Chapter 84: Her biggest puzzle

The bright room was now pin drop silence; it was so quiet like a ghost just passed by. Polygamy was common in Darconia but it was not wise to State your intentions of being a second wife in front of a new wife of barely 2 months.

Everyone’s attention was on Abrielle; they all heard the rumours of her obsession with Cedric, how she protected him in public and knew Seline saying something as outrageous as that before Abrielle was a very bad idea.

To their shock, the princess didn’t react and continued cutting her food into small pieces. Cedric clicked his tongue in annoyance not that he expected much knowing the true colours of his wife.

Penelope quickly tried to salvage the situation, "Don’t mind my daughter; she lacks some noble manners. She is just a child." Penelope quickly said using her eyes to tell Seline to retract her comment.

"I didn’t mean to offend the princess in any way. The prince is very handsome and my mouth slipped." Seline blurted, finally realizing she was out of line earlier. Abrielle glanced at her but her hands were still cutting her meat.

She tried her best to put on a lovely smile, but deep down, she didn’t like the idea of a second wife. Was she crazy? Why was she so averse to the idea? It was what she had been wishing for. Maybe if Cedric had another wife changing the plot, her chances of survival would be increased, but she just didn’t like Seline.

The girl was too pretentious but then Abrielle was the queen of pretense. "It’s fine, I can’t help it when I have a very admirable husband." Abrielle chimed sweetly, almost biting her tongue.

"I am glad the princess has a caring and understanding heart." Seline chimed with the sweetest smile, Cedric’s cold eyes gave Abrielle a fleeting glance, and then he went back to his meal.

"My mother used to praise me for having a heart of gold." Abrielle chirped while taking a sip of wine. Her expression was serene; you would not sense a thing. Only Abrielle knew of the turbulence she felt at that moment.

He reached out to pick up the glass of wine, but the red wine was bland on his taste buds. The dinner continued pleasantly until it was over. Cedric and Abrielle were led to their room, where they could retire for the day.

"The tub has already been filled with warm bath water to soothe your muscles after your long journey," Penelope informed them before leaving. She also asked if they required the help of servants but Cedric dismissed the idea.

He claimed to be exhausted, "Have a lovely night then." The hostess said before leaving.

Cedric closed the door after Penelope and now it was left, him and Abrielle. "You know I require the help of servants to change." Abrielle sneered at Cedric; she didn’t chirp in earlier because it would have been considered rude too.

Cedric chuckled as he moved to the bed, "I guess you will have to figure it out on your own then." He scoffed at her and then sat on the bed. He ignored Abrielle who was glaring at him while he diligently pulled off his boots.

Abrielle sighed, he was still pissed for an unknown reason to her. She moved to the dressing, although she had never done this before but in her past life, she could handle herself.

All she has to do is repeat the actions of the maids and she would be able to handle it. So she thought but there were too many knots that she could not handle it.

It was obvious that she could not undress herself on her own. She glanced at Cedric, who had pulled off most of his clothes, remaining the black shirt with some buttons left undone and his trousers.

She was able to get rid of the heavy jewellery and overcoat, but the problem was the skirt and the buttons at the back that were hard to reach. Now she understood why zips were invented.

His hair cascaded to his shoulder, and the golden flames from the fireplace cast a shadow on his face that made him more alluring. Abrielle swallowed hard as her throat went dry gazing at him.

She forgot what she wanted to do, "are you sleeping with your mask off?" She asked him, stunned that he had pulled off his mask, exposing that face that was meant to be illegal to have.

"Yes, is there an issue?" He asked her, arching his brows at her. "No, of course not," Abrielle said, turning her gaze away from him to hide her blush. From the mirror, she could see how he was slowly unbuttoning his shirt, revealing that perfect torso.

She bit her lips while bowing her head. He didn’t want her to get any maids in because he wanted to pull off her mask. A sharp breath left her lips as she tried to organize her thoughts.

"Please can you help me undress?" She asked in the sweetest voice she could Morse up. Cedric clicked his tongue showing his obvious displeasure.

He was the most difficult person she knew, she was already thinking of cussing in her head. Her eyes pressed shut to contain her rage until she felt his fingers graze her skin.

Her eyes opened. The first thing coming to her sight was the image of Cedric in the mirror as he pushed her hair away. She didn’t say a thing and waited for him to finish. First, he loosened the impossible knot the maid tied on her skirt before unbuttoning the dressing.

His actions were nibble and precise. The dress slipped and fell on the ground. Leaving just her undergarment, next, he undid the strings of the corset. "Finally, I can breathe," Abrielle sighed, "if it’s too tight, you should have told them to loosen it, but I guess with how strict Evelyn is, she wouldn’t agree," Cedric mentioned.

"Sit," he instructed, then bent over to help her with her long socks. Cedric was a puzzle she could never understand. He was a freaking puzzle. At times, he was cold and distant, then rarely gentle.

"I am done, or do you want me to completely strip you? After all, there isn’t a part of your body I haven’t touched." He teased making her cheeks turn completely red.
