Chapter 112: She is his wife and not Callista

The door was pushed open, and Cedric followed after the physician and stepped into the room. His eyes immediately fell on Abrielle, who seemed to be peacefully sleeping on the bed.

Her body suddenly went weak, and she went unconscious, the Physician explained. "Will there be an issue moving her from this room?" Cedric asked, walking up to the bed, her body was always frozen in time on closer look. He leaned over the place of his finger under her nose to sense her faint breath.

It was extremely weak, "there isn’t an issue but she has to be here. Like her health isn’t the best." The physician explained, but the last thing Cedric was going to do was to let his wife stay under the roof of the same woman that got involved with the shadow claw guide to unleash a calamity class monster that could have wiped the entry Danbury off the surface of the map.

After that failed, she sent assassins after Abrielle’s life; it was by luck that Abrielle left the room. Just thinking about that filled him with fury.

His eyes studied her condition, her face was a bit pale but still had a healthy glow. Due to her condition, she was already changed into something comfortable. As she lay flat on the bed facing up her ginger hair scattered over the sheets. She was still beautiful, it was ridiculous, he thought.

"Send my regards to the queen, I am grateful Abrielle didn’t die under her care." Cedric sneered, hiding his message behind it, which the physician understood, but he could not let Cedric leave. He had to observe Abrielle’s condition.

"You can’t leave like this; her life is at risk." The physician argued but it fell on deaf ears. Cedric bent over to carefully carry Abrielle from the bed, holding her like she was something fragile, which wasn’t a lie because he could easily crush her if he felt like it.

"Your Highness, please understand." The physician pleaded, Cedric only gave him a single look that shook him to the core. The physician stepped aside as he stared at Cedric with a puzzled look. He has heard rumours calling him a monster because a regular human can’t have such thick killing intent.

"Tell the queen we are grateful for her invitation but Abrielle won’t be accepting further invitations until further notice." He stated with a stoic face before walking past the doctor. Outside the room, Elias was standing waiting at the door to protect Abrielle. The palace was a den filled with his enemies.

He didn’t want to think of the possibility of her getting assassinated while being treated far away from him. "What happened?" He simply said with a calm tone that still terrified Elias.

Elias swallowed nervously, he understood one thing about his master. His wife was the only other person he cared about whether she lived or not. At first, he thought it was because of the support he would get from the Nightshade family, which he needed for his fight for the throne, which is a matter of life or death, but it was something else.

Something Elias didn’t understand; he might have said his master had a soft spot out of pure amusement of his wife, but it didn’t seem that way. Yet the view he saw earlier that made Abrielle’s face go pale for a moment, even though she pretended not to care, confused him.

Cedric was acting tenderly with Callista in a way that he had barely acted with Abrielle. They were always at odds with each other. This was the most fucked up relationship he had seen.

"After we left the tea party she was in high spirits until suddenly she stopped walking and collapsed. The physician mentioned something about her magic being drained, but I warned him not to mention a word of it to anyone. I think he understood the message." Elias explained, making Cedric frown; Abrielle didn’t have a magic affinity, so why was she being drained?

"Magic affinity," he muttered. Wasn’t she a talentless daughter of the nightshade family? Cedric didn’t say anything more and made his way through the long hallway to leave the palace.

"Cedric," he heard a familiar voice call out. His gaze settled on a silver hair, and his gaze subconsciously dulled, although this skipped Callista’s attention. She ran to Cedric’s side, "how is she doing?" She asked about touching Abrielle’s face.

"Don’t touch her," Cedric’s sharp tone made her freeze. "Please step back." Cedric coldly said, leaving Callista stunned and unable to understand what she did wrong. She froze in place watching Cedric’s back as he left. It was like he was a completely different person.

Cedric soon left the palace and stepped into one of his carriages waiting for him. Since she was wearing light clothes, he had to remove his jacket, which he draped around her. The carriage started moving in at a stable pace. He tried to keep his thoughts straight, but the voices came again.

It was criticizing him; was he losing his mind at this point? It criticized him for how cold he acted to Callista because of Abrielle which was absurd.

Cedric understood despite her fake smiles and apology, Abrielle hated Callista even more than she probably hated him, but she hid it.

Honestly, at times, he was confused as to why she hated Callista because Callista, so far, was the sweetest thing ever, as everyone described, yet a part of him didn’t want the perfect priestess close to his wife. The fact was simple and logical: Abrielle was his wife and not Callista. She should be his priority.

The carriage soon arrived at his castle, and he was welcomed at the entrance by Evelyn and Zoltana, who quickly brought blankets to wrap up Abrielle.

"Her room is already arranged with the fire on and I have contacted a physician," Evelyn informed Cedric as he made his way to Abrielle’s room. He had his doubts: if the royal physician could not help, what use would a random one be, but he didn’t turn her down, nor did he say a word.

The doors were pulled open, and he carried her into the warm room walking towards the bed, where he tucked her in. He reached out to touch her face, and the voices came screaming again. It even accused Abrielle of faking it to gain his attention, which was absurd because it was the last thing the Abrielle he knew wanted.

He ignored it to tuck her hair behind her ear. "You are one troublesome fox." He muttered rubbing his thumb on her cheeks.

"Please open your eyes soon."
