The Veil of Darkness
Chapter 98: The Dark Lords of The Midnight Realm

Chapter 98: The Dark Lords of The Midnight Realm

When Annalise woke up the next time, she was still in the same bed and inside the same huge royal bed-chamber that was filled with darkness except for the few lanterns that were providing dim lighting.

She turned around and found the other side of the bed empty. She was all alone in the room as it seemed like Damien had left at some point when she was sleeping. As for the other two lords, she hadn’t seen them ever since she lost her consciousness in the Enchanted Forest.

Stretching her limbs to get them working, she wrapped the soft black blanket around her body to cover her nakedness before she finally dared to climb down the bed.

She badly needed a bath after spending the night with Damien. Her body and hair were a mess. Her cheeks burned just by thinking about the memories of what she and the Second Dark Lord did under the sheets.

Her bare feet touched the cold tiles as she walked toward the other side of the chamber. She noticed the obsidian rocks that were fitted in the walls and after seeing them again and again so many times, she now finally understood why they were present almost everywhere she had been in this new place - obsidian represented the shadow energy.

And since it was Damien’s living quarters and he was the heir of shadow powers, there was obviously the presence of obsidian all over the place.

She felt the shadow power running all around the room but instead of getting terrified of it, she actually felt calm and comforted by its presence. Her powers were ready to come out and play with the darkness that was nothing like the dark energy that attacked her the previous night.

Heir of Shadow...

Annalise recalled this particular title from the vows she and Damien took during their wedding ceremony and since her mind was finally able to think about things other than what her body and soul wanted from Damien, the realization finally dawned over her.

She was undoubtedly in the Midnight Realm, she no longer needed someone to tell this in person to her. Every cell of her body could feel the presence of darkness around her and her light powers confirmed that she was in a place far far away from her elements.

She found herself wondering about her husbands’ identity once again but this time way more than ever before. They were not only mysterious but their identities weren’t normal either, not only because she knew that they were from the Midnight Realm but also because she had realized that they had connections with the Royal family of the realm.

Their immense powers finally made sense to her, as well as their odd power elements. And at the same time, the mystery of their ages also started making sense. She could roughly guess that her husbands were dark faes and it meant they had a life span of over eight thousand years or so.

But while she finally got answers to some of her questions related to them, new questions had already popped up too. Their relation with the Midnight Realm provided some really deep information about them but it also created more mysteries and questions about them.

She looked around the room thoroughly, feeling Damien’s presence in almost every object and corner of the place. Her stomach suddenly roared loudly, pulling her attention to her empty stomach that was craving food badly after all the hours that she had spent without eating or drinking anything.

However, she just couldn’t step out of the bed-chamber as she was only wrapped up in a blanket. She looked around the room, searching for her nightgown that was supposed to be lying somewhere on the floor near the bed. Even though a nightgown was still not enough coverage for her to walk out of the quarters, it was still better than the blanket she had wrapped around her t the moment.

She hurriedly looked all around the bed but there was no trace of any of her clothes, neither did she find them anywhere else in the room.

"What now?" She asked out loud to no one in particular but she really wanted someone to hear her and answer.

’You seem disturbed.’ The familiar voice filtered her mind as the mind link between her and Damien opened as her soulmate felt her disturbance.

’I... Where are you? I’m alone here... without any clothes and food...’ She sent the message, once again trying to find her way around the mind link and praying to the stars for it to work so that Damien could hear her.

’Don’t worry, we will meet soon.’ Came Damien’s reply before the link closed down and she was left all alone once again. She wanted to tell the man that it wasn’t about him returning but for her to get access to food and clothes. Sadly, she had no idea how to open the link on herself and give him the message.

She made her way back to the bed and settled on its edge while running her fingers through her platinum blue strands that were tangled up so badly. She suddenly started missing Sera.

Barely a few minutes passed before the double doors of the chamber opened and a cool breeze greeted Annalise, making her shudder as she tried to hide herself beneath the blanket.

She watched as around a dozen or so maidservants entered the room with their hands filled with various items. They all greeted her first with deep bows before they placed everything on the huge wooden table that was sitting a few feet away from the bed.

A couple of maids moved to lit a couple of more lanterns around the room while someone closed the door.

"Your Highness, we are here to help you with the bath and getting dressed. The Lords will be here within an hour to accompany you for lunch." One of the maids notified Annalise as she stepped forward and bowed again in greetings.

Annalise didn’t miss how the woman addressed her husbands as ’the lords’ and seeing the way she didn’t even hesitate before using that title, it almost seemed like that was their actual title but she couldn’t bring herself to believe it that easily. Nothing about her husbands was that simple.

She let out a small sigh before she slowly nodded her head in understanding. The maids helped her out of the bed and offered her a pair of soft slippers before they led her to the farthest corner of the room.

One of the maids, the one who spoke to her and seemed like the head among them all, flicked her fingers around a particular spot in the wall and Annalise watched in fascination as the wall immediately disappeared, leaving a big passageway in its place.

"There’s a hot spring here in the magicked garden and the atmosphere here is filled with balanced energy of all the elements." The maid informed Annalise as they all made their way towards the said spring.

It wasn’t a big garden, to begin with, probably only half the size of the bed-chamber. Other than the spring, the rest of the area had a decent-sized tent set up that was probably for changing clothes or dressing up.

The servants took off the blanket and she was made to climb into the spring. The warm water immediately performed its magic as her sore and stiff muscles finally started to relax.

They washed her hair and massaged her head and temples. She even found them massaging her shoulders and back muscles, the feeling was so good and relaxing that she almost ended up falling asleep all over again. She almost spent nearly half an hour in the hot spring before the servants had to finally pull her out.

They wrapped her in a soft robe and made her return to the chamber which had a lot more light filling it now. They helped her in drying her hair and body before they started dressing her up and while it wasn’t her first time having so many servants serve her during bath and dressing up, she still felt a little bit weird, probably because these weren’t the servants whom she was familiar with.

The dress that she wore was dark blue in color that set beautifully against her milky skin. It had a beautiful design of silver across the left shoulder and around the waist belt. Her feet were comfortably packed inside warm leather shoes and her body was moisturized.

Her hair was styled beautifully with silver hairpins decorating them and the maids didn’t hold back while doing her makeup, the good thing was that they didn’t go too overboard either.

By the time they finished rolling her up, it was already time for her husbands to return to her too. The servants took their leave once they were satisfied with their work and she was once again left alone.

And then... they were finally entering the bed-chamber when the double doors opened again after a couple of minutes... her husbands.
