Chapter 245: The Most Powerful Ward of Four Realms

Annalise was almost shouting by the end of her sentence all the while she glared at Esme. His questions were now getting out of her control and she was feeling like he was making her confess something she had no clue about.

At some point, she had even climbed down from the bed, and now, she was standing in the middle of the room like a completely clueless person as she had no idea what to do next. Of course, she couldn’t leave as she still hadn’t found out anything about the Portal Hall incidents as they had completely taken a different path from there.

Instead of reacting shocked about her outburst, Esme remained calm, too calm for Annalise’s comfort. He too stood up from his seat and headed in her direction with long strides. Once he was standing right in front of her, he placed one of his hands on her shoulder, and she felt some sort of warm soothing energy passing through his fingers into her body.

Her usual instincts would have told her to pull away from his touch immediately, to stay away from his unknown but familiar powers. However, she felt nothing like that this time and her body even started relaxing. Even the soreness from before was gone.

It took a while before she was finally relaxed and able to communicate all over again. "I’m fine." She murmured before finally pulling away from him as she took a couple of steps back.

"Good. I apologize if my questions made you uncomfortable. I just wanted to see if anything has changed between us but it seems like even thousands of years couldn’t change the bond between us. I can finally relax now." Esme stated as he turned around and headed back to his chair and settled down in it all over again.

"Can you talk in a language that I can understand? It seems like you suddenly start talking about things that are somehow related to me but I still can’t understand how." Annalise couldn’t stop herself from complaining as she glared at tge man unhappily.

Esme nearly ignored her words but his next words made her forgive him almost immediately - "Alright. I’m ready to tell you about the incidents."

It didn’t even take Annalise a second before she had taken a seat in tge empty chair beside him with her full attention pointed at him. "Go ahead, start from the very beginning. Tell me everything related to those incidents, who was behind them, and what they really want."

Esme clearly arched his eyebrows under that mask of his but still started with the story of Portal Hall Incidents - "I won’t go into too deep of the story or about every single detail but..."

The protest died on tge very tip of Annalise’s tongue as she saw him pressing on his ’but’.

"... I will still give you all the answers and information that you seek."

Now, she found herself relaxing all over again as he confirmed to tell her all that she had been trying to find out about those incidents. She really hoped that all her efforts won’t go to waste after he would be done.

"The Seelie Realm believed in light and there are still people around the world who believe in the light, just like that there are people who believe in the darkness," Esme stated as he looked at the wall far ahead and coincidentally, it was covered in long black curtains.

"You mean the Unseelie?" Annalise asked when she thought about people from the Midnight Realm who carried powers related to darkness.

Esme immediately shook his head in the negative as he spoke - "The Unseelie only believes in the good part of the darkness and when they finally got to see the actual dead heart of that same darkness ten thousand years ago, they decided to stand by the side of the light to fight against the same darkness that created them. But unlike them, there are some who believe in that very dead heart of the darkness and want the darkness to rule this world."

He stopped to take a deep breath before continuing, "The light was lost in the Seelie Realm tragedy ten thousand years ago and the darkness got locked inside that very realm. Those believers of darkness have been trying to find a way to get the darkness freed from its confines and bring it back to its previous glory. All the secretive, mysterious, and unpredictable incidents happening around the world have everything to do with those people and their goal of helping the darkness rule this world."

Annalise wasn’t fully surprised as they all had long guessed that all these weird incidents had something to do with the dark energy but she had no idea that there were actually some people who wanted to bring the darkness into their beautiful world and destroy it.

"How are the Portal Hall incidents related to this?" She asked and waited to hear what he had to say in response.

"The ward around the Seelie Realm is the second most powerful ward that had ever been created throughout the history of the four realms. Of course, they need to try their best to break it enough to let the darkness free from its prison. And breaking that ward needs many powerful things that could be found around this world. Those Portal Halls also carried some really much-needed things that are required for taking down the wards." Esme stated as if it was the most understandable thing.

"Second most powerful ward? What’s the first?" Annalise asked that one question that she should be not paying attention to at the moment but she just couldn’t help it as she was surprised to hear that there was actually another ward more powerful than the ward around the Seelie Realm.

Esme turned his head to look at her in silence for a couple of very long seconds before he finally answered, "The most powerful ward to ever be created and that still exists to this day... you have already seen it, Annalise."
