Chapter 130: Let her go

Zoltana was drenched in sweat with her breathing heavily. As soon as the heavy pressure disappeared it was like a weight was lifted off from her. She slowly looked at Cedric, whose face was pale and lacking any colour.

"What do you mean by letting my wife go?" He snapped at Zoltana causing her to flinch backwards. His face slowly twists in anger. He was mad at the thought, he could not bear it despite him knowing that being apart would be best for them.

Although they could not get a divorce, he could send her outside the capital away from him while he still held the support of her family, yet the thought was so unpleasant to him that he dared not think about it.

"I am sorry, Your Highness, but no matter how hard I try to look forward, I can’t see past a particular point. I don’t know why, but death surrounds the princess, and I feel the only way to avoid it is by leaving the capital. Although I am not certain that might work either. The princess is cursed to have a short tragic life.." Zoltana continued rambling on. To Cedric, it was all rubbish.

"Then be it." He scoffed leaving Zoltana confused. "If being by my side is a curse, she has to bear with it. Never mentioned such nonsense around me ever again. Do you think Abrielle will be safe away from me?"

Zoltana didn’t understand Cedric’s point of view but he knew what he meant. The moment certain people find out his wife is away from him, they do everything to kill her just to get rid of the support she brings to him. The safest place for her the moment she said I Do was by his side..

The only one who could hurt her was him. Cedric knew this fact but had no idea he was indeed the biggest threat to Abrielle’s survival. "I am sorry if I have offended you in any way." She begged like her life depended on it.

"You are dismissed." His voice boomed, Zoltana didn’t waste a second more then scampered out towards the door like her life depended on it. Her feet were wobbling, and it felt like any moment from now, she might fall on her face.

Her hands reached out for the door handle about to open it. Her heartbeat was all over the place, and her mind kept on telling her to run. Why did she say that to Cedric she wondered? It was something that she had to talk about despite the pressure he was eluding.

She felt maybe if she had spoken the vision would stop haunting her. "Stop," she heard him say directly behind her. Her head snapped backwards, shocked to see Cedric a few steps away from her.

She had clearly not heard him approaching her. Zoltana did her best not to fall on their knees, using the door as her support. "Yes, your Highness." She could barely say as she continued sweating profusely.

"Don’t mention a word of this to Abrielle, that is if you love your head," Cedric warned her. "Yes, Your Highness," she shook her head vehemently, listening to him. Only if they knew Abrielle was aware of the fact that death was her only end with Cedric.

"Can I leave?" She asked, her lungs could barely breathe. "You can, just make sure nothing happens to Abrielle during the unsealing." Hearing his final verdict, she quickly left the room, closing the door behind her.

Zoltana didn’t even stop running after leaving the study as her feet continued moving.

Cedric stood at the door listening to Zoltana’s terrified footsteps as she ran away. He hated the thought of anything that came from Zoltana’s mouth. He didn’t understand why, but he would rather live in hell with her than in heaven without her. It was the painful bliss of this marriage.

Cedric finally decided to return to his duties at the palace. Last night during Dinner there was something off about the way Cedric was behaving. He was too quiet and oddly colder than normal.

"I might not return home tomorrow," that was the last statement he said after being quiet the entire night. She didn’t see or hear from him again up till now. By the time she was up in the morning, he had already left after an emergency call.

"Your Highness, Princess Abrielle.." Abrielle snapped out of her thoughts as her attention was drawn to Lucas who was by her side as they were going through this month’s budget.

"Why am I even thinking about him?" She muttered, it was none of her business what was going through his head but yet he lurked in her mind. "Pardon, what did you say?" Lucas asked her, confused about what the princess was talking about. The entire day she has been spacing out.

"It’s nothing important, why were you calling me?" Abrielle shrugged off as she tried to focus on the task in front of her.

"Okay, I was wondering if you could explain this tabular method you used to sort the records. It is quite efficient and I have never seen something of this nature before." Lucas chimed; yesterday, when he was going through the papers, he was genuinely intrigued by the method and wanted to know more.

Unlike the method he used, this one went straight to the point and was easier to record bunky information. Abrielle’s eyes sparkled seeing how impressed Lucas was. The method she used was a method she devised as a student. "It’s quite easy to understand actually," Abrielle stated and started explaining the details.

It helped her get a particular person from her mind and Lucas was truly amazed by it. This improved his impression of Abrielle. "We will go through the details of the funding later, but so far, you have been doing great, and this method is truly amazing," Lucas said as he looked at Abrielle in a new light.

"I look forward to that," Abrielle answered. Lucas nodded at her then stood up from the desk to move to one of the shelves to get the documents he wanted to show Abrielle next.

Her eyes trailed from Lucas to the window as her thoughts were slowly plagued by Cedric again. Tonight might be the unsealing since Cedric is out that makes her more nervous.
