The Veil of Darkness
Chapter 39: Iamalittlebithungry

Chapter 39: Iamalittlebithungry

"Now you should return to your sleep. Your husbands are becoming worried." The fairy spoke as she pulled Annalise’s attention back towards her.

"Worried?" Annalise asked in confusion. Why would the Dark Lords be worried about her? And as soon as the question entered her brain, she finally realized the first sentence that skipped her attention completely - returning to her sleep. "I... I am not in my physical..."

The fairy smiled as she noticed the confused and a little flustered look on Annalise’s face. "Your physical body is still inside your bedroom, while your consciousness is here and because it has been so long, your husbands have started realizing that something is wrong."

"Oh." Annalise wasn’t sure how to respond to this new knowledge. The thought of her conscious self wandering out of her physical body both excited and scared her for various reasons. "Will we meet again?" She asked the fairy.

"Of course, we both live here. Our meetings in the future are inevitable."

Annalise wasn’t really that great when it came to judging someone’s personality based on just one short encounter. But even then, she could feel a sense of honesty from the fairy that made her trust the girl’s words... for the time being.

The moon and stars disappeared from the sky, and the silence of the night was shaken by the sound of strong wind. The atmosphere became chilled and gloomy. As her surroundings started to change, Annalise hurriedly asked the last question from the disappearing silhouette of the fairy, "What’s your name?"

"Pristine."

When Annalise’s eyes flew open, darkness was the first thing that greeted her. But as her senses started to function and feel the things around her, she realized that she was in her bed with someone sleeping beside her.

She heard the strong wind blowing outside the castle and it seemed like it was also raining though not heavily. However, the surprising thing that she noticed was the lack of cold air entering the room through the open window. It seemed like something was blocking the wind from entering, probably some sort of spell.

Her thoughts were disturbed when the room suddenly lit up in a soft glow from a couple of candles sitting on the cabinet a little bit away from the bed.

Her eyes landed on the man who came closer to the bed and took a seat beside her on the edge of the bed. "You are finally awake." His voice was just as calm and soft as it always used to be. His ice-blue eyes looked at her with tenderness.

Annalise tried to sit up but the muscular hand wrapped around her abdomen kept her pinned to the bed. Letting out a small sigh as a sign of giving up, she just looked at Lord Valerius and nodded her head slightly. She didn’t miss the way he was looking at her amusingly.

"Where’s Lord Damien?" She found herself asking as her eyes roamed around her bedroom but she didn’t find him. She could now recall that he was the one who pulled her out of the pool.

Lord Valerius nodded in the direction of the window before he spoke, "You can see just how bad his mood was. We have to send him downstairs because we were worried he would end up destroying your beautiful bed-chamber."

"Why was he so angry?" She asked as she looked at her gorgeous husband. Even the darkness of the night failed to hide just how beautiful he was.

"Because he’s worried about you," Valerius answered simply as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

She felt tingles of sparks running down the path that his fingers trailed down her temple and ear. "My Lord, have you all been..."

"Valerius."

"Huh?" Annalise stared at her husband in confusion as he cut her off between her sentence.

"We all will appreciate it if you can call us by our names instead of using the formal terms, just like you call Kenric by his name," Valerius stated as he looked straight into her eyes, causing her heartbeats to accelerate a little bit.

"I... I’ll try my best." She muttered as she felt the man beside her stirring in his sleep. His hand squeezed her closer to his body before he buried his face in the crook of her neck and returned to sleep.

"I’ll let you rest now. Call me if you want something. Okay?" He lightly patted her head before moving to stand up but Annalise stopped him as she took hold of his arm with both of her hands.

"What is it?" Valerius asked as he once again settled down on the bed and placed his other palm on one of her hands that were still clutching his arm tightly.

Annalise hesitated as she nibbled on her lower lip, the words refused to leave her mouth and she suddenly started feeling embarrassed about what she initially wanted to request from him.

She was pulled out of her thoughts when she felt his thumb against her lower lip as he pulled it out from the torture of her teeth. "What is it, Annalise." Her name rolled out of his mouth as smoothly as butter and it sent butterflies fluttering inside her stomach.

His piercing eyes were looking into hers while his thumb was still lightly grazing her lower lip which he seemed to be doing unconsciously. And while his aura was cold in nature, she only felt warmth surrounding her like a cocoon.

"I... Iamalittlebithungry."

The jumble of letters was out of her mouth and while she herself failed to make any sense out of it, a smile broke out on Valerius’ lips.

"Do you want me to cook something for you?" He asked.

"Not really. I can manage it but... I don’t want to be left alone." She confessed as she looked at him and waited for his response. "The castle is so huge and so dark, let alone devoid of any human presence at this time of the night." She added in her defense.

"Alright. I’ll accompany you, but can you also cook something for me?"
