Chapter 274: Great At Acting

The strong wind blew across the witch city, creating sounds that were distracting Annalise from the book of spells that she was reading.

The last thing she was expecting was for the Witch Leader to hand her a book of spells personally and that too a book filled with light spells. Who would have thought that a dark witch would have a book of powerful light spells in her possession?

Well, it was a present that Annalise was really enjoying. After surfing through the entire library back at home and reading all the possible spell books she had found, she was looking forward to getting hold of another spell record or something to continue with her training. The more she was training with spells and physical training, the better and stronger she was becoming.

The sound of knocking on her bedroom door pulled her attention completely away from the book and toward the man who was waiting at the entrance of her widely open door for her permission to enter.

"Come in."

Her voice was barely audible because of the sound of strong wind but the man entered immediately since he heard her loud and clear because of his enhanced hearing.

"I was wondering if what you said outside, a couple of hours ago, was only for my brothers or was also for me?" Valerius asked as he closed the door and started walking toward her.

"Are you trying to play smart to go against my words?" Annalise asked while arching her eyebrows in question. She watched in surprise as Valerius immediately stopped in his tracks as soon as the question, or more like an allegation, was out of her mouth.

"If you want I can leave..."

"Don’t!"

She didn’t even let him finish speaking properly before the command was out of her mouth and this time, her voice came out way louder and stronger than the sound of wind rustling outside.

Despite that, Valerius didn’t move at all. While he didn’t make a move to leave the room, he also didn’t move forward to come closer to her.

"Come here." Annalise could hardly believe how commanding she sounded at the moment but it did work as Valerius finally started moving and the next moment, he was already kneeling on the floor in front of her.

"Why are you kneeling here? Come and sit beside me." She said while tapping the empty space on the couch beside her.

However, the Winter Prince didn’t move at all, instead, he took hold of both her hands and placed a soft warm kiss on the back of her knuckles.

"What are you doing?" Annalise asked as she felt the mate bond filling with life and consuming all of her thoughts with positive and warm energy.

"I just want to be with you," Valerius replied as he placed his cheek over her hands and rested his face on her lap.

Annalise didn’t need him to speak any further as she already knew what he meant. They just completed their mate bond a day ago and instead of staying together to let the bond settle and their souls to enjoy each other’s company, she was trying to keep her distance from him too while she was only trying to tease Kenric. Somehow, she had ended up completely disregarding his feelings and needs.

"Valerius... are you alright?" She asked after she felt just how disturbed he was through their bond.

He remained silent for a while before finally shaking his head slowly. "I’m alright. Just let me stay like this for a while."

Annalise pulled one of her hands out of his hold and used her fingers to comb through Valerius’ long silver strands, making the man sighed in relief.

It was sometime during that moment when her fingernails mistakenly scratched the sensitive curved tip of his ear. The speed at which Valerius reacted as he almost jumped and let out a sharp gasp, made her go still immediately.

"Are... are you sensitive...?" She asked as her hand unconsciously went toward his ear once again but Valerius was quick to deflect as he hurriedly replied - "It’s not like that."

After spending such a long time with him, she didn’t even require help from the bond to know that he was lying. A smile bloomed on her lips as she called him out - "They are sensitive. Let me have a look again."

"No."

"Come on, just once."

"No."

Annalise let out a small sigh and snaked her hands over his shoulders before locking her fingers together at his nape. "Don’t you love using my sensitive spots to tease me? Then why am I not even allowed to touch it even once?"

Valerius stared at her for a while before he let out a small sigh and shook his head before speaking, "You have even learned how to be manipulative."

"You can give the credit to your brothers for that," Annalise responded with a bright smile which only made her husband shake his head again.

"So...?" She asked and waited for his response.

"You can’t." Valerius refused to give in to her pleas.

"How can you have the heart to say no to me?" Annalise knew that she could act but it was only at this moment that she realized her actual potential in acting and the way Valerius finally started looking as if he was contemplating his options, she knew that she was about to win the battle.

Bringing her face closer to his, she fluttered her eyelashes as surely as possible before whispering, "Just once... Please, husband."

Valerius let out a shaky breath before he slowly nodded his head in approval of her request - "Only once."

It took quite some effort on Annalise’s part to not jump with happiness. She felt like she had won some sort of really hard battle.

Her gaze shifted to Valerius’ ear and she reached out her hand toward the curved tip of his ear, a proof of his identity as a fae.

At the last moment, an idea stuck her and right before she trailed her finger tip down his ear edge, she added just the tiniest amount of magic in it.
