Chapter 214: Watching The Stars (Part One)

Darkness chased Annalise as she ran through the dark and lifeless woods, her bare feet bleeding after getting scratched from the sharp stones or branches that were scattered all over the ground.

Her white dress was a complete mess as it was torn from various places, dirt and blood was covering it, and it looked nothing like something she would ever want to wear. Her hair looked no better than her dress or the rest of her body.

She was exhausted beyond words but her legs still refused to stop as she needed to save herself from the darkness that was chasing her.

"You can never run away from me, so don’t even try."

Annalise’s feet somehow picked up speed as she ran even faster once those words chased after her without any mercy.

"I’m the one who completes you."

"Denying the truth won’t change it. You can try running away from reality but it won’t stop chasing you until it has trapped you right where it wants."

The words kept chasing after her along with the darkness, trying its very best to capture her and never let her go. It carried fear... the same one that was trying to claw at her.

Annalise suddenly noticed the fog clearing from front of her, allowing her to take a look at the path upfront. That was how she was able to stop herself right before she could have stumbled down the edge of the high cliff that was awaiting her.

Her breathing was coming out in short gasps and she was on the brink of loosing her consciousness because of all the exhaustion. She turned around to look behind her only to hear his voice again.

"I’m the one who completes you. I’m your other half and the one you are destined to be tied to for eternity. I’m the one you can never run away from. I’m the one you should trust the most and fear the most too."

And right after that, a strong force pushed her, causing her to fall down from the high cliff right into the pitch black darkness.

Annalise woke up with a loud gasp, her eyes flew open and she found herself staring at a very familiar ceiling covered in beautiful vines.

"Annalise?" A familiar voice pulled her attention toward the man who was laying on the bed right beside her.

"Valerius." Annalise felt every single cell in her body finding safety as soon as her gaze met with the beautiful ice-blue eyes of her mate and husband.

Without wasting any time, she threw herself in his arms and her man happily pulled her into his safe embrace. "I’m right here, Annalise. I’m right here." He cooed softly in her ear as he softly brushed his fingers through her long curls.

It took a while but Annalise finally got herself in control and pulled back from Valerius’ arms to look at him. "Thank you, I’m alright now." She tried to put on a small smile just to convince him but she could tell that despite her efforts, the man wasn’t pursuaed at all.

"Was it a bad dream?" He asked while brushing away some loose strands of hair from her face.

Annalise took in a deep breath as she slowly nodded her head in response but didn’t speak as her mind was slightly pulled toward the memories that she just saw in the dream... or more likely the nightmare.

"Annalise." Valerius’ soft voice calling her name pulled her out of her thoughts and made her look at the man who was accompanying her through the night, something that her husbands had started doing ever since they returned. Every night, at least one of them stayed with her if not all three.

"I don’t feel like sleeping." She whispered while she kept her gaze fixed on his.

Valerius was silent for a while as he seemed to be observing her. Only after certain long moments had passed did he finally decided to break his silence - "Alright. What do you want to do then?"

Annalise thought for a while before her gaze turned to look at the nightsky outside the window. "How about we take a walk outside and enjoy the stars?" Her eyes were filled with hope as she turned her gaze back to him and waited for his answer.

Instead of answering with words, Valerius climbed down from the bed and got dressed in silence. Once he was done, he picked up the outer robe and a cloak before handing them to Annalise. "Come on, get ready and I’ll take you to admire the stars and the moon."

Annalise couldn’t help the instant smile that bloomed on her lips as she hurriedly got dressed and after putting on her shoes, she was ready to follow her husband who took hold of her hand and pulled her out of the bed-chamber.

Instead of heading to the front garden like she was expecting, the first dark lord took her to the long corridor leading to the pavilion.

"Why here?" She asked him as she entered the pavilion and watched her husband performing some sort of spell.

A makeshift bed appeared on the floor and then Valerius qas pulling her toward it. She didn’t question him and silently took a seat on the warm comforter and watched her husband taking his place beside her.

Valerius moved his fingers again as if casting another silent spell and then she watched the stone ceiling of the pavilion turning transparent before the entire night sky was visible to her eyes.

"Wow!"

She turned her attention toward the man sitting beside her and while surprising both of them, she planted a kiss on his cheek.

Once the surprise settled, Valerius turned to give her a soft smile before he spoke, "I will take it ad if you liked my idea. But I’m still apologetic as my plan doesn’t include the part of taking a walk. How about we take a walk through thd garden first before returning here?"

Annalise quickly shook hef head as she replied, "Never mind, I have something new to do now."
