Chapter 60: Alora’s parental home

After breakfast, Alora headed outside the residence with Magnus. As she settled inside the coach, she removed the blindfold from her eyes. Keeping it on her lap, she waited for the carriage to move ahead.

"Magnus, why do you fight with your siblings? Brother Izaak isn’t a bad person. But you portray him as one. Earlier what you said to him was harsh," Alora wanted Magnus to make his relationship better with both Lillian and Izaak.

"He scared you last night by telling you how I kill humans once my hunger for blood increases. Lillian, on the other hand, just shows how much she despises you, which makes me angry. If I won’t take a stand for you, then who will," Magnus explained his stance on being harsher on his two siblings. He told her how Alaric always understood him even though they had communicated so less with each other.

"What will His Highness do for the humans whom he killed in the process of drinking the blood from them? Their families must be in distress. They might have cursed you," Alora said as she was upset thinking her husband might get those curses.

"I didn’t kill innocent humans. Even during my hunt, I make sure I go for evil humans," Magnus clarified to her.

"So, all those were evils? What crimes did they commit?" She asked curiously.

"Heinous ones," Magnus replied.

"Will His Highness be able to keep himself in control tonight? He can come to me if he feels trouble sleeping," Alora suggested to him. However, she was aware that Magnus would not do that. "You don’t need to hide such a side of yours from me," she added.

"Alora, stay quiet. My decision has been made. You and I have to stay away for two nights," Magnus said in a stern tone.

She pouted her lips and gazed out of the coach’s window, taking in the vast expanse of green fields dotted with tiny figures of farmers toiling away.

Magnus felt a sudden emptiness with the silence of Alora, who was usually always chattering. While he was more reserved, Alora loved to talk incessantly, perhaps curious about everything around her.

Deciding to break the silence, he moved to sit beside her, prompting her to turn her head and look at him.

"I didn’t mean to scold you," Magnus said. "I cannot bear to see you hurt. You know how much I get affected because of you. Do you think I’ll be able to forgive myself if by any chance I hurt you?" His tone was humble and soft.

"I don’t mind His Highness’s scolding. I find love in it," Alora replied with a smile. She snuggled her head close to him and wrapped her arm around him.

Magnus chuckled and placed his hand on her head, stroking it tenderly.

Finally, they reached Alora’s parental home. She swiftly put on the blindfold, not wanting anyone to feel uncomfortable in her family. Magnus exited the coach first and then, helped her get out. The guards bowed to them and opened the iron gates for them.

Magnus had his hand on her shoulder as he took her ahead on the cobblestone pavement. The servants present in the garden spotted them and were surprised by their sudden arrival.

Rhea was already informed about her daughter and she quickly ran outside to welcome Alora and Magnus.

"Alora!" Rhea called out her daughter’s name before greeting the prince.

"Mother," Alora smiled brightly and waited for Rhea to embrace her. Once she did, Alora rested her hands on her mother’s back. Pulling away, Rhea planted a kiss on her daughter’s forehead.

"Your Highness, let’s go in," Rhea said as she welcomed them inside.

After they settled in the living room, Rhea asked the servant to give them water. However, Magnus refused. He, instead, helped Alora in drinking the water. Rhea was overwhelmed to see that sight.

Once Alora stopped drinking, Magnus placed the glass on the tray, which a maid was holding. He wiped her lips using his thumb. As he straightened himself and kept his clasped hands on his lap, he told Rhea the purpose of their sudden arrival.

"The blood moon is tomorrow. I want Alora to stay away from all the vampires. That’s why I have brought her here. I’ll pick up the day after tomorrow," Magnus informed Rhea.

"Sure, Your Highness. I’m glad to see how considerate you are toward Alora," Rhea asserted.

"Take good care of my wife, Mrs. Wilson. Make sure no one speaks disrespectfully with the Princess," Magnus stated intentionally as he already had seen Madam Aubrey reaching the living room.

"Now, Alora is married, so no one has the audacity to speak disrespectfully to her," said Madam Aubrey and she greeted Magnus.

"Grandma, how are you doing?" Alora asked.

"Good," Madam Aubrey replied. "However, your sister’s absence from the house has left the atmosphere here quiet." She took her seat next to Rhea and asked her if she sent the sweets for Venus.

"Yes, I have sent them in the morning," Rhea told her mother-in-law.

"Why does it feel that discrimination still exists in the veins of Alora’s grandmother? Why did you not send those same sweets for Alora?" Magnus questioned her when Alora grabbed her hand.

"Alora doesn’t like sweets made of rice, Your Highness," Madam Aubrey replied. She didn’t like the fact that Magnus loved to point his finger at her for every single thing.

"You care only for your two grandchildren. It makes me mad for some reason," Magnus said. The tension between them rose.

"Magnus, let’s go to my room. I am tired," Alora intervened as she didn’t wish the matter to escalate further. She pulled him up along with her. "Take me to my room," she requested him.

Magnus hummed and walked away with her.

Once they left, Madam Aubrey asked Rhea, "Are they going to stay here?"

"Only Alora will be here till tomorrow night. It is a blood moon tomorrow, so Prince Magnus has brought her here. She shouldn’t stay around the vampires tomorrow," Rhea explained.

"I see. Prince Magnus can read thoughts. Let’s not anger him in any way. What does Alora like to eat? I’ll cook it for her," Madam Aubrey stated.

Rhea was surprised to hear that. But before she could speak, Madam Aubrey clarified to her, "I only want our family to be protected from the eyes of a vampire."

Rhea nodded at her. "Mother, you should even try to converse with Alora. She will love it if you talk to her," she suggested.

Madam Aubrey didn’t refuse to do it. "I wonder how Venus is doing? She didn’t communicate with us after her marriage. Send a message to her saying we were missing her." She instructed Rhea and prayed everything was well with her.
