The Veil of Darkness -
Chapter 41: The Impossible Task
Chapter 41: The Impossible Task
Annalise felt her body shivering as tendrils of ice trickled all over her skin but instead of making her feel cold, it started an inferno to build inside her.
It was the similar sensations that Kenric and Damien had made her feel but yet at the same time, it was so different and unique in its own way.
She realized that all three of her husbands made her body feel things in their own separate ways, though the result was always the same.
A gasp escaped her lips as she felt him pressing his fingers into her skin in a possessive manner.
There was almost next to no space left between their bodies and as Valerius gave a last tug on her waist, she found herself perfectly pressed against his hard body.
"Annalise..." His voice was a soft brush of cool breeze against her burning cheeks as he pressed his lips to the corner of her mouth, causing her to feel the loss of his lips against her own.
She had no idea when she became like this - so needy and longing for her husbands’ touches and attention.
She could feel the need inside her, there was something inside her that was calling to his icy powers. A foreign yet so familiar feeling took over her as she felt his lips against her jaw.
It’s like his ice was meeting something chilly of her own. It wasn’t ice exactly but something so similar to it that it left Annalise confused.
Shivers slid up and down her spine, sending splashes of yearning to every nerve receptor that made her knees wobble.
She felt his other hand sliding inside the dark green-colored robe that she was wearing and came to rest against her spine, only a flimsy chemise separated his hand from touching her skin.
"You are so beautiful, wife," Valerius whispered as he placed another soft kiss against the corner of her lips before trailing them over her cheeks and under her ear. "So small, so graceful, so cheerful, yet so strong."
Strong?
No one had ever used that word to describe her before. No one. Even she wouldn’t dare to call herself strong.
"Yes, Annalise. You are strong. The way you took charge as the lady of this castle right after moving here, the way you faced those beasts in the dark forest, the way you struggled against the water curse today, and most importantly, how all these incidents have been unable to shake you at all, you have been strong through all these."
Annalise could hardly agree with his words. Did she ever act like the lady of the house? She was just going with the flow. As for those two horrifying incidents, she was too weak to fight for her life both the time. They were the ones who protected her both those times. Then how come he thought of her as someone strong?
Valerius pulled away his face to look into her eyes, both his hands moving to cup her face as he spoke, "Sadly, you see yourself in such a negative way. But trust me, Annalise, you are really strong. You just haven’t realized it yet."
He placed a kiss on her forehead before pulling away from her completely. She immediately felt the loss, not only physically but also deep in her soul.
These days, she had been realizing that whenever it was something related to her husbands, she felt something deep inside her calling to them, as if her soul was yearning for them which didn’t make any sense to her. How could someone’s soul call to someone else’s?
"Let’s return to our rooms. It’s pretty late and you will need sleep." She just nodded her head in agreement at his suggestion which almost sounded like a command to her.
Besides, she was also quite tired even though she just woke up barely an hour and a half ago. But who could judge her in her situation? Her days in the cursed castle were just going too smoothly that she had nothing else to do but rest.
Like the gentleman, he was, Valerius accompanied her all the way to her bedroom. But Annalise was busy thinking about the man who was asleep on her bed.
"Do you want me to wake him up?" Lord Valerius asked as he signaled toward her room, definitely talking about his brother.
"It’s alright, I think. We shouldn’t disturb his sleep." Annalise found herself responding as she shook her head slightly.
There it went - a perfect chance to get rid of the man from her bed and room. However, she just ended up giving up on it. Just why?
"As long as you are not uncomfortable. Just call me if you need me to take him away. Now you should rest Annalise." Valerius bid farewell with a slight now of his head and Annalise watched his silhouette disappearing from her sight into the darkness residing in the castle.
Letting out a small sigh, she entered her room and closed the door behind her before making her way to the bed while making sure not to make any sort of noise.
Usually, she liked to sleep just in her chemise but considering her current situation, she kept the outer robe of her nightgown on as she slipped under the blanket.
Though her bed was quite big, Kenric had taken over nearly more than half of it, leaving just a little space for Annalise.
As she tried to find a comfortable position without waking him up, Annalise felt like she was doing one of the most difficult tasks.
Somehow, she succeeded in finding a comfortable position and immediately let out a sigh of relief.
She was ready to fall asleep and get some rest because she had no idea what new adventures the coming day would be bringing for her.
However, the moment she closed her eyes and her thoughts returned to her late-night dinner with Valerius, a sudden realization hit her out of nowhere.
The Dark Lord had been reading her mind!
