Chapter 139: Embers of Kenric’s Fire

Annalise snuggled closer into Kenric’s chest and felt the man tightening his arms around her as he pulled her even closer if that was even possible at the point considering their bodies were almost plastered against each other.

"Are you sure this place is safe? What if someone suddenly decides to come out of the Mer Court or someone has to go inside? What are we going to do then?" She couldn’t help but ask Kenric as she was once again worrying about their privacy. She was in no way looking forward to getting embarrassed by getting caught naked in the bed by some stranger.

Kenric smiled softly as he brushed her hair away from her temple and tucked them behind her ear before replying, "Stop worrying, Sparks. No one is going to stumble upon us." He didn’t clarify why he was so confident about his statement but at least, it did help her in calming down a little bit.

A comfortable silence took over them as they lay there in each other’s arms after the passionate lovemaking session. No matter how late at night it was already, neither of them seemed to be anywhere near falling asleep.

"It’s past three in the morning, you should get some sleep, Little bird," Kenric told Annalise as he brushed his fingers softly through her hair, making her eyes flutter as she found herself enjoying the sweet sensation.

Annalise slowly shook her head in the negative before she spoke, "I’m not going to see you in the morning, right?" She already knew the answer deep down in her heart but she still asked to hear it from him.

Kenric let out a small breath before he answered in a small voice, "Right, you will need to leave for the Mortal Realm in the morning with that Mer girl and those men from the Sky Castle but none of us brothers can accompany you as we have some other works to take care of in the meantime."

Annalise felt her heart drop at his reply even though she had already known that she won’t be getting to spend any time with them for the next couple of days considering they hadn’t come to meet her and had made her come to them and that too through a dream spell.

"Don’t be too disheartened. Though Valerius will be too busy for the next couple of days and I’ll need to stay at the Mer Court, Damien would head to you as soon as he will be done with his work. In the meantime, we all are expecting you to perform well and not make us worry about you." Kenric added as he pulled her chin up to make her look up at him.

"I won’t be able to even sense you." Annalise couldn’t help but state as she recalled how unnatural it felt to not have a connection with him.

The man placed a kiss on her forehead before he took hold of her hand and entangled their fingers before speaking, "Let me try something. It won’t be able to create a bond between us but you will be able to access me whenever you will follow the embers of my fire."

Annalise’s eyes immediately sparkled as hope bloomed inside her heart. She hurriedly asked, "Would it work even when you will stay inside the Mer Court? And how long will it be able to work before going out of power?"

Kenric chuckled softly as he placed a kiss on her knuckles before placing their joining hands against his chest as he answered her questions. "This will work no matter my location, even inside the Mer Court and it will never go out of power. This will work as long as I’ll live and will only stop working when I will die..."

Annalise quickly placed her other hand over his mouth to stop him from talking nonsense, her ocean-blue eyes staring into his orbs with a complaining look in them that he immediately understood.

"I’m sorry, I won’t talk like this ever again." He promised while apologizing while pulling her hand away from his mouth. "Now, let me get that special thing for you."

Annalise watched in participation as Kenric moved into a sitting position on the bed, his finely built upper body coming into a full display once again for her while unfortunately, his lower body was hidden beneath the blanket.

She followed behind him and also moved into a sitting position while clutching the cover over her breasts to hide her nakedness. Her eyes keenly followed his every action and watched as the man closed his eyes and seemed to be focusing his full attention on something.

She felt him moving their joined hands until their palms were facing upward between the two of them. He moved his hand below hers, his palm cupping the back of her hand. For a couple of moments, nothing happened but then she heard him speaking. "Sparks, try to connect to my fire."

Listening to his advice, Annalise closed her eyes and did exactly what he wanted. She let her powers surface and join his embers that were tugging on her. It didn’t even take seconds before their powers were mingling together and she felt Kenric letting out a small satisfied sigh.

A burning sensation hit the back of her palm but it wasn’t discomforting at all. As she kept watching, she finally noticed the little fireball emerging out of her palm that felt like the purest form of Kenric’s fire element.

She looked up at Kenric in question and found the man looking directly back at her with a fond expression on his face. There was warmth filling his beautiful eyes as he looked at her without speaking while she felt the same warmth filling her heart through the tiny fireball that was floating above her palm.

"What is it, Kenric?" She asked when the man didn’t speak for a long time.

A very sincere smile bloomed on the third dark lord’s lips as he answered, "Annalise, let me offer to you a part of the original essence of my fire."
