Chapter 219: Stuck in between

It was a short kiss, one that left her hungry for more. Her hand was aching from the work she just finished but a faint sense of satisfaction lingered in her mind. Cedric broke the kiss, knowing if he didn’t stop now, he would not be able to soon.

They reluctantly parted; it was funny how Abrielle kept on telling herself she wanted nothing to do with him, yet she hoped he didn’t stop.

"There is no need to be so impatient, we will be stuck with each other for a long time." Cedric teased her, sensing her hesitance as he moved away. His hand held her cheek. She slowly realized what was happening since her brain always lags.

She jolted from his hold, hiding her face from him. What was wrong with her? She was making a mistake and she knew it. "I need to get ready for the day." She blurted, trying to change the topic.

Despite being back from a long journey the previous day Cedric was quite energetic and in an awfully good mood that day.

He had some dealings with the court and from the news he heard. The investigation he was on with Lucian and Callista had resumed after Callista recovered while he was away. It was still ongoing even after the incident during the Queen’s birthday.

An investigation revealed despite the fact that Callista was the least hurt during the attack, investigations suggested she was the true target.

Cedric didn’t care who was the main target. All that mattered was that Abrielle was more than hurt during the attack, and he wasn’t going to stop until he had the culprit’s bones under his feet. Till then, he had another matter he needed to take care of.

"Welcome, Your Highness. His Highness was not expecting a visit from you." The butler welcomes Cedric, bowing slightly. This was the Dragon Nest Castle located east of the island within the royal property.

This was Lucian’s castle, and of course, Cedric rarely visited his younger brother unless the occasion demanded it. There has been this silent competition that has always been between brothers from birth.

Although Lucian was born the next year after Cedric they were barely 9 months apart.

"I know, is Lucian in?" Cedric asked, casually walking past the butler, not caring to bother about the slight discomfort the butler felt by his presence.

"The prince currently has a guest over ", the butler replied with prime manners.

"Does that guest, by any chance, happen to be Callista?" Cedric asked, walking further into the Castle. He was acting like he owned the place which he obviously didn’t. Cedric had a very good perception. He could literally track that son of the evil witchy queen by his scent.

"If you mean the holy lady, yes, she is currently with the prince. They went horse riding to explore the castle grounds." The butler explained.

"How romantic is that Lucian going horseback riding with Callista? If Lucian was in a romantic relationship of any sort I would believe that." Cedric scoffed, walking towards the stairs. He helped himself to find Lucian since the butler was being a little lying bastard.

Lucian was in here and his nose was not lying. "Your Highnesses you can’t just barge into here. It is a private property." the butler ran after Cedric grabbing his shoulders.

Cedric paused then glanced at the butler’s hand on his shoulders. Just a simple glance made the butler shiver. He flinched under Cedric’s gaze, quickly retreating his hand.

Cedric snickered and then continued finding his dear little brother; at first, he thought Lucian was his biggest problem and least liked brother, but fortunately for Lucian, Alfonso had taken that position.

"Please, this is improper, Your Highness", the butler continued. He was quite annoying to listen to. Cedric ignored his existence, increasing his strides forward.

The butler panicked, he could not stop Cedric. Cedric stopped at a door, where Lucian’s scent was the strongest, the same with a familiar feminine scent soft and gentle like lilies.

It was a stark difference from Abrielle’s strong rose fragrance, but oddly, he didn’t hate it either. It felt right that he liked another woman’s fragrance, but his heart knew this was so wrong.

And Cedric chose to follow that feeling that told him it was wrong. "It is safe to assume Lucian isn’t behind this door." Cedric taunted the butler, he didn’t wait for the butler’s reply.

He opened the door by himself and unceremoniously made his entrance. It was a library. Quite an interesting location. Cedric matched into the room, following Lucian’s scent until he stumbled upon an interesting scene of Callista and Lucian almost kissing.

For a strange reason, he didn’t like the sight of it. "I was gone for just a month and so much had happened." Cedric chimed.

Callista and Lucian were so lost in the moment initially that they failed to notice Cedric coming inside until they heard his voice. Lucian’s daze was broken. He jerked away moving a few steps away from Callista who was leaning against the shelves still stunned

"I guess I did interrupt something, " he added.

"What are you doing here Cedric?" Lucian asked, trying to salvage the situation.

"Oh me, nothing important. Just looking for someone, and you don’t have to be scared. It isn’t you but your girlfriend here." Cedric said, walking closer to them, his gaze on Callista.

"She isn’t my girlfriend. Stop bothering me and go spend time with your wife." Lucian sneered at Cedric. Callista clutched her dress hearing his reply.

"Okay, I believe you. I guess you have no issues with me having a word with Callista then." Cedric added he had this nonchalant aura around him. His usual personality when he was about to flip his switch.

"What do you want to talk about with me Cedric?" Callista shyly asked, her cheeks burning red..

"Yes, something that caused me a major problem. It came to my notice that you received a letter from me during my travels." Cedric mentioned with a casual smirk on his lips. Mischief was written on his face

"Yes, I did. I am glad you sent them." She admitted.

"Great, so why did you hold on to letters that were addressed to my wife?"
