Chapter 141: The lonesome prince
It was a long night, Abrielle could barely have any sleep till the early hours of the day, and she doubted Cedric slept either. He didn’t say anything either as he just lay by her side, hugging her body.
By the time she woke up, it was in the late hours of the morning, and he was already gone. From how cold the spot he laid was she could guess it had already been a while. She didn’t understand why he acted that way last night or if she should be happy or sad about it.
Cedric was messing with her with his personality that flips spontaneously, although it’s been a while since he last flipped. He didn’t even get angry when she snuck out or questioned her on in. Abrielle’s brows furrowed wondering about this.
Sabrina’s words were at the back of her head always; she wondered why she would give up an opportunity to change her fate because she couldn’t kill Cedric. So far, the only thing that she liked a bit about him is his sexual prowess, but it’s ridiculous to think she would give up her chance to live because of a gorgeous man with a big member.
She was sure there were several men out there that could satisfy her if she searched. "We are done." A maid notified Abrielle after they were done with some minor make-up to cover up her black eyes.
From the soft smiles on their faces, she could already guess what they were thinking about, if they had the slightest idea why she didn’t sleep was because of the exact opposite reason.
Abrielle took a good look at her in the mirror. She was a bit surprised about how innovative they were with their make-up since it was a fantasy world and not exactly like the medieval times. They didn’t have to carry abominations on their faces in the excuse of make-up, but instead, the products were somewhat similar to those of modern times.
Abrielle slowly rose from her seat; she was still feeling sleep-lagging. She guessed she might go to bed this afternoon. "Breakfast is already served at the prince’s private dining room." A maid informed Abrielle leaving her a bit puzzled.
If the meal was being served there it could only mean that Cedric was still in the castle this late. Abrielle nodded then made her way out of her chambers to Cedric Chambers at the other wing.
She never understood why there were several dining areas in the castle when Cedric lived alone in the past, and she didn’t think he had many visitors either. As she continued walking down the dark walls that seemed a bit lonesome, she couldn’t help but have a bit of sympathy for Cedric’s character development.
Without a doubt, he was pure evil and did a lot of wicked deeds because of his selfishness, but he was really a lonesome character. Basically, he was an orphan from birth because the king couldn’t care less about him, and he was hated by the queen for being the first male heir from when he was little. He basically started looking after himself and never thoroughly felt anyone’s warmth, not even the maids.
The only time in his dark world he felt a bit of warmth was when she came into his life. Callista was like the sunshine Cedric always craved for. He wanted it all after being shown a bit, but his feelings for Callista weren’t love but a toxic obsession.
Cedric had a wife that was obsessed with him yet he chased after another and craved for what could not be his because Abrielle was not the breath of fresh air like Callista. It was the source of his downfall. Her feet stopped in front of a full-length portrait that hung on the wall of Cedric.
It was amazing but even the artist could not capture his true glory. "Was I a bit too much?" She muttered but shook her head. What was she thinking? Every story needed a villain, someone dark so that everyone could see the light.
Because Cedric’s character development was hard, it didn’t mean Lucian’s life was a fluffy, sweet ride. The main door to the prince’s chambers was opened, and Abrielle continued to venture inside until she arrived at her location.
After taking a breath to calm herself, she entered the room. The maids waited outside, which puzzled her a bit; after the doors shut behind her, her eyes fell on his tall figure standing in front of a window with his hand behind his back. As he gazed ahead, she understood why.
"Good morning; I thought you would never show up." He chimed his gaze drawing her. He wasn’t wearing his mask and there was that face that was messing with her brain. Since the night she saw it, she was slowly crumbling.
"I didn’t have a choice, there was no saying what my dear husband would do." Abrielle chimed walking towards the table. She drew her seat herself and then sat down, ignoring Cedric.
A smirk quirked on his lips; he walked towards the small table and then took his seat. "You make it seem like I am a sort of monster." He mentioned. Abrielle reached out for an already-poured cup of wine. She sipped as an even grin graced her lips.
She arched her brow at him in a questioning manner. "Were you not one? You are infamous for being the bloodlust demon of the battlefield." She bravely taunted
"I guess that’s why the spoilt daughter of the Nightshade family wanted to flee."
"Unfortunately, the horse was not fast enough, and I am here married to you, and basically almost everyone in your family wants me dead." She placed the red wine on the table; in Darconia, during the Winter, wine was boiled with coffee and regularly served at breakfast to help with the climate. It has a rich aroma that was entrancing.
"I am glad you are in a good mood this morning to be able to ramble." Cedric picked up his cutleries to start eating.
"Why won’t I when I had a nice nap last night? By the way, I have been meaning to ask, have you been able to find out the person who drugged you that night? You basically forced yourself on me." Abrielle asked and there was a slight change in his mood.
