The Werewolf's Vampire Mate -
Chapter 180: Chocolates
Chapter 180: Chocolates
Rex.
I wish I hadn’t said I didn’t want to go. Knowing that blue will be with them the whole weekend changes the dynamics.
Now it will look suspicious if I say I do want to go.
Gosh, all these confusing emotions stirring inside me are driving me crazy. I know it is already too late to suggest going. What is the point of going now? The reasons why I didn’t want to go still stand on ground. I just want a break from werewolf duties. I don’t want to think about packs and Cassius. They will definitely talk about him. I don’t want to hear about him, think about him—or even breathe anywhere anyone that is talking about him. This man terrorized us. Still thinking about it makes me scared. Wonder what the fuck, caused all this.
Why us?
I walk back to my room with all my thoughts revolving around Blue. The way he looked at me, the way he touched me. I am almost certain he is my mate. I mean, this is what I wanted. I have been longing for this person for so long, so why do I feel like something is off. There is this complete feeling you get when you find your mate. You want to be with the person forever, you are content but a part of me is not fully content.
What does that even mean?
My phone rings in my pocket, the caller ID is Frieda. Frieda is a friend from school. She has been helping me send my assignments to me all through this whole drama. Usually, Beau and I are always together in school but he mostly absconds. So Freida is the only other person that I call a friend.
She is the only other person that is nice to me.
"Hey,’’ she breathes into the phone excitedly.
"Hi Fry,’’ I call her by her nickname.
"So how is your family now. Are things settled?’’ she asks.
She doesn’t know all the details because I try to keep my home life private and I don’t want to be the cause of any problems. Trusting people means there is a chance for betrayal. I don’t want to be betrayed.
This is why I keep my life and who I am a secret. Frieda just knew that I was going through some stuff, she didn’t know that it was literally life or death.
"Things are way better now,’’ I smile into the phone. Beau saved us. Everyone thought he wasn’t going to do it but I always believed in him. I always knew he was brave and strong. I knew he was going to be our hero.
’’That’s great, do you want to go to a party?’’ she asks.
I shake my head immediately. I am not ready for a party. Beau is the only person I let drag me to parties. I just left her for a couple of weeks and now she is suggesting parties. She should know that I wouldn’t agree with this.
"Come on man, it’s just one party." She cries into the phone.
"when?’’
I look up from my bed and wait for her reply "Tomorrow night. Don’t worry, it is not the type of party you think it is. A couple of guys from the STEM club are having a get-together. I need someone to go with so I don’t look like a nerd.’’
I want to tell her that she is a nerd but I keep that comment to myself.
"Okay,’’ I agree with a sigh.
It is not the kind of party that I thought, so I could go for it. The truth is, I am a nerd. The only reason why I was in the cool clique is because of Beau. No one could classify us as Nerds because of him. He just has this aura that screams popular. With Frieda, we are in the same cliques. The right type of friends.
"Thank you, thank you,’’ she rambles continuously until I end the call.
After the call, I go out of my room to the kitchen to get water. Gyles is seated on the stool by the counter. He is eating a bar of snickers and there is a can of coke in front of him. He jumps off the chair immediately. terrified that I snuck up on him—not that I did.
"Sorry, I’ll leave.’’ He grabs the soda and heads over to the direction of the door/. I stop him because I don’t want him to leave because of me. Gyles is scary. Just the fact that he is involved with Cassius is scary to me. I don’t know how I feel about the fact that Beau let him stay in the main house with us. I don’t trust the guy. He was involved with that bastard.
"You don’t have to, you can stay.’’
He stops walking and turns around. The surprise on his face. I look at him for the first time and notice how handsome he is. His eyes are green, like crystals under a full moon. His hair is jet black, almost a contradiction to the brightness of his eyes. He looks my age. Very young and innocent. He is tall like I have to look up at him to see him clearly.
"Thanks,’’ he mutters and goes back to the stool.
I walk over to the fridge and grab a bottle of water from it "I thought you were a vampire...how come you’re eating chocolate so deliciously?’’
I don’t know why I am starting a conversation with him. I never do things like this but he looked so lonely sitting here in the kitchen and I also have a couple of things I am curious about.
"I don’t even know what I am anymore,’’ he utters quietly.
His voice is deep, the baritone travels through the night and to my skin. It gives me goosebumps.
"Does it taste like food to you...or is it gross?’’
He shrugs and takes another bite; I watch him as he licks the chocolate off his lips. My eyes remain on them. I don’t know why. "It tastes like chocolate...not the kind I used to have as a kid. This one tastes sweeter.’’
"There are different types. Not just snickers. The only reason why we have these in the fridge is because Beau is obsessed but I could get you some tomorrow. So, you can find your favorite,’’’ I suggest eagerly. I don’t know what the fuck I am doing. Why am I doing this?
He looks at me and for a second, he doesn’t say anything. To me, it feels like his eyes are staring into my soul. Eating at the strings of my heart, making it fall.
"Thanks,’’ he mutters finally with a smile. This is the first time I have seen him smile. In all the week he has been here and I have to say, it is the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. I don’t know what Is happening here but as his smile vanishes, I groan internally. Wishing I could get to see that smile again.
What is going on?
He takes the last bite of the bar and I watch him as he tosses the wrapper into the trash can. He grabs the soda "I should go. This must be weird for you; I’m sure.’’
When I first walked into the kitchen and saw him—I for sure thought it was going to be weird but now that he is leaving, I don’t want him to. I wish he’d stay and talk to me "No, it’s not,’’ I assure him with a slight stutter. He is making me nervous right now and I don’t think he even knows it.
"You sure?’’ he raises a brow.
I know he is fishing for something. Beau said he could stay in the pack but I also know he doesn’t feel welcome here. He has been here for a week, I am surprised he hasn’t left.
"Very,’’ I admit.
The smile comes back to his face. My heart races in my chest. The confusion that is going on in my mind is very big. I don’t know what is happening because when I think about Blue, there are butterflies in my tummy and now, looking at Gyles. I want to know more about him. I want to be his friend. I want to make him smile.
"Thanks, Rex,’’ he says my name. I didn’t even know that he knew my name. suddenly, this makes me feel even more special. It makes me happy that he took the time to learn my name. yeah, I know it is stupid but that is what is going on right now.
"Sure,’’ I manage.
He heads to the door "Do you want to go to a party tomorrow?’’
He stops and faces me again "party?’’ he asks.
"Yeah, not a party, party, but like a get-together with friends. You could use this opportunity to get out of the pack and see the real world,’’ I suggest.
I don’t know how Beau will feel about this but I want to do this for him. Maybe this is just me wanting to spend time with him.
"Sure.’’
