Chapter 140: Time to put on a Perfect Show
Annalise stared at her left wrist where a small red petal was imprinted right next to her moon thread. She was still able to recall the exact sensation of warmth filling her entire body the very moment Kenric’s fire essence entered her body and settled down inside her, the petal on her wrist was the evidence of its presence inside her.
If she didn’t know better about the elemental cores of a fae, she would probably have not thought much about what the third dark lord did but she knew pretty well just what sharing one’s core element’s essence meant.
By sharing the essence of his core magic, he not only showed his utmost trust in her but it was almost equal to him committing himself to her for eternity. That small essence of his fire magic that was now living inside Annalise, would bind him to her for as long as he would possess fire element.
Though it was still nothing like a soulmate bond shared between soulmates, it was still as pure and powerful as a soul bond.
"Come on, it’s time to depart." Leela entered the room and informed Annalise. It was already dawn and the decided time for them to depart for the Mortal Realm.
The two of them made their way downstairs and then out of the inn where they found Ezra and company waiting for them with the horses. "Where are we heading now?" Leela asked them while feigning ignorance about all the information that she had about their plans.
"We are going to head to the Mortal Realm now." One of the other men answered and both Leela and Annalise performed spectacularly as they stared at the man in return with pure confusion and shock evident on their faces.
"The Mortal Realm?" Annalise questioned while turning her gaze toward Ezra. She tried her very best to keep her expression natural and not to overdo things just to be up making the men suspect her and Leela.
"We know that this is so sudden but that’s where we will be heading now. We somehow lost track of the intruder during the night. When we woke up this morning, we weren’t able to feel his presence anywhere nearby. He seemed to have invaded us safely for the time being." Ezra informed them and once again, he told them no lie while concealing the entire truth from them.
Leela couldn’t help herself as she turned to look at Annalise with a surprised gaze but thankfully, the men did not seem suspicious about it. However, they too were now looking at her while waiting for something.
It take a couple of precious seconds before teg realization hit Annalise and she hurriedly spoke to handle the awkward situation that was soon ready to get out of control. "He seemed to be telling the truth." She said while looking at Leela before sparing a quick look in the men’s direction who couldn’t hide the way they all relaxed a little bit after her statement.
Leela continued with her acting as she too turned her suspicious gaze toward the men. It was only after several long moments of pure silence that she opened her mouth and questioned, "If that’s the case, why are you all heading to the Mortal Realm instead of returning to Sky Castle?"
The men didn’t seem taken aback by the question or anything similar to that, instead, Ezra had the answer ready as he responded almost immediately, "We have orders from the Crown Princess to deliver an urgent message to King Isador. That’s why."
Once again everyone turned their attention to Annalise which made her cluster as she hurriedly nodded her head before stating, "That... doesn’t sound like a lie either." Her attention was once again mostly pointed at Leela as she spoke.
"Are you sure your ability to sense lies is functioning properly?" Leela questioned as she stared at Annalise with genuine doubt written all over her face.
"You..." Annalise stared back at the girl as she tried not to get offended as she could understand Leela’s frustration. After all, the men were telling them a completely different story from what they had actually planned, and even after knowing the entire truth, she was saying that they weren’t lying. "They are indeed not lying. Don’t you dare question my ability!"
Leela just made an unimpressed face as she turned her attention back to Ezra and his men who seemed way more relaxed now as if they had passed some sort of difficult test. Only if they knew better. She had no plans of allowing them any sort of relief anytime soon. "Fine. We will follow them to the Mortal Realm then."
"What?"
"Why?"
Ezra and Annalise questioned in utter shock at the very same time but while the former was being genuine, the latter was just putting on a show to fool the men.
Leela exchanged glances between Annalise and Ezra as she answered, "Because I can’t make myself trust these men. Even though you are saying that they aren’t lying to us, I can’t put off the feeling that there’s something fishy about their entire story. So... to make sure that they rent really lying to us, we will follow them until they will return to Sky Castle."
Ezra let out a long sigh that couldn’t hide just how unbelieving the situation was to him. On the other hand, Annalise pretended somewhat similar expressions as she spoke, "Then you can do that on your own, I have no interest in continuing with this journey. I will be heading back to Lakeshire." She pretended to head toward her horse but Leela was quick to stop her.
"Let me remind you again, My lady. You are under my guardianship at the moment and because of that, you have to follow me wherever I will go, and right now, I’m heading to the Mortal Realm and you are coming with me." The girl stated loud and clear.
