Chapter 395: Marriage arrangement

Chapter 395: Marriage arrangement

The capital of Sumeria had fallen, and the war was over. The sweetest smile ever that made her blue orbs sparkle was on Abrielle’s face as she read the letter from Cedric. They will be arriving at the capital soon.

It was just like the original novel, Cedric conquered the capital in less than a day. Sumaria was a small kingdom so the journey from the border to the capital didn’t take long, barely a day’s ride

Since the majority of its forces had been deployed to the borders, and reinforcement from their allies was being held back by Eris. The battle in the capital didn’t take long.

The new king was executed and the nobles conceded to Darconia. Sumaria was in shambles, and a general from Darconia was given the land temporarily.

It will take a while before Sumaria will be completely subjugated to Darconia. From what Abrielle remembers, there was a marriage between the youngest princess of Sumaria and the delegated noble from Darconia, who was given the land to rule.

Well, that was another story and had nothing to do with Cedric.

Abrielle’s heart felt light thinking about seeing him again. It was crazy how she dreaded his presence before.

"Queen Eleanor wrote requesting your help for the welcoming banquet," Evelyn informed Abrielle, who was still smiling at the letter. Even his handwriting was exquisite.

"Can I reject?" Abrielle replied, Evelyn sighed shaking her head.

"Unfortunately you can’t. It is required for you to participate as the first prince’s wife. You are technically Eleanor’s daughter-in-law." Evelyn explained. Abrielle didn’t like the thought of working with Eleanor but it was her duty.

Even in the original plot, Eleanor has requested her help. It was on this occasion that Abrielle made a dumb plan to poison Calista but was stopped by Cedric.

Who dragged her from the palace back to the seaside castle, she was locked up in a tower for two long days. This action only increased her resentment for Calista. Although that might not happen this time around she still felt wary about working with Eleanor.

"Why does she need me when she has 2 other co-wives?" Abrielle bitterly complained, although she knew Eleanor would rather work on her own than request Karissa or Marinette’s help.

The carriage door was pulled open and an elegant figure dressed in blue stepped out. She was wearing a small hat that protected her eyes from the sun and matched her dress.

Her steps were perfect and displayed the highest levels of elegance. Abrielle did not stop at the main entrance that led to the king’s court, but at another entrance normally not used by others, which led directly to the Queen’s court.

The stellar palace, located at the rear of the silver crescent palace, was controlled by the queen. It served as a harem.

Abrielle made her way in, and the guards bowed at the prince’s consort as she walked by. Abrielle’s eyes darted around the familiar walls. She remembered the last time she was here.

It was during the tea party to officially introduce her to the royal ladies. A dead smile crept on her face, remembering how the system had made her save Eleanor, only for her goodwill to turn into a means Eleanor could have used to kill her.

Now she thinks about it, the system always wanted her dead. It was funny when she thought about it.

Her legs came to a stop, her eyes travelling to a garden across the window. She remembered seeing Cedric and Callista there.

"The queen is waiting for you, your highness." Evelyn reminded her, Abrielle nodded and continued towards the tea room where the meeting was going to be held.

The guards bowed on spotting Abrielle before they opened the door for her. Abrielle didn’t bother acknowledging their presence. She kept her high and proud appearance.

"Announcing the presence of her highness. The first prince’s consort, Princess Abrielle Von Drakkar." Abrielle’s presence was announced. Eleanor was seated with other ladies around a lady.

Abrielle stepped forward, curtseyed, "It is an honour to be before her majesty. The brightest star of Darconia." Abrielle greeted Eleanor. It was all for formalities.

Eleanor smiled sweetly at Abrielle, you would not even believe she was the same person who wanted Abrielle dead a few months ago. "I am glad you honoured, the invitation. It is our honour to have the wife of the war hero with us." Eleanor chimed.

Abrielle glanced up with a very natural smile. It was hard to know she was faking it. That’s right one of the reasons she could not reject it was because the welcoming banquet was also Cedric’s victory banquet.

"I am glad the war is over," Abrielle answered, waiting for Eleanor’s permission to stand up. Eleanor nodded, "You may rise now. We have a lot to do." She instructed and Abrielle did as instructed.

She rose and sat on her designated seat. The ladies available were Bernice, the Queen’s youngest child, and Eleanor, ladies in waiting.

There were a lot of things to do, from food choices to decorations and invitations. Technically everything you expect when it comes to planning a party.

They worked over tea, Abrielle didn’t even take the slightest sip still being wary of Eleanor. "We have to be extra careful about the details because of the special announcements to be made," Eleanor mentioned.

Time had gone by and the sky had an orange hue spread across the sky. "Is it the marriage announcement of the chosen delegate?" Abrielle curiously asked, she knew a noble was chosen to wed a princess of Sumaria.

The reason was to reduce the resistance from the citizens to the new rule. Bernice seemed uncomfortable about the conversation, her hands playing with the ruffles of her dress.

"Yes, I can see you are informed. Bernice’s marriage to the surviving prince of Sumaria would be announced. He swore his loyalty to the crown of Darconia. Princess Bernice will be the first Duchess of Kelvax. " Eleanor announced and Abrielle could sense Bernice visibly tense up

Eleanor was marrying off her daughter to someone who might consider her an enemy. Abrielle was confused because this wasn’t the marriage arrangement she remembered.

Sumaria was going to be changed to a duchy named Kelvax. Events were starting to change.
