Chapter 67: External Magical Energy

Annalise watched with her jaw hanging open as small portions of all the spiritual herbs that she still hadn’t collected, flew up into the mid-air and then disappeared inside the pouches which too disappeared once all the herbs were collected.

Kenric clapped his hands in satisfaction as he ended the spell and proudly looked around the fields to make sure that he had all the herbs in his collection. Then he finally took out a small flask from somewhere and spoke while turning to look at her.

"You were asking about the spirit water. Yeah, we will need that..." The rest of the words failed to come out of his throat when his eyes finally landed on her and noticed the expression on her face.

"You...!" Annalise almost felt like bursting. The man really played her well and still had the cheek to act so innocently like he had no idea about what he did wrong.

"Are you mad because I didn’t use the spell in the beginning?" He finally asked after a few long moments but don’t dare to come closer to her, which was definitely a good idea.

Instead of answering, Annalise just wrapped her arms over her chest and halted at the man. She could hardly believe that he made her collect so many herbs with her hands when he could have done the same with a single spell in less than a minute.

"I know that you must be feeling betrayed but I only did so because I wanted to help you."

Annalise squinted her eyes as she waited for him to explain further about what sort of help he was providing her with that act.

Kenric finally mustered the courage to walk closer to her and when he noticed that there was no change in her expression, he finally hopped in front of her and immediately took both of her hands in his own. "All these magical herbs are filled with magical energy, and touching them for so long has given you some extra energy. Try to feel it."

Annalise looked down at her hands as if she could see what kind of extra energy she had gathered from the herbs just by looking at her hands. Taking in a deep breath, she closed her eyes and tried to feel anything different happening other body.

The first thing that she noticed was the newly formed link that was tying her to Valerius, there were still so many questions that she had to ask regarding the mate bond. She was still struggling to wrap her mind around all the new things that were happening to her.

She explored deeper in the search for the energy that was supposed to be lurking somewhere inside her and then, after searching for a while, she did find it, soft tangles of magic that were trying to seep deeper inside her.

"What am I supposed to do with it?" She asked as she hurriedly opened her eyes and started at Kenric in half panic and half confusion. It was an energy that didn’t belong to her. What was she supposed to do with this unfamiliar energy?

"The amount isn’t too much for you to handle at your current stage. Just let it mingle with your original energy essence and over the period of the next few days, it will mix completely with your original energy and become a part of your own magical powers. You will be able to learn and perform more spells in the future." Kenric explained and after listening to his words, Annalise did recall something that she once learned about external magical energy consumption.

"Is that how it’s going to work?" She asked as she tried to feel the amount of the energy and noticed that was indeed a small amount that didn’t seem hard to control at all.

"Right. You are currently too weak both magically and physically. Considering the world we are living in, you will need to work on both these aspects to become powerful. Consuming a little amount of energy once in a while to increase your internal energy will prove beneficial." Kenric explained further.

"You want me to become powerful?" Annalise asked as she tried to imagine herself casting spells left and right and the thought made her both cringe and chuckle. It was a really funny imagination.

"You don’t want that?" Kenric asked in return. His eyes looked at her as he searched her face to see through her expression.

"I’m not sure. I like the way I am now. Though I have always wanted to be strong enough to make my parents feel proud, I have never thought about becoming powerful." Annalise explained as she took the flask from Kenric’s hand and walked towards the spirit pond.

She bent down at the edge of the pond and dipped it into the pond to collect the spirit water. The liquid shimmered in various shades of sparkly neons and it looked nothing like water. She handed the flask back to Kenric as she returned by his side.

Kenric took hold of one of her hands as he brushed his thumb against her the back of her hand as he spoke, "To be honest, none of us want you to do anything against your will, Little Bird. However, this is an exception. At first, we were confident that we can keep you safe as there are three of us. But seeing the incidents over the last few weeks, we have finally come to realize that we can’t be always beside you to stop such incidents from happening. Instead of worrying about you all the time, it’s better for you to be prepared for such incidents. We don’t want anything to happen to you."

The look in his eyes had Annalise’s heart warming up immediately. Every time and every moment they were just worried about her and her safety.

"Alright, I’ll listen to you and the other Lords. I can’t promise how well I’ll be able to perform but I’ll try my best." Annalise promised.
