Chapter 31: Bonding after an attack

I see one of my brothers, at the brink of death and I don’t know what to do. Everyone is already awake at this point. I walk over to Moe and his eyes are slightly open. Getting on my knees I grab him by his waist until he is in my arms. I need to get him help first. He groans out in pain as I lift him up and carry him. Blood covers my body as I lead him to the direction of our infirmary. Someone did this to him and whoever did this came into the community. I see the bite marks on his neck. There are numerous, which tells me that Moe fought with whoever hurt him.

I stop in front of the infirmary and Volk, one of the healers walks out and his eyes open wide from the shock that is in my arms.

"What happened?" he asks as the same time grabs Moe from me. I follow him into the building and he places Moe on a bed in a room.

"I don’t know, i found him like this. Will he be alright?"

At this point, Moe Is unconscious and barely breathing. I can sense the life slipping out of him, he got bit by a vampire, I don’t know if he will be able to survive. Ogma, another healer comes into the room and the same expression is on his face. I watch them as they cut the clothes off Moe and start to clean him up and my heart breaks from the view. I don’t know what is happening and I don’t know why all this is happening but it is just too much. They are killing my family and I am supposed to be the leader, I am supposed to be the brave face but right now I don’t know what to do. I am terrified. How do they all look up to me when I don’t even know what to do.

Ogma leads me out of the room and as the doors close my heart crumbles in my chest. I might never see Moe alive again. He might lose his life today and there is nothing I can do to help him "We will do everything we can," she tries to give me some assurance but it is not working. All the hope i had earlier is slowly dying.

The door to the entrance of the infirmary opens and Bells walks in with an alarming expression. Her hair is packed up to a messy bun and she is dressed in shorts and a sports bra. "What’s wrong?" I ask her already scared of her being here.

"They are still here, Alanis went after them."

My heart stops for a second at her words, I don’t want to believe her right now "What are you talking about?" I ask her hoping it is not what I think it is. I can’t lose him right now.

He ran into the woods, he said he could still sense them. The people that hurt Moe, he said they are more than one.

I don’t wait for her to finish talking; I don’t try to get more information. I don’t know where I am going but the speed, I take to the direction of the woods is fast and unlike any I have ever done. I run until my limbs break, I run until I am at my strongest and fastest. I can smell Lanis from a mile away, he is surrounded by unfamiliar scents. I smell blood. I stop in front of a view that I never want to witness again and as Alanis fights with three vamps my heart breaks. The anger in me surfaces, and the only thing I want to do is protect him, I need to protect him.

He doesn’t notice me as he jumps and grabs one of the vampires by the neck. I hear bones break. I know they will heal, this is an ambush, three to one is an unfair battle and I run to help him. Lanis notices me but it is too late. I feel the jump from behind. i am in my wolf form. I should’ve sensed whoever it is but I was too distracted. The man grabs me from behind and scratches the space between my head and chest. I feel the pain but in my wolf form, I am stronger. Being caught off guard, he pushes me so hard and so fast that I feel the bark of a tree break beneath me.

Lanis shouts out my name but is unable to leave his battle to help me. i see the man responsible for my attack and anger boils from within me "The man of the hour," he mutters with a demonic smile. His eyes are a bright red, he has a murderous expression plastered on his face and as he smiles, his fangs come into view, there is blood dripping in between his lips. I stand all four and he walks closer to me, he wants this fight and I want to kill him so badly.

"We’ve been waiting for you, too bad you had to send your boyfriend to come fight your battles." I look to where Lanis is and they are no longer fighting. The other three vampires have him gripped and on his knees, his wounds that they caused seems to have healed but I have never seen him in this weak condition before.

I shift back to my human form because it doesn’t seem like they intend to fight anymore "What do you want?" I ask the man. He is still smiling but now there is an amused expression on his face. He is enjoying this a little too much and it is getting on my nerves.

"I want to kill all of you," he answers me point blank.

His words anger me but I won’t win this battle now, especially with Lanis being so weak. "There is a treaty, you are not allowed to hurt us," I explain.

He laughs.

"I don’t conform to rules, I do whatever the fuck I want to," the tone of his voice is conceited and I know who this is. This is the man, in the video, this is the man that Lanis said was going to start the war. He must be so brave to come here, to come to my home, to hurt my family.

"How dare you trespass?" I yell.

This makes his laugh again; this Is all fun and games to him. People’s lives are at risk and he doesn’t give a shit.

"Leave now before you get hurt," I warn him. All I have to do is howl, that is all I need to do to get the rest of my pack here and ready to attack. They are no match for all of us. It will be four of them against every one of my family.

"With a snap, Lanis could be dead right now, I am surprised he even had the strength to try and fight." I am confused and he gets joy in explaining "When last did he have blood?" he asks me. I don’t have a clue, and that makes me realize that I haven’t taken any time to focus on his needs, it has been about me for the past couple of days and now this happens.

"You don’t even know, this is not a fight with my kind, but I will be back. I will be back and you will all be dead the next time I show up," he doesn’t wait for me to react or reply as they all jump up to the trees and disappear. I don’t chase after them because I don’t want to fight right now. I am exhausted and I need to help my mate.

Lanis falls to the ground and his eyes close slowly "Baby," I grab him into my arms and lift him up. his eyes open and he smiles faintly, his voice weak "I am sorry I couldn’t fight them," he manages.

I shake my head because he shouldn’t be the one apologizing. This is all my fault, I didn’t take care of him and now he is hurt "Come on, let’s get you home," I lead us back to the houses and stop once we are in front of mine. Fallon is outside with a couple other people and he walks over to me immediately with a frown "What is going on? I heard Moe was attacked by vampires.’’

I sigh because I can’t think about that right now, I need to get Lanis back to normal strength. He needs blood and I need to find blood to give him "Get everyone to the meeting room, I will be with you guys in thirty minutes," I tell him. I can sense the anger due to the fact that I am ordering him around but I don’t give a shit right now.

He sighs and we walk into the house but different directions. Rex is in front of my room with a worried expression. He follows me as I place Lanis on my bed softly. He trembles beneath the sheets and I become more worried.

"What’s wrong with him?" Rex asks shakily.

"He needs blood," I explain "I need you to get me a bag of blood," I command him.

He shakes "Where would I get a bag of blood from right now?"

I glare at him because I have no fucking clue but I need him to go and find a way "Fucking bring a human here if you have to, I don’t have time for this shit." I shout at him and he runs out of the room and out of my site.

I look at Lanis and his eyes are open, his breathing is unsteady and terrifying "Baby," I call him. He manages a smile and reaches for me. His hand brushes my face slowly "I’ll be fine," he stutters.

"What do I do?" I ask him.

"Call Eligio, he will help," I grab his phone from the bedside table and check the call log. I dial his number and surprisingly he answers on the first ring "Are you okay?" he questions almost like he knew something was wrong.

"We need blood, help us,"

"Is he awake? let me talk to him,"

"He’s barley conscious, should I send someone over?"

"I’ll bring some right away." Eligio ends the call and I drop the phone on the bed with shaking hands.

"It’s fine, I’ll be alright." he tries to assure me. I don’t believe him and my heart is heavy in my chest. I won’t be able to survive if something happens to him.

"What about my blood?" I ask him.

He furrows his brows like he can’t comprehend what I am saying. Like my words are foreign to me. "My blood, I’ll give you my blood," I pull him up on the bed until he is resting on my chest.

"I can’t, what if something happens to you?" he is hesitant but I need to save him first.

"I’ll be fine, trust me."

I place my wrist in front of his lips and he watches me with the little strength he has left in him. He is unsure but I watch as his eyes stare at my wrists hungrily. "Come on baby," I urge him.

His fangs spring up and this is the second time I am seeing him in his true form. Somehow, I am excited, I want to experience this with him. I love him so much. As his fangs pierce into my skin and I feel the sting, relief escapes from my lips with a soft sigh. The color on his skin brightens and the light in his eyes shine as he watches me and takes part of me into him.

I close my eyes because this moment feels more intimate than sex.

This feels like a bond.
