Chapter 207: Not Being Able to Run Away
Annalise and her little familiar followed behind the masked man as he led them out of the restaurant and through an almost empty side street. Even though they had no clue where he was taking them, Annalise had no plans of running away yet
’Master, should I leave first and alert your husbands?’ The little lion suggested through the mind link in order to keep the conversation a secret from the masked man.
Annalise almost stopped in her tracks to glare at her ungrateful and coward familiar who was already thinking about abandoning her in such a serious matter. Still, she somehow succeeded in keeping her calm and continued to follow the man as she replied to her familiar, "Don’t even think about going anywhere without me."
She didn’t use the mind link and just stated the words out loud for the little lion to hear and while she expected to see some sort of surprised or confused reaction from the masked man, he kept walking without any response to her sudden words.
They finally reached the entrance of a building that seemed like the residence of some rich person. The man walked up a couple of steps leading to the entrance gate and pushed it open with a single flick of his wrist.
"This is my house, come in." The man informed/ordered before he walked inside without sparing a single look in their direction. He seemed to be fully confident that she would indeed follow him.
For a fleeting second, she almost considered the idea of taking advantage of the moment to run away, however, she knew better than to test the masked man’s patience. Even though her instincts seemed to be on leave at the moment, she still somehow knew that the man was not just bluffing about her being unable to run away from him.
"Are you thinking of running away?" The snow lion asked as it jumped up the steps and stopped on the topmost one to look at her.
Instead of responding to his accusation, she asked a question in return, "Do you even remember that you have wings?" She still recalled how it was jumping around to catch those pixies when she first found it after entering the magical sphere.
The little lion didn’t seem as amused by her question as she was, it just glared at her while responding, "None of your business."
Annalise watched with squinted eyes as the little lion immediately turned around and ran inside the house without giving her a second glance. Sometimes, she had a feeling that instead of s familiar, she had found herself a bickering sibling.
She stood there outside the house wondering exactly what sort of future awaited her inside the building and exactly what sort of person that masked man was.
She could tell that he had a dangerous aura surrounding him but if she had to tell the truth, she couldn’t deny that the real feeling sad got from him was that of warmth and completeness.
The realization had her stunned as she found how similar these emotions were with how safe she felt in the company of her husbands. The idea didn’t set right with her at all.
"Are you going to stay here all day?" The masked man reappeared at the entrance of his house as he asked the question when she didn’t get inside after so long.
Annalise had a sudden urge to remind him that she won’t be staying in the city for the entire day but somehow succeeded in keeping her mouth shut and landing herself in an unwanted situation. Still, it seemed like the man already guessed what she was sbout to say because he reminded her - "You can’t leave this place unless I say do. You can give it a try to confirm."
Annalise stared at him for a while without moving from her place, then, she finally found herself asking, "Who are you?"
The man didn’t answer immediately, instead, he just stood at the entrance gate of his house and studied her for a while before finally speaking, "Come inside."
That was it! No answer, no suggestion, no confrontation but another straight order that she was expected to follow. She thought about asking him why he was so confident that she would indeed follow him. Still, she kept her lips shut tightly as she finally stepped forward.
She climbed up the stairs and reached the entrance gate. Taking in a deep breath to stable her racing heart, she finally took her first step beyond the threshold only to realize there was no magical barrier surrounding the house.
The man didn’t say anything and just turned around and started walking across the garden that was covering a large area before the main residence building was standing in full glory.
As she walked behind the man in silence, she used the time to study him further. He was tall, even taller than her husbands and while his entire body was hidden beneath his clothes including his face and hands, she still noticed the pale skin on his neck that was the only portion of his skin left on display and was not hidden.
He walked confidently but also mysteriously as if he was actually keeping a low profile while he actually seemed like someone who would draw everyone’s attention as soon as he would enter a crowded place.
She already knew that he was old and very powerful but what she was most interested to know was exactly who he was and what he wanted from her.
"Am I that captivating that you can’t even look away from me?" Thd man suddenly questioned without even looking back. He seemed to have invisible eyes on the back of his head too that seemed to be following her every action.
She didn’t answer and just looked away from the man. They walked past the garden and entered the building and the first thing she noticed after stepping inside left her totally mesmerized.
