Chapter 86: The end of their honeymoon
The night drawled, Cedric didn’t sleep that night but just spent it with his wine. After Abrielle was done with her bath. She changed into her nightwear.
The entire time he didn’t spare her a glance. Sleeping was a bit uncomfortable, knowing he was in a corner of the room just drinking and staring at the flames.
Eventually, she fell asleep, and by the next morning, he was already out of the room. Abrielle didn’t know how she was going to handle this half cold, half warm Cedric but it seemed like this was for the best.
Especially now she was getting confused about him. The next morning they had breakfast very early in the morning so that they could set out early.
"It was an honour to host you." The duke extended his gratitude. Cedric nodded, sparing him some words of gratitude. The rest of the Duke’s children were still asleep except for Seline, who wanted to send forth her lover in Abrielle’s description.
It was so early, and she had some makeup on her face, deliberately trying to look her best. The princess clicked her tongue at the fool, who had no idea she was throwing herself to the devil.
"Have a safe journey, Prince Cedric." Seline wished Cedric with the sweetest smile ever. Abrielle was expecting Cedric to act cold to her as he was a psycho, and he didn’t disappoint.
Cedric just nodded and walked away leaving Seline embarrassed. "Don’t I also get a wish?" Alfonso teased to help Seline get over the embarrassment.
Seline eyes sparkled, "Of course I wish you the same, Prince Alfonso." Alfonso smiled then leaned in to place a kiss on Seline’s hand. Her cheeks went all colours of red.
Abrielle, who was watching all this drama, could not anymore. She rolled her eyes and scoffed. Seline was acting like a fucking teenager. Oh, she forgot the girl was 16 and Alfonso was 21. How annoying.
"Elias, please take me to the carriage," Abrielle instructed, sick of waiting around. "Yes, my lady." Elias agreed, giving her a slight bow. She didn’t bother asking Cedric about his recent attitude. Cedric was already on his horse. Waiting for her, the capital was half a day away so the journey was not too far away.
He had this distinct regal aura around him, and his gold mask gave him a mysterious vibe. He was wearing an all-black outfit that contrasted with his gold mask.
After settling down in the carriage, Abrielle was soon joined by Evelyn. "We will be reaching the capital by noon," Evelyn informed her, Abrielle and soon after the carriage started to proceed.
This time around, their routes were mainly in towns instead of the forest paths they took the previous days. The towns in Ashwood were rather well developed with a lot of commercial areas since it was very close to the capital. The closer they got to the capital the more fear loomed in her mind.
Around two hours past noon, they arrived at the busy outskirts of the capital, the city of Vitalis. The horses continued moving at a steady speed across a forest, which Abrielle recognized. It was a place she wrote about a lot in the novel. The frozen fields look very promising once the snow is gone.
This was the month of Nyxoria, named after the goddess; on Earth’s calendar, it was the month of November. "We are almost there," Evelyn informed her; the entire ride had been quiet; Abrielle barely said a thing, and Evelyn dared not inconvenience her lady.
Abrielle nodded, taking her eyes from the window, "How is the capital?" Abrielle asked; she had never been to the capital as Vesper was miles away, far south of Darconia, while Vitalis was in the north.
"It is a very beautiful city and the most developed in Darconia with the biggest large ports although Vesper has a more commercial port. There are a lot of noble ladies, and I assure you, the capital will be fun." Evelyn praised hoping it would improve Abrielle’s mood. Since yesterday, heavy clouds have been hanging over the entire envoy.
Cedric’s mood was flipping more than regularly, more like he was reverting to how he normally was, in contrast to how he behaved the past days during the honeymoon.
He was actually on his best behaviour but Evelyn guessed the honeymoon period was over. "Let’s hope for the best." Abrielle tiredly said. She knew the capital would be fun but not in a good way since she would be staying in the palace.
She would be surrounded by vultures that want Cedric and her dead because she is married to him, but that isn’t her biggest fear. Returning to the capital marks the beginning of the official plot of the novel, and of course, she has less than a day to kill Cedric, which is impossible.
She had no idea what her fate held for her. The city of Vitalis was divided into two, the outer area and the inner area that was located on an island with only one way in.
The palace was located in the inner area, the same as most of the high nobles. Vitalis was, without a doubt, the largest city in Darconia. Even the inner area had a massive land area.
The carriage left the forest and they approached the city gates. Abrielle’s hands were clenched into a fist knowing this was it.
After crossing the gates, the carriage increased its speed through the city. It was more fascinating than she had imagined. It had towering buildings with fascinating architectural designs that just leave you breathless. Sensing it was a royal entourage going through the streets everyone paid their respects.
Cedric and Alfonso led the procession as they headed to the Lady Canyon drawbridge, the only way connecting the inner area to the outer area because of the strict security of the palace that was located there. Before they arrived at the bridge that way was lower, a group of knights approached them, causing them to halt.
It was the King’s knights believed to be the most trained in the kingdom. The leader of the group rode up to Cedric to deliver urgent news. "The king demands your presence immediately."
Abrielle didn’t hear what they were talking about but she knew what it meant. The official start of the Dragons and the priestess.
