Chapter 146: Royalty from Galvai
Her heartbeat slowed with her nose buried in his chest. He smelled nice, she thought, and she wanted to stay like this for a while, but some sense was slapped into her brain.
What was she doing? Her eyes snapped up staring back into those gold eyes that seemed to be an endless pool. Abrielle nervously gulped, how long has he been behind her? How much did he hear? She wondered feeling a bit nervous.
She knew Cedric was going to make a big issue out of this and honestly didn’t want died because of some annoying confession by Alfonso. "I ran into him on my way to the banquet hall. I didn’t know you were waiting for me." She mentioned. Her hands pressed against his chest wanting to create some space between them.
"And you had the patient to listen to his rubbish. I prefer it if you don’t get too cosy with my family, especially Alfonso. I am sure you don’t want to hear any nasty rumours." Cedric mentioned tilting her face to stare at his. He was wearing a gold mask although of a different design.
"I understand, we need to get going." She replied to him; it was a bit difficult to hold his gaze when it felt like those eyes could see through her.
Cedric smiled and then leaned forward towards her; her heart jumped inside her chest, nervous he was about to kiss her. What was wrong with Cedric? Was he not scared that Callista might see them?
Her eyes subconsciously closed, Cedric was so close she felt his warm breath that had a hint of wine in them on her face. His lips brushed against hers, making her bite inside her cheeks.
He didn’t kiss her; instead, he chuckled, his voice very close to her ears. "Why are your cheeks so red?" He asked her, she wasn’t blushing earlier but his statement made her blush so hard. She could not believe she expected him to kiss her.
"Try to behave; we can’t afford any drama happening during this banquet," Cedric warned on a serious matter that probably meant she was seen as trouble by the entire royal family. Abrielle snapped her head at him, glaring at him.
Their lips met, and Abrielle froze; it was basically a peck but enough to scramble her brains. Cedric smiled at her expression, it was kind of cute. Abrielle averted her eyes to hide her reaction with her hands clutching her dress.
"Just a little reminder of who you are." He said, then gave his arm, which she accepted but made sure to avoid his gaze. What was wrong with her? Her lower lip was between her teeth.
They made their way towards the banquet hall the entire time there was a deafening silence. The doors were pushed open, drawing everyone’s direction to them. It was a private banquet so only the royal family was here. Kaiden and his 3 wives and all his children.
There was one face Abrielle was not expecting to see, the queen dowager. Cedric’s grandmother wasn’t a resident in the capital because she was sick of the harem drama but instead resided in Ashwood duchy, which shared a boundary close to Vitalis.
The dowager was a lady described to have aged with grace; in her prime, she was stunning and beautiful. Now, her golden blonde had turned grey, but her sharp gold eyes still held an intelligent and obvious dislike for Cedric.
Abrielle exchanged greetings with the elders before she took her seat by Cedric’s side. As expected the queen dowager was indifferent to her. She also wasn’t fond of Cedric; it lay with the fact that she never approved of his mother marrying King Kaiden.
Lucian was not here yet; Abrielle expected him to show up with Callista, which the queen would disapprove of, just like the plot. "She seems like a shy one." Abrielle heard an elderly voice mentioning her, she drew her eyes to the queen dowager seated opposite her.
Abrielle didn’t know what to answer, stunned she even spoke to her. "The fragile ones are often the true vixen. A tyrant and a vixen are a true match." The old woman scoffed.
The room seemed to have become heavy with pressure, the king cleared his throat but it didn’t ease the tension. Nervous, Abrielle placed her hand on Cedric’s hand under the table, rubbing it smoothly.
"I guess we are a match made in heaven. The dowager eyes are indeed sharp." Abrielle chimed with a soft smile looking the least bothered. She guessed this entire family had an issue with her being married to the black sheep of the family.
Her words seemed to have eased off the tension in the room. As the suffocating pressure coming from Cedric resided. The dowager queen seemed vexed by Abrielle then someone unexpected chimed.
"Yes, it’s true; you would not believe that Abrielle saved Mother’s life," Astrid mentioned; she was present with her husband and her daughter, who looked nothing like the general. Well, that is a story for another day.
The queen scoffed in disbelief, not believing Astrid, but there was a wrong timing. The doors stunned pushed open
"Announcing the presence of the second prince of Galvia, Ryker ash Seymour and the first princess Sapphire ash Seymour." The arrival of the guests was announced.
Everyone’s attention was drawn to them; without a doubt, they were good-looking, especially the princess; the siblings had similar traits to Ash’s blonde hair and red eyes.
The siblings approached the king Kaiden to greet him. "We greet the king of Darconia, King Kaiden Von Drakkar, and the lovely queen Eleanore Von Drakkar." They said out of respect.
"It is an honour to have you in our midst." Kaiden acknowledged their greetings, the siblings took their seats, and both parties exchanged a bit of pleasantries just to make the atmosphere lively.
The banquet was about to kick off when Princess Sapphire made an obvious observation. "I can’t help but notice Prince Lucian is absent." She asked. The queen nervously glanced at the king. "He should have arrived by now."
As if on cue, the door was open, and the awaited crown prince arrived, but the people at the table didn’t seem too happy.
