Chapter 44: They Are Powerful
Chapter 44: They Are Powerful
"How did I even do that?" Annalise asked for the dozenth time as she stared at the basket filled with the green apples that she magically grew on the age-old apple tree trunk.
She was now sitting on the grass-covered ground with Pristine still busy inspecting the tree to search for only stars knew what.
"This isn’t really bad, to be honest." The fairy finally spoke as she came to take a seat beside Annalise on the ground. "It means that you have the powers inside you, just need someone to guide you."
"What are you talking about?" Annalise asked as she picked up one of the apples and smelled it, immediately getting attacked by its sweet and alluring scent that enticed her to take a bite. But instead of doing that, she shoved the apple back into the basket.
"They are good, you can eat them," Pristine told her as she picked up one of the apples and took a huge bite, even closing her eyes as she enjoyed the sweetness of the juicy fruit.
"You are avoiding my question again." Annalise wasn’t going to let her get away a second time without answering her questions. There was only a certain limit for a girl to keep her curiosity in check.
"What I’m trying to say is simple - you are an elemental fae descendent and you have the source of elemental powers in you. That’s probably why you are being able to return this place to life. That apple tree was a test that I wanted you to perform so that I can see the potential of your powers. Though it didn’t turn out as expected, the result was still positive. You just need proper guidance to control your powers."
Annalise first stared at the fairy girl for a certain few moments before she turned her attention to her hands as if to see some sort of magical powers in them. Even though she was indeed an elemental fae descended, the most she could do with her powers were a few charms and spells that could come in handy in daily life.
Using powers to grow a tree or even save a dying tree - that seemed like something that only a halfling or a full-blood elemental fae could do. But then how did she grow those apples?
She felt her head buzzing with questions and there was no one to answer all of them. Looking at Pristine who was busy enjoying her apple, it was clear that the fairy would only tell her what she wanted to tell, nothing more and nothing less.
"So are you going to teach me how to use my... uh... powers?" She found herself asking after a few seconds of silence.
"Guiding you, I can do that but I’m not the best candidate when it comes to teaching. It’s better if you ask your husbands to do it. They will prove way much better teachers than I can ever be in my entire immortal life." Pristine responded with a little shake of her head as she took another bite of her apple.
"My husbands?" Annalise asked skeptically, her eyes eagerly waiting for the fairy’s reply.
"Right, your husbands. First, they are pretty powerful themselves, so they will know how to deal with your powers. Second, it’s three of them while I’m only one. Having three gorgeous and talented teachers is much better than having only one. Third and probably the most important one, they are your husbands, they are gonna place your safety as a priority at every point." Pristine answered as she spared a quick look in Annalise’s direction.
Annalise nodded her head in understanding as she did agree with all the points. "So..., have you known them for a long time?" She asked.
Pristine stayed silent as she finished her apple and disposed of its core, only then did she speak, "Your husbands? I have known them since they came to live here."
Annalise opened her mouth to speak but was immediately silenced as the fairy spoke again, "... But if you are eager to learn more about them, I’ll advise you to ask them directly. Because trust me, I also don’t know much about them, except that they are powerful... very powerful."
The fairy stood up and brushed the non-existing dirt off her dress as she turned to look at Annalise with her sparkling emerald eyes, "Let’s take a break for the day. I’ll see you again when I will feel bored. You too should head back inside as your husbands are back and looking for you."
Annalise didn’t get the chance to say or ask any further as her silhouette disappeared from the orchard right a second before Kenric walked out the back door and stepped inside the orchard.
"Here you are." The smile playing on his lips matched the warm look in his eyes as he helped her up and immediately pulled her into his arms, an action that was still so new for her.
"Where did you get these apples from?" He asked curiously as he picked up the basket filled with apples and looked through the fruits as if to search for a good one to eat.
"It’s a long story," Annalise responded as she picked up a good-sized apple from the basket and handed it to him.
"Really? No worries, I like lengthy stories, especially those which are related to you." The man shamelessly flirted as he gave her a cheeky smile. In response, Annalise just smiled as she shook her head.
"But before that, let’s go inside. The others are waiting for you. We have something important to discuss with you." Kenric added as he adjusted the basket in his hand while still holding the apple that she gave to him. And he used his other hand to wrap around her waist and pulled her towards the castle.
"What do you guys want to discuss?" Annalise asked cautiously.
Kenric stopped in his tracks and caused her to stop too as he answered with a small twitch playing on his lips. "It’s whether you want Damien and me to accompany you tonight, or Valerius and me."
