Chapter 154: What was mine

Kaiden was stunned by Cedric’s words. He hadn’t heard anything concerning the identity of the culprit, and presently, all fingers were pointed at Karissa and one other person.

He knew Cedric was triggered by what happened, but the last thing he needed was these two fighting in his palace before they brought the place down. Even he wouldn’t be able to stop them.

"What nonsense are you spouting and pointing fingers at people?" Lucian cut in, tired of Cedric’s self-righteousness.

"As I said, I don’t care about your little schemes or the fact you were able to drag Callista into this, but don’t expect me to sit back if my wife gets cut up in your drama." Cedric sneered at Lucian, he knew he wasn’t a saint either. He never claimed to be one.

Lucian stepped back and chuckled, amused at Cedric, "The way you speak makes it seem like you actually have affection for her when Abrielle is just your plan. You call her your wife when you know fully well I was the one meant to wed her."

Then room temperature plummeted several degrees, "too bad she is married to me now." Cedric scoffed at Lucian who didn’t seem bothered.

"She might be married to you but let’s see how long you remain happy if you are happy in the first place. I am sure that poor girl regrets her decision. Bear in mind, Abrielle will be the last thing you take from me."

"That’s enough, this isn’t the place to fight." Kaiden finally stepped in hoping they would listen to him.

Lucian’s words were the bitter truth that Abrielle regretted before they even got Married in the first place. It was moments like this the voices got louder.

"He is always in your way and wants what is yours. What is so special about him? You are better than him."

"You should end him and this nightmare would be over. Who knows if the reason Abrielle hates you is because of him. Don’t you remember the way she stared at him that day?"

Cedric didn’t stop the voices because everything it said seemed true. He recognized her gaze even if she tried to hide it. She had a distant longing in her eyes. His fingers subconsciously curled into a fist, it was all because of Lucian.

The door creaked open, with the faint lights from the hallway peeking inside. Zoltana carefully stepped inside, closing the door behind her. Her gaze drew to the bed where Abrielle was long asleep.

She heard soft meowing sounds from the corner of the bed where little Yuki stood guard over his mistress, the fireplace burnt lightly giving the room a faint scent of spice, to prevent the living quarters from smelling like ash during the winter, barks and wood from aromatic trees are normally burnt with leaves a perfume aroma when burnt.

"You should not be in here," Zoltana whispered, walking past Yuki to Abrielle, who was still fast asleep. She had a long day today and was so completely exhausted that she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

"Your Highnesses," Zoltana called out lightly, but Abrielle was drawn too far into her dreamland to hear Zoltana.

The princess’s brows furrowed when she felt someone lightly tap her cheeks. Irritated, she thought it was Cedric because he was the only one she knew who could freely enter her bedroom.

"Go away," she whined with her eyes still closed. She rolled over to the other side of the bed. Zoltana’s lips pursed together at Abrielle’s actions. She needed to wake Abrielle up so that they could start her training.

At night was the only time they could practice while avoiding eyes. Zoltana then reached out for Abrielle’s shoulder then shook her until she finally woke up. An annoyed frown and strong look of displeasure scrunched up on Abrielle’s face as she turned to the person who woke her, ready to lash out, but her anger quelled once her eyes fell on Zoltana.

Confused, she asked, "What are you doing here?" She asked, rubbing her eyes as she sat up. A long yawn left her lips while she stretched out her hands. She was exhausted.

"Sorry for interrupting your sleep, but we agreed on starting tonight." Zoltana reminded Abrielle, and instantly, her eyes were cleared from every sleep that lingered.

"I had a long day and ended up forgetting." She answered. Abrielle pulled her leg to the side as she got off the bed. "It’s fine. I would have skipped today, but I need to teach you the concealment spell before the winter prayer. First, we need to test what your affinity is," Zoltana explained.

Abrielle had an idea of how the test was done as she had written it herself. "Are we going to practice in my room or elsewhere?" She inquired walking away from the bed towards the center of the room.

"It will be better if we use somewhere more conspicuous. I have already prepared it somewhere. " Following Zoltana’s suggestions, they left the room. Outside the door, Abrielle saw another familiar sight of the Guard asleep again.

Knowing how easily Zoltana could handle them made her a bit scared. Luckily, not everyone in this world possessed magic, only a few from noble families. That to be said, despite being from the wandering clan, Zoltana was technically considered noble as she hailed from a line of seers.

They successfully left Abrielle’s chambers and headed up to the attic on the top floor. Zoltana had stolen the key and made a copy of the keys so they could easily access it.

The attic was not accessible, so no one would catch them in there. The lock clicked open, and Zoltana stepped in first, carrying a lantern, followed by Abrielle. The room was very dark, with the only source of light being the faint moonlight. Abrielle’s eyes wandered around the stuffy, dusty room as she strayed towards the window.

Her eyes seemed to have caught sight of someone. It was Cedric and he seemed to be returning from somewhere late at night. She could not see him clearly; he seemed to be smeared with blood.

Cedric seemed to have felt her gaze and looked up in her direction, but she quickly hid from the window. Her heart was hammering in her chest with a lump forming in her throat.
