Chapter 255: Sparkles in Water (Part Four)
"Me?" Annalise was quite confused to hear Valerius asking such a question. "Do you think I can also do it? I mean borrowing your elemental powers?"
Valerius almost shrugged his shoulders in answer to her questions as he spoke," What I’m asking is if you think you will be able to do it?"
Annalise stared at her husband as her brain was still trying to process exactly what he was trying to imply through his words. She remained silent for a couple of moments and so did both of her husbands as they waited to hear her response.
"You want me to try it and see if I can borrow your elements or not, right?" She finally asked after she had finally concluded what it could be that her dear husband was trying to do.
"Not a bad idea. How about you try it now?" Kenric seemed even more excited at the prospect of her being able to use the borrowing of magical elements from them.
"Unlike the three of you, I don’t use elemental magic. Besides, borrowing powers is not any simple magical trick. I don’t think I will be able to pull it off." Annalise was not really as excited about the idea of trying this new trick and it was not because she actually believed that she would not be able to do it. Instead, it was the actual opposite of that.
She feared that she would succeed in performing the spell and it will unlock another magical talent of hers. She was already struggling to manage her current level of powers but if it continued to grow at such a rapid speed, she was sure that she would soon end up in a position where she could not control her powers and it would become dangerous, not only for her but everyone else around her too.
And if due to some miracle, she could manage to control her massive powers, she still was not looking forward to the future that it held for her. She still remembered something that her mother once told her - "Great powers come with great responsibilities."
which meant that if she accepted her powers, she would need to accept the responsibilities they would bring along them, and she was definitely not prepared for any such responsibilities.
She was someone who spent a very normal and pressure-free childhood, without any knowledge of the immense powers that had been sleeping inside her for over two decades. She was only made to believe that she would be able to live a life away from any Sort of drama or heavy responsibilities, but now, things were changing drastically.
She kept hearing how she was born to accomplish something really great, how she had fate waiting for her with her already decided destiny, but was she prepared for all this? Definitely No! Not only that but she could tell that there was very little time left before she would be facing the biggest secret/mystery of her life and along with that... would come the responsibilities she was trying to avoid.
This was basically the reason she showed almost next to no interest in finding out her true identity because as much as she wanted to know the truth, that very same truth scared her to the very core. What if the mystery of her true identity would shake up her present world, one that she had started to love so deeply?
"Little Bird?"
Annalise was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard Kenric’s soft voice calling her. She turned her face to look at him only to find his face barely a breath away from hers. She blinked her eyes slowly as her gaze shifted between his lips and his eyes.
"Though I would not mind fulfilling the ongoing fantasy in your brain, we need to pay attention to something more important at the moment. Let’s not distract each other, love." He whispered in such a soft voice that if not for her enhanced hearing, she would definitely have missed it despite how close their faces were to each other.
"I’m not doing anything."Annalise blurted out in her defense as she straightened her posture and turned her attention away from him only to find herself looking at Valerius who was still sitting in complete silence with his full attention focused on her.
She felt her cheeks warming up as she felt something fluttering deep inside her just because of his intense gaze that had refused to look away from her. Though she and kenric had done nothing except for talking, the fact that Valerius was watching them still made something shift inside her and in a way that urged her to forget about everything and only listen to her soul and body’s desires.
"We are still waiting for you to try the trick to borrow our elements. Come on, Little Bird, stop searching for excuses and give it a try. I’m sure we all will get to see another amazing strength of yours." Kenric tried to cheer her on but it was still not enough to make Annalise forget about her insecurities.
"Annalise, come here."
The words belonged to Valerius who stretched his hand toward her, offering her his open palm as he waited for her to accept his invitation.
Annalise quickly looked at Kenric who gave her an encouraging nod before he unwrapped his hand from around her waist and placed a soft feathery kiss against her temple. "Go."
She slowly climbed down from Kenric’s lap and moved toward Valerius before placing her hand in his waiting one. The man didn’t waste any time as he immediately pulled her into his arms and surprised her with a deep kiss that left her entire body needing more.
The kiss ended just as quickly as it started and Annalise almost groaned out loud in protest which made the first Dark Lord chuckle.
"No need to sulk, wife. We promise to reward you in a much better way if you will try the spell. And don’t worry, nothing will go wrong. We both are here with you."
