The Veil of Darkness -
Chapter 179: Never Regret It
Chapter 179: Never Regret It
The dark lords sat on the floor of Annalise’s room while surrounding their wife who had finally calmed down a little bit after they constantly tried to make her feel better about the shock and fear that had gripped her tightly.
"Princess, do you want us to take you to the Grand Duke’s mansion?" Damien asked as he softly brushed his fingers through her hair while she sat on his lap with her head resting against his shoulder.
Valerius and Kenric were also sitting surrounding both of them with their hands resting against Annalise’s body to keep the woman aware of their presence beside her and also to comfort her in their own way.
In response to his question, Annalise immediately shook her head in denial, and while he did understand why she was reluctant to face her parents relating the issue, he knew that being emotional won’t solve things.
"But Princess, talking to your parents is the right thing to do." He pressed while pulling her body away from him enough to make her look at him. He couldn’t deny that both his heart and soul felt great despair at the sight of her sorrow-filled eyes. The smile that he was most fond of was nowhere to be seen, nor was the twinkle in her beautiful ocean-blue eyes that were now looking so lost.
He just wanted to keep her protected in his arms and never let her face the darkness and sorrow in the outside world. She was too pure for the grievances and the manipulation that the outside world carried.
However, no matter how much he wanted to keep her safe from every bad thing, he knew that he couldn’t do that. He couldn’t fight her wars, nor could he face her struggles and turn them into happy moments of her life. What he could do and should do, was to be there for her at every up and down of her life and to guide her through the thick and thin whenever she needed him to. That was what he promised to her in their Fae soul-bonding marriage vows.
Right at the moment what she really needed most was not to be kept hidden from the worries, truths, and secrets that were waiting for her. Instead, she needed to face them headstrong so that she could find the answers she never knew she was searching for. Even if facing the truth meant she was going to be in pain for a while, she still needed to do it so that she could walk forward in her life.
He couldn’t hide her from whatever was destined to come her way but one thing that he could do for her and would surely do was to stand right beside her and face her destiny along with her, just as a soulmate was supposed to do. Most importantly, he knew that he wasn’t alone, his brothers would also be there with him and their wife.
"Meeting your parents and talking to them will give you the answers that you seek. They can finally solve the mystery that surrounds you and tell you more about... maybe yourself, your powers, or... your real parents." He tried to make his wife understand the good side of the idea of her meeting with her parents but he soon realized his mistake with his chosen words.
Annalise didn’t say a single word, probably because she didn’t even have the strength to defend her identity as the real daughter of the Grand Duke and Duchess. Even her husbands seemed to believe that what the King said about her not being the real daughter of the Grand Duke was actually true as they didn’t question it even once.
Of course, they had pointed out this possibility a couple of times before in the past when they were shocked by the amount of power she held and it seemed like the King just confirmed their doubts.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she felt her heart shattering at the thought of her worst nightmare coming true. She hurriedly wiped them away from her cheeks while she also pulled away from her mates and stood up to move away from them.
"Fine. I’ll think about it but for now... I need some alone time." Her voice came out much stronger than she was expecting considering how weak she was actually feeling at that moment. She also looked right at their faces as if to show them that she could handle herself.
The dark lords also stood up from their sitting positions and turned to face her before exchanging quick looks among themselves. It was Valerius who spoke on behalf of all three of them, "It’s fine. You can take as long as you need, there’s no hurry. What matters most is for you to be prepared for it. We will always be here for you."
Their support made Annalise feel relaxed and she felt some of the tension leaving her body that had gone stiff in the past couple of minutes. She let out a small sigh and nodded her head in understanding while giving a barely noticeable smile of appreciation to her husbands.
Kenric moved closer and took her hands in his own before he brought them close to his mouth and placed soft and warm kisses on the back of her hands. "I love you, Little Bird, and I want you to know that no matter what, I’ll always be standing right next to you, supporting you, encouraging you, loving you, and trying my best to be understanding toward your decisions. All I need in return from you, wife, is to trust us in return. Trust us enough to know that we will never do anything to hurt you."
How could anyone not melt at such warm words? Annalise almost felt like his fire was melting not only her heart but even her soul as she find his warmth surrounding her in its comfort.
She passed a quick look in Valerius and Damien’s direction before turning it back to Kenric as she whispered, "I do. I trust you three with my life, My Lords, and I know that I’ll never regret it."
