Chapter 206: The Secret World of Seelies
"This thing is actually tasty. Can you order another one?" The little lion cooed from where it was sitting on top of the wooden table as it enjoyed the mixed fruit sake that Annalise had ordered for herself as the two of them sat in the common dining area of one of the many diners located around the city.
Annalise ignored the beast and continued to listen through the several conversations going around her as seelies sat there in groups and talked about various things. Her main focus at the moment was to find out as much about the secret sphere as she could.
Initially, she and the little lion tried to find some sort of library to get their hands on any information related to the magical sphere but much to their dismay and utter surprise, they didn’t find a single library or anything related to it throughout the city.
But thinking about the matter deeply, she could guess why the people living in the sphere won’t be keen about leaving such information in the open for anyone to get their hands on it. If she had to guess, such records would only be limited to certain numbers and probably held by the main houses/leaders of all the Seelie races that were residing in the sphere.
That’s why they decided to look for a substitute and ended up in the restaurant to look for some information as the mass of people gathered there would probably leak a thing or two while they were completely unaware of the eavesdroppers who had entered their safe zone.
"None of them are talking about anything useful. How about you pay some attention to me in the meantime?" The little lion suggested in a snarky tone as it gave her a very judgemental look.
Since Annalise couldn’t refute its statement about anyone talking about anything useful to them, she had no other option left but to actually listen to its request. Letting out a small sigh, she signaled the waitperson to get her another mixed fruit sake.
It didn’t take long before the little lion finished the second glass of juice and even then, Annalise hadn’t found anything useful from the people talking around them. They were either talking about daily lives or comparing about one thing or another.
There was almost no one mentioning anything about how they were living inside a magical sphere located inside one of the many rooms of an ancient old castle, or about the Seelie Realm or the other realms. There was absolutely no mention of anything that was actually familiar to her.
"Do you want another one?"
The sudden unfamiliar voice that greeted them pulled Annalise’s attention toward the person who just approached them and was sliding another glass of mixed fruit shake in front of the little lion which seemed torn between its newfound love for the fruit sake and its suspicion toward the person who had so easily looked through the invisibility spell that had kept it hidden from all prying eyes.
Annalise’s eyes landed on the tall man standing right in front of her table with his face hidden behind a mask. She didn’t need someone to tell her that the man was beyond powerful and really old. What surprised her was how she couldn’t tell exactly what kind of supernatural he was.
Before she could have responded, the man had already taken a seat on one of the empty chairs sitting around the table. He seemed too relaxed for Annalise and the little lion’s comfort as the latter two shared a quick look before turning their attention toward the masked man.
"Hello, My Lady, I’m Esme, and someone who loves making new friends. What about you two? You don’t seem to be someone normal."
Since his voice barely carried any tone and he had a mask on that hid his entire face except for his eyes, Annalise tried to look into his eyes to see if she could sense his intentions but much to her dismay, the man seemed to be trying his best not to look straight into her eyes as he looked around the area but at her.
"I don’t want to sound rude, My Lord but can you please find another..." She didn’t get to finish before the man suddenly turned toward her and she finally got to look straight into his eyes which left her stunned.
She got lost in his deep green eyes which seemed to be staring right into her soul. She felt something stirring inside her, maybe it was her powers or probably her soul, but he was doing something strange to her.
She was so lost in that moment that she could hardly understand what sort of emotions she was dealing with. The only thing she knew for sure was that the man was not someone normal and she shouldn’t be staying in his company for too long, but at the very same time, her legs seemed to be not really keen about walking away from him.
His eyes suddenly sparkled as he let out a small huff of a laugh before speaking, "I won’t suggest you to even try running from me because I’m really good at catching things that are of my interest. Besides, I don’t think it will be of any help for you both if these people find out that there’s an invader here because trust me..." He stopped speaking to inch his face closer to hers before continuing, "... people here don’t appreciate visitors, no matter whether good or bad."
Annalise felt her throat drying as her mind registered his words. She once again shared a look with her familiar who had crept closer to her at some point. So far, one thing was very clear to them about the masked man - he knew that they were not from the city.
The man suddenly stood up and turned around to leave but not before stating in a commanding tone, "Follow me!"
