and the path is gone. The forest is a dark maze that we need to navigate through. I can’t see anything; the trees and bushes are blocking our view.

I can feel Rex and Gyles so I know they are still here with me. We walk in silence for what feels like forever, but we keep going. I am not sure how long it takes but I see the caves finally. this is the place we are going to be in for four days. I know it is going to be torture. especially knowing that I wouldn’t be with them until the last day--if I survive it.

"So, once you enter, you will not be able to come out of it until the third day. do you accept?’’ I hear Alby’s voice through the darkness. I nod my head because I don’t have a choice. This is something I have to do; I am the cause of this. I had sex with Gyles, without rex and somehow, he is going to suffer because of us.

Not your fault.

He sends me a mind link, almost like he can tell that this is bothering me. Rex is our comfort. He is the one that brings the three of us together in this relationship. I know that we can all rely on him.

There are three different caves in front of us. I know what this means and even though I am ready for this, I still feel dread inside me. I don’t want to leave them but I know I have no choice.

"Good luck,’’ Alby calls after us as I take one last look at them and walks into the cave and the darkness starts to lift. I can see the walls of the cave; it is quite beautiful. the walls are made of stone and it is very smooth. The ceiling is high and the floor is covered in sand, it is surprisingly warm. I walk further along the path and I can see the end of it. I keep walking and I finally reach the end of the cave. I look around and the only light comes from above--the moon as it shines on me. I don’t know what I am supposed to do. I don’t know what is going to happen but I slowly sit down on the warm sandy grass with my hands on my knees.

I don’t know what to do. I close my eyes and take deep breaths. I can hear the wind whispering to me but I don’t know what it is saying. I am starting to feel a little bit claustrophobic but I force myself to breathe. I can hear the wind whispering my name and then it stops. I hear the sound of water and a beautiful garden appears in front of me. I look around and it is beautiful. it is so peaceful. The flowers are pure white with a very sweet smell. Not the kind of smell that is too overpowering, but just enough to make you feel relaxed. I walk forward and I see a small pond in the middle of the garden. I walk slowly, I am not sure if I can touch the water because it looks like it is made of ice.

I reach the pond and dip my hand in it, it is warm. I look down and the water is so clear that I can see all the way to the bottom of the pond. At the bottom of the pond, I see a reflection of myself, but it isn’t me. I see my mother in the reflection. she is a lot younger than I remember and her eyes bore into mine.

I know this is just a mind trick. I have been thinking about her too much, that is why she is here right now. I close my eyes because I don’t want to be seeing her right now.

I hate her so much. I try to stand up and walk away from the pond but it feels like my legs are stiff suddenly.

Like I am trapped.

Her reflection starts to move as she gets closer to me and out of the water. This isn’t just her reflection; she is inside the water. I try even harder but the more I struggle, the faster she gets closer.

I close my eyes as she jolts out of the water and grabs me by my collar into the water.

It feels like I am drowning. I can’t breathe.
