Chapter 107: A New Feeling

"To be honest, I really can’t help much in this case because as I told you all, we ended the case and locked the Portal Hall, no one ever mentioned the incident after that. So, I don’t know much about the incident to help you." The City Governor spoke as he let out a small sigh.

His response didn’t really make anyone happy and he probably noticed that too as he spoke again and this time with a little bit of excitement in his tone that immediately grabbed everyone’s attention.

"Though I personally can’t be of much help, in this case, you can try searching for clues in the Mortal Realm as I heard they conducted a really big investigation back then. Though they too eventually stopped after a couple of months, there were rumors that they did find some clues."

"Why did they stop investigating then?" Annalise found herself asking as it didn’t make sense for them to stop their investigation when they actually had some clues with them to sort out such a huge case.

The City Governor let out another sigh before he replied while shaking his head, "It’s hard to say as we don’t know much of the inside information of the Mortal Realm’s Royal Palace. Maybe they stopped for the same reason as ours."

It wasn’t clear whether the City Governor was pointing at the previous King and how he handled the case or it was just what Annalise end up thinking after hearing his last few words but it did seem like the Royals were deeply involved in these cases.

At this point, it was pretty much clear to everyone that the Incidents of the Portal Halls in both the Seelie Empire and Mortal Realm were way more mysterious and serious than they appeared.

And somehow, the mastermind behind these incidents had successfully invaded two of the Portal Halls without alerting the general public.

Annalise’s gaze landed on Kenric who gave her a little signal that she immediately understood. Nodding her head once, she joined her husbands as they all stood up from their seats, surprising the City Governor who seemed a little taken aback to see them all suddenly standing up at once.

"Thank you for all your help and we would like to apologize for disturbing your evening. We will be taking our leave now." Valerius spoke as the City Governor followed their suit and also stood up.

"How about staying the night here and having dinner at my home, My Lords and Your Highness?" The old man offered with hopeful eyes and it seemed like he genuinely wanted them to join him for the dinner.

"Maybe some other time." Valerius was quick to decline the offer with his soft and warm smile that probably made the old man feel just as nice as it used to make Annalise.

The City Governor seemed to understand that they won’t be staying no matter how many times he would try, and thankfully he didn’t pursue for long and just nodded his head in understanding.

The four of them took their leave and headed toward the entrance of the manor. Just as they were about to step outside, Annalise noticed the old madam running toward the pavilion with servants following behind her while carrying trays of snacks and kettles of tea.

A small smile appeared on her lips as she finally stepped out of the manor and followed her husbands toward their waiting horses.

The sun had already set and the night view of Millerville City was just as beautiful as she was predicting. The beautiful lanterns hanging over the streets filled the night with brightness while the streets were bustling with citizens who were out either to enjoy the night market or just stroll around the area.

Her husbands decided to walk through the market area instead of riding their horses and Annalise was more than excited about the idea.

"What’s our plan next?" Kenric asked as he and Damien followed closely behind Annalise and Valerius with their horses.

"Let’s head back to the Portal Hall. We will see if we can find some clues there. Also, I noticed an inn close to the Portal Hall, we will stay there for the night and leave early morning." Valerius told everyone as he took hold of Annalise’s hand and pulled her closer to him when a group of tall men passed by her.

"What a day. We already have our hands full and now this new mystery too." Kenric murmured as he shook his head and turned his attention toward the stalls that were lining the market streets.

"No matter how serious these Portal Halls incidents are, we still need to head to Lakeshire first. That is still our biggest task to accomplish." Damien said as he placed his palm against Annalise’s waist and pushed her lightly toward Valerius when another group of people passed by.

She almost wanted to tell the men that she won’t get hurt that easily but knowing that they were just worried about her and trying to keep her away from harm, she remained silent. Besides, even she couldn’t trust herself about the ’won’t get hurt’ part, these days, she was getting hurt too easily.

"Why are we even going to Lakeshire? You never mentioned that to me." She turned her attention to Valerius as she asked the question.

"You will find out in due time." That was all the man said in response as he once again tugged in her hand but this time for a completely different reason. He pulled her toward a stall that was selling jewelry.

"Let’s get you something from here." He said as he started looking through the variation of designs that were present. The other two lords were also there in no time and they too immediately started to look for something that would suit her.

Annalise observed the three men who were immersed in finding the perfect set for her and she felt warmth filling her, and at the very same time, something fluttered inside her - a new feeling that she had started sensing for only these three men.
