Chapter 180: A lover

Sebastian was a bit taken aback by Abrielle’s question. It was an easy question to answer but still. "It doesn’t matter. You are already married to Cedric and are my troublesome cousin." He answered avoiding the question.

"When will Ophelia’s wedding be held?" Abrielle asked, changing the topic. "A date hasn’t been set yet, but it will be happening any night from now before the winter prayer is over."

Days passed, and the winter prayers continued as planned. There was no other unexpected drama. During this period, Abrielle barely saw Cedric. He never returned to the room, and the only time she caught a glimpse of him was during the sermons and general ceremony.

Ever since the night he came back from rescuing Callista, he had been busy, he says. Abrielle didn’t ask about what he was doing nor did she care.

Finally, the last night of the winter prayer arrived, and Ophelia’s wedding was exactly how it was in the original plot.

A black dress was sent to her earlier today to wear for the wedding. It was weird wearing black to a wedding but she had no choice since it was sent by Cedric. As much as he was getting on her nerves lately she didn’t want to offend him.

The dress was mainly black with red designs and lace used to cover parts of the dress that would have made it seem revealing. In total, it was a beautiful dress made from very fine silk, exactly the one she had described in the novel.

"Are you ready, Your Highness?" Zoltana asked Abrielle. The princess drew in a deep breath, and next, her lungs were squeezed when Zoltana snatched the strings of the corset. ’ Fashion is pain, ’ Abrielle cried silent tears.

She loved the dress but the torture of fitting into it wasn’t worth it. "Please don’t make it too tight, I need to be able to breathe in the dress." She reminded Zoltana.

"Sorry, Your Highness, I will bear that in mind," Zoltana replied. Abrielle was holding onto a chair while the dress was being snatched.

A few torturous minutes later she was finally ready for the wedding. "You look amazing," Evelyn praised her the same as the other maids. Her red hair shone brightly with the dress. Well, the pain is worth it.

"His Highness will be completely smitten by you once he lays his eyes on you, Princess Abrielle," Zoltana praised her. Maids had the sweetest mouth ever. Abrielle’s cheeks reddened at the thought, but she doubted Cedric would care.

He had only his dear Callista in his heart. The way it should be. She didn’t care and should not if she wanted to survive. Everyone was after her life now and staying by his side was becoming more dangerous by the second.

The door was pushed open, drawing the maid’s attention, and soon they retreated. Abrielle’s back was against the door, but she didn’t bother to check who it was. Her eyes stayed on the mirror as she watched him enter the room.

The only person with free entrance to her room, well, this was meant to be their room, but he chose to stay where only the goddess knows.

"I thought you would not appear and I would be forced to go alone." She mentioned as she watched his reflection that he wasn’t wearing a gold mask but a black one decorated with rubies that matched Abrielle’s jewellery. Their outfits were made to match.

Cedric stopped close to the door. A faint smile hung on his lips; his golden eyes were watching her. She suddenly felt nervous under his gaze. "If I did that your lover might come after me again." Cedric scoffed.

Abrielle was stunned. She snapped her head to stare back at him, confused by what he meant. "Lover, what lover are you talking about?" She asked. Cedric’s Expression was still calm despite her reaction.

He felt disgusted or rather annoyed at how she feigned ignorance. "I thought you won’t turn back. You do look stunning." He complimented her, giving her slight butterflies, but it didn’t clear out the confusion she had.

"Thank you, you also look great, but please, can you explain what you mean by a lover? Because all I have been doing is praying and carrying out my duties while I barely see the man I am married to and now I am being accused of having a lover." Abrielle was not going to let the conversation slide.

Cedric smiled, but it was his cold one; he slowly walked towards her, stopping just a foot away as his height overshadowed her. She was intimidated by his size and aura. Something about him scared her. "I didn’t know you missed me. I thought your lover was enough." He sneered at her.

Abrielle was infuriated by these baseless claims; she didn’t care if he was a powerful villain or not. He could not accuse her of infidelity when he was the one roaming around Callista. "Enough of this nonsense. I don’t understand where this is coming from." She snapped, shoving him off. He didn’t bulge but grabbed her hand, yanking her forward against his hard chest.

Abrielle felt a lump form in her throat, she was a bit scared now. She nervously stared back at Cedric and was taken aback by the look in his eyes. His gaze was intense.

Cedric pinched her chin preventing her from looking away. "Because I ignore most of your acts doesn’t mean I will stand by and watch you have an affair with anyone, especially not my brothers. I don’t care to know exactly what is the nature of your relationship with Alfonso, but if he gets too close for comfort, I will kill him before you." He was not joking and that shook her. Abrielle didn’t understand why he had such an adverse reaction to Alfonso.

"I have nothing special with Alfonso." Abrielle retorted.

"Lies, there is nothing special but he caused a fight because he claims I am neglecting you after the miscarriage. That sounds like a lover that crossed his boundaries."

"Maybe he is right, I do deserve to be happy. Do you have any idea how Eleanor humiliated me in front of everyone and yet I had no one? I know you don’t care about me or the child we lost, but please stop accusing me of having an affair because if you push me, I might end up keeping a lover. At least he will care about me."
