Chapter 226: Sassy and grumpy
Abrielle’s eyes met Cedric’s eyes he had the final say in this matter. She didn’t even know why Rebecca wanted to have Callista stay for dinner.
Lucien’s jaw clenched not liking the idea. "I am not the lady of the house. Abrielle has the final say." Cedric mentioned making the princess wonder when her opinion started to matter.
"I am sure Abrielle is fine with it. It is not everyday your father and I have a chance to have a meal with the crown prince and the new holy lady." Rebecca chimed grabbing Abrielle’s hand. She was trying to manipulate Abrielle. Abrielle was genuinely tired of this drama.
"If the prince and his companion are fine with it. I have no problem with it." Abrielle lied through her teeth keeping the fake smile Cedric could easily identify. He knew she didn’t want to be anywhere close to Callista.
He would have loved to respect her wishes but his duty would not let him. He just had a conversation with Lucian revealing very disturbing information. He had thought he would be able to keep his distance from Callista but it would be hard for the next few days.
"Are you sure about that?" Cedric asked, his voice calm with his expression stoic making it hard to know whatever was going through his head
"It’s just dinner and we have more than enough." Abrielle shrugged, then glanced at her mother. "I have to check up on something before dinner, Mother," she said, then nodded at Cedric before fleeing the scene.
’ Dumb Abrielle, dumb Abrielle, why couldn’t you just say no.’ she cursed herself in her head, walking away in fast steps. Rebecca watched her daughter leave before glancing at Cedric. It was a fleeting glance; from experience, she knew he wasn’t simple in the least way.
No one related to the Von Drakkar family was. "See you at dinner." She chimed, then turned around, moving away. Her gentle clicking steps followed after her.
As soon as Rebecca was far away, Callista bowed her head. Why did she agree in the spur of the moment? She didn’t like the way Rebecca taunted her. "I am sorry if my actions offended you in any way." She blurted playing with her fingers.
"It’s no big deal the deed had already been made. Just don’t run off like last time; my in-laws already have a bad impression of me. I don’t want it to be worse." Cedric mentioned.

There was a light tapping sound on the door, drawing the gingerhead princess’s attention. "I will be down for dinner soon." She replied without checking who it was. She was seated in her private sitting room, which was rather cosy, with the fireplace burning lightly, and Yuki nested on her lap.
"So this is where you have been hiding." She heard a particularly annoying masculine voice. He used to be reserved with his words before but now he was slowly turning to a chatterbox.
"I didn’t know you paid much attention to what I do.. I guess you decided to call me down personally."
Abrielle was staying coped away from any unnecessary drama. She had to keep herself recharged for whatever drama.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked, Cedric was puzzled about her behaviour. It was a bit difficult to understand her lately. She was the one who approved Callista, and Lucian was free to join, and yet it felt like he did something wrong.
"Did you? If you feel something is wrong you probably did. You are the genius here so try to figure it out yourself." She gave out a rather snarky comment. Abrielle had grown rather familiar and braver. She was less afraid of him.
He liked the fact they were slowly closing their distance but he preferred it if she was not acting rather sassy. He had a rather long day; the past week was hectic, and honestly, he didn’t have the energy for her attitude.
"Now with the attitude again and I am called the psycho." Cedric groaned, massaging the space between his brows. Abrielle dropped Yuki on the floor and gracefully stood up before replying to him. "I am glad you know that you are one." It was a fleeting comment. Cedric was not offended but found it rather amusing.
"You seem rather brave tonight. What happened to the girl who always has cold sweats in my presence? First, the fiasco at the entrance when I returned, then this." Cedric chirped. Abrielle found him oddly concerned about her.
"You are overthinking, or maybe it is the little conscience in your stone-cold heart that feels guilty. Please stop bothering me, we have guests waiting for us." Abrielle walked past Cedric through the doors.
He clicked his tongue then followed behind her, no words were said between them until they arrived at the dining doors. Abrielle didn’t glance behind although she was puzzled why Cedric maintained a fair distance between her.
She stopped at the door waiting for him. Cedric finally got to her side, giving her his arm to hold, which she accepted, mustering her brightest smile. She was nervous, he sensed from how tense she acted, her hands subconsciously clenched his arm.
"Try to breathe; they are your parents and won’t kill you for making a mistake," Cedric commented, feeling her hold getting tightened.
"Easy for you to say." She muttered, ignoring him, then beckoned the servant to open the doors.
"If you are so nervous about having their presence, I wonder how you will be able to handle our next mandatory night," Cedric mentioned causing Abrielle’s head to snap at him. She was glaring cutely at him. She had to find a way to handle their mandatory nights.
She didn’t understand why Cedric always bothered to show up. It wasn’t like she was the only person he could bury his member in. The original one never touched Abrielle.
The door opened letting the guest catch this moment of Abrielle glaring at him while a rare smile tugged on his lips. "Your parents are watching; if you continue looking at me that way, I might be forced to kiss you in their presence." He teased.
