The Veil of Darkness -
Chapter 97: One Month
Chapter 97: One Month
Damien hesitated for a while, contemplating what to tell her and how. He couldn’t just tell her that he heard her father and the king discussing about their grand plan that included her and her husbands.
But one look into her ocean-blue eyes and he had already made his mind. "Fine, let me show you then. Consider it payback for what I just did."
He didn’t give her enough time to react or say anything in response before he was already beside her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her tightly into his embrace as he crashed his mouth over hers.
Allowing her to take a peek into his memories didn’t really need him to kiss her, it could be done as simply as by just holding hands. However, he still chose to use the kiss as the bridge and it was not for her.
Instead, it was something that he needed badly for himself - to feel her emotions again so that he could assure himself that she was still his, that she didn’t despise him for trespassing into her memories.
The kiss did the magic as he was expecting. It made Annalise’s guard falter as she was taken by complete surprise, allowing him to feel her emotions. He realized just how hurt she was because of him taking advantage of her but at least, he didn’t find any sort of negative energy from her towards himself.
He ended the kiss only to pull the woman into a tight hug. "I’m so sorry, Princess. I’m really sorry. Please don’t shut yourself and forbid me from feeling your emotions. If you want, I can swear to never peek into your memories ever again without your permission."
Annalise remained still in his arms for a while before she finally moved but instead of returning the hug, she just pushed him away once again. "At least, you are aware that you were wrong for using our bond like this. But apologies don’t always make the wrong things right. I just can’t forget that you took advantage of me right after pledging a sacred bond with me in our wedding vows."
Her voice was filled with emotions as she stared at him with her ocean-blue eyes brimming with hurt. That look in her eyes was making his heart clench in pain as he realized just how hurt she was because of his actions.
It wasn’t all about him using the bond to peek into her memories, instead, it was because of all the hurt and pain he had caused her in the past week or so. Even though they were now bonded through the sacred soulmate bond, it only diminished her anger towards him to a certain point, it didn’t take away the pain she was experiencing because of him.
Damien once again found himself contemplating whether he should tell her about what he heard during his unannounced visit to the Royal Palace, he was afraid of only ending up increasing her pain which won’t turn out to be good for their newly formed bond.
Besides, what he had was just a small piece of conversation between the Grand Duke and the King, there was nothing that could confirm that the two of them were actually planning something shady behind closed doors. If he wanted her to believe him, he needed more solid evidence.
A sudden realization dawned over him which almost made him chuckle at his stupidity. He was now able to understand that just a few words between the Grand Duke and the King couldn’t confirm that the two of them were actually planning something bad, but he was fool enough to believe that she was involved in their shady plan just based on those same few words. Just when did he become so dumb?
"Alright, I’m fully prepared to acknowledge my mistakes. I’ll accept whatever punishment you will give to me as long as it’s not related to harming our bond." He promised to her as he took hold of her hands and thankfully, she didn’t push him away again this time.
Annalise remained silent for a while as she seemed to be thinking about his offer. "If you are thinking that I’ll be soft-hearted towards you, then you are so wrong, My Lord. You need to learn by experience just how it feels to be at the receiving end and ill make sure that you will feel it really good."
Damien just nodded his head in acceptance. He really didnt care what sort of punishment he would need to go through to win her warmth, he was determined to do it at any cost. He just wished that she wouldn’t keep him away from her as they needed to be together a lot for the coming period so that their bond could become stronger.
"So, are you going to tell me why you misunderstood me in the first place?" She asked while changing the topic and bringing his attention back to her question that remained unanswered so far even when he said that he would answer it.
Damien took a deep breath before he spoke, "I was going to but..."
"But?" She pressed as she waited patiently for him to finish his sentence.
"... But I’m not sure if it’s the best decision. This matter involves some really important people and I don’t want you to hate me because you won’t believe what I’ll show to you since it lacks proper evidence." He looked at her with seriousness filling his eyes and voice.
"I want you to give me some time to look deeper into this matter. This entire time, my whole attention was to prove you guilty and I didnt pay any attention to those who were actually involved in the matter. But I won’t keep making this mistake. Just give me at least a month, and I promise that I’ll give you a proper answer."
Annalise watched him in silence, pondering on his words as she tried to not let her curiosity get the better out of her. "Alright, one month. I’m giving you one month to explain this matter to me with proper evidence."
