Chapter 58: Learning A Magic Trick
Chapter 58: Learning A Magic Trick
Annalise stared at the moon from the window of her room, lost in thoughts as she recalled her conversation with Pristine.
At this point, she was really curious to know more about the history of the castle and the one who built it.
From what she had learned about the history of their Empire, it was the Great King Gawain who was crowned as the very first ruler of the empire and it was around the time when the pure Seelie bloods were rumored to have disappeared.
If anyone would pay a little bit more attention to these details, they would definitely see the loopholes present in the history written in those books and scrolls.
Stepping away from the window, she picked up a candlestick with a burning candle sitting on it before she walked out of her room and headed upstairs. Her destination was that one place that could probably provide her with some answers to the questions that were swirling in her mind like a typhoon.
She made her way inside the quiet and dark library and the first thing that she did was to light up a couple of candles around the place to fill it with some much-needed light.
Now, finding books in such a huge library was already not an easy job but she was doing it in the middle of the night with just a candle in her hand, it would surely be a miracle if she succeeded in finding the right book.
She skipped the sections that she had already explored during her previous visits, knowing fully well that she won’t find any informative book there regarding the history of the Seelie Realm.
But as she made her way between the long rows of shelves and looked at the books and scrolls sitting in them, she realized that she won’t succeed at this rate. A sigh escaped her lips as she stopped in her tracks and closed her eyes to take a break for a moment. The silence of the night greeted her as her mind went blank for a moment.
"Can’t find a good book?"
The familiar voice had her turning around and she found herself looking at Valerius who was standing a few feet away from her. His long silver hair was left loose down his shoulders and he was wearing long white robes that hung around his slender frame.
She greeted him while bending her knees slightly and bowing her head, receiving a nod of courtesy from him in return. A smile bloomed on her lips as she realized that he could help her in both finding the books and in telling her more about the history of the castle and probably their empire too.
However, just as she was about to speak, Valerius shifted his hand and moved his palm to face the candle in her hand which suddenly got snatched from her and turned into a moonstone as it hovered over their head, illuminating the entire library in bright light.
She first stared at the moonstone in surprise before she turned to look at her husband. "What spell did you use for that? I never knew that moonstones can be created from other stuff."
Valerius gave her a warm smile as he spoke, "As long as it’s something related to light, that item can be transformed into a moonstone with a little bit of magic."
Annalise stared at the moonstone in awe. In the past half month, she had seen her husbands using their powers in some very unique ways. There was the time when they used teleportation, then she also noticed them controlling elements like fire, water, and air, and now, the transformation magic.
She had never seen anyone else using such magic tricks before, clearly because all these tricks needed a lot of power and the people of their empire didn’t hold that much power in their blood.
"You want me to teach you?" Valerius asked suddenly, pulling her attention back to him.
"Will you?" The idea of learning such a useful trick grasped her attention immediately.
Valerius closed the distance between them and came to stand right in front of her. "Though these magicked moonstones aren’t the real moonstones, they can still guide you in the darkness."
One of his hands moved to rest on her waist while the other took hold of one of her hands. He made their palms connect before raising them to their eye level.
"I’ll use the spell and I want you to focus on the essence of my powers. Try to see through the spell and the way magic works." He guided her with both words and actions.
Annalise watched him close his eyes and a soft breeze crossed them. She felt the energy changing around them and the essence of his power shifted between their palms. It still reminded her of ice because it was just that cold.
His power tugged hers, making something shift inside her, and she once again felt the familiar string shifting inside her that seemed to be connected to him.
She felt the spell working, the tendrils of magic moving in the air. Her eyes moved to the hovering moonstone and she watched as the moonstone turned back into the candle.
The tendrils of magic changed their route and she felt the air shift around them as the candle transformed back into moonstone all over again.
Valerius repeated the spell, turning the moonstone back into the candle and vice-versa, allowing her to study the spell.
"So?" He asked as he finally opened his and looked at her.
"Let me try." She whispered back and watched him nodding his head in approval but he didn’t step away or let go of her hand. Instead, he took her hand to rest against his shoulder and placed his own above hers.
Annalise felt her heart fluttering at his actions but she tried to pay attention to the spell that she was about to cast.
Taking in a deep breath, she closed her eyes and focused her energy on the candle that she was supposed to transform.
