Chapter 153: All a plan

The door creaked open, and Cedric’s eyes darted around the study that was dimly lit with candle holders and filled with books. He could hear voices coming from inside the study it was Kaiden and Lucian.

They were so engrossed in their conversations that they didn’t hear Cedric come in. "What you did was dangerous? What if Abrielle had gotten injured?" He heard Kaiden snap at Lucian who didn’t sound repentant.

"One way or the other, the plan worked; they have no choice but to export to us, and Lady Marinette’s daughter Ophelia will be able to secure a diplomatic marriage with Galvia," Lucian argued. Everything was planned, and Callista was just a pawn in Kaiden’s hand.

"Cedric almost lost it because of that stunt." Kaiden clicked his tongue in displeasure. He was still shaken by the murderous intent Cedric’s aura had. It was hard to believe that he was his son and yet there was such a large gap.

Kaiden knew Cedric’s strength, and it was one of the main reasons he was scared of him having the throne. Naturally, the throne is passed to the queen’s eldest son, but in rare situations, the King can choose another son from a different wife if he feels the Queen’s son is lacking.

If Cedric had more political power, he could easily usurp power, making his marriage to Abrielle a very big challenge. "I did what you asked, Father; Callista was also hurt. She broke down because of our selfish reasons, too. She might not be from royal background but she had done a lot for the country. I am sure Cedric couldn’t care less about Abrielle. After all, he isn’t capable of being compassionate." Lucian sneered at the king.

The room seemed to have gone still; the king’s eyes dulled as his gaze fell on Cedric, who stood not too far away. "Not capable of Compassion." He repeated in a mocking tone after Lucian who gritted his teeth as he slowly glanced at Cedric.

He was calm with the air around him, remaining still; Cedric slowly approached the large wooden desk; Kaiden was seated behind the desk while Lucian stood in front as they spoke about their little scheme.

Everything was crystal clear, and Cedric realized their intentions immediately. Lucian claimed Callista was his fiance. He knew Lucian was not in love with Callista; he did have a liking due to her sunny personality and talent, but it wasn’t love.

Callista was the one whose gaze always held the admiration and sparkled in Lucian’s presence he felt uncomfortable with that gaze and the crazy voice in his head always asked why he didn’t anyone look at him in that way definitely not his wife who hated him for a good reason

After all, she was married to a psycho that endangered her life at every moment.

Kaiden’s plan was simple; although they would win the war, in the winter it was not ideal, and yet they needed the supplies from Galvia. He baited the royal family with the Thought of their daughter being the crown princess which they could not ignore.

Galvia was a kingdom with stronger economic power than military powers. Unlike Darconia, they excelled in both, but their military strength was the strongest on the continent.

Taking the bait, he lured them in intending to show Darconia’s strength. Although it would have been simpler for them to agree to the marriage Galvia wasn’t considered fit to be the crown princess. They didn’t have a strong territory.

Now Ryker had felt their strength, they had to agree to the marriage not just for bilateral trade but to form an allegiance with Darconia. The only thing was that Cedric was left out of the loop but he quickly figured it out.

"Don’t tell me a tyrant like you have a heart." Lucian sneered at him. "You make it seem like I am so heartless I don’t care about anything. To be frank I don’t care if the kingdom starve or not.." Cedric drawled, approaching them; he knew what happened to himself at that moment. The dagger came at her. He honestly didn’t care about anything and just wanted to tear off Ryker’s arm. The only thing that held him back was Abrielle.

She already saw him as a monster he didn’t want her to see him as something worse. Not even when the voices told him to step in and help Callista, he wasn’t moved, but that stark moment almost finished everything.

"Cedric how can you say such a thing!!" Kaiden snapped at him; Cedric stopped a foot away from Lucian, his eyes filled with hatred as he glanced back at his younger brother.

He always hated Lucian, without a doubt, born just a year apart. They both had totally different lives. "Why can’t I? Do you think I actually care?"

"I was sent to war at the age of 13 and spent years fighting for Darconia, and in the end, what did I get their hatred and cusses? I don’t care about the same people that hate me, and even if there will be a famine, my pantry would never be empty.."

"You chose Lucian as your successor I said nothing about it. You stood by and watched Eleanor mistreat your own blood, and I never blamed you. I was sent early to war and scarred because of Astrid when I did completely nothing but just exist. Did I ever complain to you, then, Father?" Cedric’s accusations left Kaiden dumbfounded; he was intimidated by that sharp glare.

"That’s enough, Cedric. You were never a saint in the first place. Did you forget you were never punished for almost killing me when we were children? " Lucian didn’t back down his gold eyes holding an equal intensity.

Cedric smiled. Lucian, "I know the same way your mother is still alive after multiple attempts to kill me, and now she also has a radar on Abrielle even after my wife saved her from dying from her daughter’s poisoning." Cedric revealed, leaving Kaiden stunned, who had no idea.

"What do you mean?" The king could not help but ask.

"It is quite simple, Father, ask your dear wife."
