Chapter 374: The Mystery of Ancient Wards

Annalise fumbled through all the ingredients that Pristine had cleanly arranged on the wooden table as she looked for the right one to add in the pot.

"What exactly are you making?" Kenric asked curiously as he watched her crush some crystals before adding the powdered form into the pot.

"A potion." Annalise answered as she flipped through the pages of the spell book to find a particular segment that held information regarding a rare herb that she was going to add next into the potion.

Damien chuckled as he gave Kenric a mocking smirk.

"What kind of potion?" Kenric tried again and gave Annalise his best smile when she looked up at him.

"One that will help us keep our people safe to the best of our ability." She provided a little bit of more information before returning her attention toward work at hand.

The Princes shared a look before Valerius stood up from where he was sitting next to the window, and walked toward the other side of the room where Annalise was working on the potion. "You said that you will need our help. Is it for this potion?"

Annalise nodded her head in affirmative as she added a few drops of some kind of dark blue liquid and set the little glass bottle aside. Then she finally looked up at her husbands and answered - "What I’m making is a powerful potion that can create powerful wards... like actual powerful wards."

The Princes once again shared a look between them before they all turned their attention toward their wife and it was Damien who spoke first this time - "Powerful as?"

Before Annalise could have spoken, another voice filled the silent room and answered the Shadow Prince’s question - "Powerful as the wards protecting the Seelie Realm and the Midnight Realm."

All four pair of eyes turned to look at the person who just entered the room despite the powerful ward that was cast to keep out intruders.

"That’s... impossible... right?" Kenric was having a hard time believing what he just heard. His gaze shifted between his wife and Esmeray before moving toward Valerius who remained silent as he looked just as unconvinced as Kenric himself was.

"It’s not." Esmeray answered when no one spoke for a while and walked toward Annalise who had continued to work on the potion.

"We have been looking through all sorts of historical records to find the mystery behind the ancient wards of the Seelie and Midnight Realm for centuies, and till this date we haven’t found a single word related to those wards. There is no record of those wards, no mention in any kind of book throughout the realms. Our mother has been trying to find the same for the past ten thousand years but even she hasn’t found anything because no such information is available."

Valerius’ eyes were focused on Annalise as he waited for her to provide the Princes with an explanation. It wasn’t like he was doubting her ability, he was just curious that if such a thing was possible, then how.

"You never found any mention or record of the source or foundation of these wards in the history because there is none." Annalise informed and watched as her husbands only became more puzzled.

"Then how did you - "

Instead of answering with words, Annalise conjured the personal diary of the late Light Fae Queen that she previously handed over to Esmeray. "From here. This diary contains probably the only record or mention of the origin of the wards of the Seelie and Midnight Realms."

Realization dawned over the Dark Lords and it was Damien who asked the next question - "So, what does it say about the wards? How were they created?" This time, the Princes looked curious instead of puzzled and confused.

"What’s the most powerful thing in our world?" Annalise asked as she handed the diary back to Esmeray since she summoned it from wherever he had been keepsafing it. Thankfully, the man didn’t appear mad with her.

"Our elements." Kenric answered without missing a single beat.

A smile formed on Annalise’s lips as she nodded her head in affirmative and spoke - "That’s right. Our elements are the most powerful things in our world and those wards are made of nothing else but the power of all seven elements put together in their purest form."

"Just that?" Kenric was definitely confused as so were his brothers. "Then why no one found out about it? And why no one succeeded in creating more wards like them?"

"Because the mystery doesn’t lie in what the wards are made of, but what had been keeping them from breaking despite the strong efforts that had been made throughout millennials." Esmeray responded before he summoned Ascher and handed over a chalk to him so that the latter could draw a magical hologram.

"The wards are covered in a hundred different layers of magical spells and potions, and all these spells and potions belongs to the dark side of the magic. Back in the days, it was the late Light Fae Queen and your Great Grandmother who set up those two wards with the help of the Dark Witches."

"The ward of the Seelie Realm failed to protect its land because the enemies didn’t come from the outside but were hiding within the realm all along. When the Late Light Queen sealed the Seelie Realm, she used a reverse spell to keep the dark energy from escaping the place and locked the Realm forever with the wards."

The room was filled with silence after Annalise finished speaking. The Princes took in the information that had been always unknown to anyone in their world expect for those who were involved in the original process of the setting up the wards of the Seelie and Midnihht Realm. The part of the involvement of the Drak Witches was sure the most surprising one but not unacceptable. From the very beginning of time, light and dark had coexisted together with mutual respect and understanding. While most of there world believed and followed the light magic, they still didn’t despise the ones using dark magic. Of course, their enemies who were about to launch a war on their world were a different story.

"So... you are going to create a new ward?" Kenric asked once he had digested all the information.

Annalise nodded her head in positive and received another question from her husbands, this time from Damien - "Where are you going to place the ward?"

She knew what her husbands were thinking at the moment as she too did thought of the same thing before giving up on it. "If we can indeed recreate such a powerful ward, it will be a hundred times stronger than the current wards of the Seelie and Midnight Realms’ wards that have became weaker after such a long time and constant sufferings under the onslaught of the dark energy."

She stopped for a moment as her eyes scanned the faces of her husbands who looked really hopeful. Taking in a deep breath, she continued - "However... if we succeed and protected our lands from our enemies using the new wards, will it really change too much?"

Her gaze locked with Damien’s and she felt her husband coming to the same outcome she did while she pondered on the possibility of ending the war with the new wards.

"Even if we stopped the war from happening today, will we really win? It would not be considered winning, but fleeing, right? Whether today or another ten thousand years later, we will need to face them and eventually fight a battle. Besides, this war is not only about saving our lands but also freeing the land of the Seelies that they lost unjustly. I know this can’t be my sole decision, but personally, I want to fight this battle and end it for once and for all."

Her gaze shifted toward Valerius and then Kenric and she felt through their mate bonds that none of her husbands had any sort of objection against her decision.

"We will fight this war. Everyone fighting it is ready for it. Let’s secure the safety of common people and prepare for the battle."

Valerius’ words brought a warmth in Annalise and she gave a nod in response. The five of them together controlled the purest essence of all seven elemental magic and it took around an hour before both the wards and two small vials of potions were ready.
