Chapter 63: Stop showing your concern for me
Chapter 63: Stop showing your concern for me
As the carriage halted outside the Duke’s residence, the guard opened the door for them. Magnus was the first to step out, followed by Alora. The other guard rushed in to inform Duke Benedict about the Vampire prince’s presence while the first one led their way inside.
Benedict was quick to go out and meet with them. While Alora kept her head low, Magnus and Benedict exchanged greetings with each other.
"We are here on the report of the disappearance of Venus," Magnus stated.
"Please come inside and then, we can talk about it," Benedict said.
"Hmm." They both followed the Duke inside his residence and made their way to the large living room. After they sat down, Alora asked about Eugene.
"My son has gone out to find Venus. This is such a disturbing fact for all of us. We considered Venus as our child and she ran away," commented Lady Eloise, Venus’s mother-in-law as she entered the living room.
"I don’t think my sister has run away," Alora said. Eloise noticed that Venus’s sister was without the blindfold and apologized to her for her harsh comment.
"We have a name not only among the humans but also the Vampires and the Werewolves," Eloise said with a humble tone. "Our daughter-in-law ran away, so what does Princess Alora think the people think about us?" she enquired of her.
"People will think that Venus’s in-laws were not good to her," Magnus remarked, interrupting in the conversation. He couldn’t read the minds of any of them, causing his suspicion to grow further. ’Did they protect their minds from being read knowing the fact I’ll be here?’
"Your Highness, we consider Venus as our daughter," Benedict stated this time.
"Shall we come direct on the point, Duke Benedict?" Magnus asked.
The Duke wondered what Magnus meant by that.
"Why did you all turn to the werewolves?" Magnus queried straightforwardly. Alora tilted her head to gaze at him. She didn’t anticipate he would ask such a question from them out of the blue.
"Wh-what is Prince Magnus saying?" Benedict pretended as he asked him not to accuse them for something they never did.
"I read your minds on Venus and Eugene’s marriage day," stated Magnus, looking straight into Benedict’s eyes. "So, by any chance is Venus converted into a werewolf? Tomorrow is a blood moon and it is perfect for her transformation," he pronounced.
Alora got tensed to hear that. She didn’t wish her sister to become a werewolf.
"Your Highness, no such thing has happened," Benedict said. He didn’t know how to respond to the direct confrontation he got from Magnus.
"Benedict, I don’t believe in wasting time. Just tell me what exactly happened or I’ve other ways to bring the truth out. You won’t want a vampire to fight with you," Magnus affirmed.
Eloise gulped thinking their truth would come out if they admitted their identity as werewolves.
"My sister didn’t deserve it. We thought you all were humans," Alora ended up speaking. "Please tell us where Venus is."
"Venus has run away, Your Highnesses. I admit that we are a family of werewolves. However, Venus wasn’t transformed into a werewolf. In the morning, we didn’t find her in the residence," Benedict truthfully replied as he revealed the truth to them.
"When will Eugene return?" asked Magnus.
"We don’t know," Benedict answered.
Magnus doubted that Venus wasn’t turned into a werewolf. Eugene might have hidden it from his family. That was why he never liked the werewolves. They were just some dominant creatures because of their strange attributes toward their mates.
He sensed Alora’s worries and assured her Venus would be found soon.
"Why did you all hide the facts about your real identities?" Alora asked them. "My sister wasn’t supposed to marry a werewolf," she muttered.
"We live as humans, Princess Alora," Eloise stated.
"Venus is my mate. That’s why I sent a proposal for her," Eugene’s voice reverberated in their ears. "I have brought her home. She didn’t run away, Mother," he informed them and turned to look at Venus, who entered the living room.
Magnus glanced at her and found even Venus’s mind was unreadable to him. He spotted a pendant on her neck and realized that it had some spell on it, which prevented him from reading their thoughts.
"Alora, Prince Magnus, what are you doing here?" Venus inquired.
"The news of your disappearance reached home," Alora stated and she rose to her feet. Keeping her eyes low, she approached Venus and finally hugged her sister.
"Are you well? Mother and Grandma were worried for you," Alora said as she caressed her back. Magnus noticed how Venus looked low in spirit. She even reciprocated Alora’s hug, which definitely was not an act.
"Why didn’t you bite her till now?" Magnus questioned Eugene. "You claim her as your mate, but you didn’t tell this to the Wilson Family before the marriage. Why?" He squinted his eyes in suspicion.
"That’s my personal matter with Venus, Your Highness," Eugene replied. "I hope the Prince will understand," he stated.
Alora withdrew from the hug with Venus and told Eugene that he should not have lied to her family when asked for Venus’s hand. "Where did you go Venus in the early morning?" she asked, placing her hands on her arms.
"She and I had an argument. In anger, she left. Because it is a couple’s matter, Princess Alora should stay out of this," Eugene affirmed.
Magnus finally rose to his feet. "Well, Eugene, it is no longer personal," he pronounced. "You should not have let the matter out. Remove the locket from Venus’s neck. I wish to read her mind," he pronounced, "or remove the spell you all have put on yourselves with the help of a witch." His command was clear.
"Prince Magnus, it is my matter with Venus. She is my wife, so I cannot allow you to read her mind. That will be a breach of privacy," Eugene humbly refused to do so.
"Venus, why don’t you remove it, then?" Magnus gazed at him.
"Venus, do it. You don’t have to hide anything from us," Alora asserted.
"I don’t wish to," Venus replied.
"We won’t come to save you if anything happens," Magnus cleared to her.
"I am not in any kind of danger," Venus stated with a smile.
Alora held her hands when Venus pushed her away. "Stop showing your concern for me," she shouted at Alora.
Magnus stepped up when Alora blocked his way. "Let’s leave," she urged, not wanting a fight to break because of her.
Magnus looked at all of them for the last time and left with Alora.
