Chapter 408: Guided it to her chest

Learning the brutality of Izaak’s past had left Melody’s heart heavy with sorrow. She had fought to hold back her tears in his presence, not wanting to burden him with her emotions or make him feel responsible for her sadness. Yet now, as she sat in the stillness of her chamber, the weight of it all became too much to bear.

She wiped away the tears that slipped down her cheeks, her fingers trembling slightly as she sat near the window, bathed in the soft glow of the crescent moonlight.

It was in these quiet moments, away from Izaak’s gaze, that her sorrow poured out without any restraint. She couldn’t stop thinking about everything he had endured, the betrayals, yet he never stopped loving.

"Why did they do this to him?" she murmured to herself. "Is the throne really worth more than a person? More than a heart that could have been so full of love?" She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand, trying to rid herself of the burning sadness that lingered inside her.

She turned her gaze out the window, looking up at the crescent-shaped moon hanging high in the night sky. The moonlight seemed to cast a serene glow.

Closing her eyes, she prayed silently, her lips moving faintly in the moon’s reflection. ’Please, give him peace. Give him the strength to overcome what has been done to him. Let him find joy again, somehow... Give me strength that I can always bring love to him.’ The prayer was simple, but the sincerity in her heart gave it weight.

"Your Highness, it’s time for dinner. The King requests everyone to gather in the dining hall," Freya, the attendant, announced softly as she stood at the doorway, her posture respectful and poised.

Melody turned her head slightly, acknowledging the message with a nod. "Thank you, Freya. I’ll be down shortly," she replied, her voice steady despite the turmoil in her heart.

Freya bowed gracefully, her eyes lowering in deference. "Of course, Your Highness. I shall leave you to prepare," she said before stepping out of the chamber, her footsteps barely audible as she closed the door quietly behind her.

Melody went to the washroom she splashed cool water onto her tear-streaked face.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror for a moment, the water droplets clinging to her skin. Grabbing a soft towel, she gently dabbed her face dry.

Once ready, Melody headed out only to find Izaak was just outside the chamber.

"I thought we should walk together for the dining hall," Izaak stated with a smile.

Melody smiled back and walked along with him. "Don’t overthink about my past. I know you’ve silently cried since your eyes are a bit puffy," he said in a low voice. "Magnus told me one thing not long ago. I will find a right person for me at the right time." His hand grasped hers as he continued, "And it’s you."

"I won’t do any promises because I want to prove through my actions to Prince Izaak how much I love him," Melody said.

"I trust you. I can see the love in your eyes, in your words and the smallest of your actions," Izaak asserted.

Melody tightened her grip on his hand and smiled slowly.

Venus pushed open the door of her room before her feet lifted off the floor, her back pressing against the now-closed door with a thud. Her eyes widened, but she immediately knew it was Odin. His arms wrapped around her tightly as his lips crashed against hers in a fervent kiss, leaving no space for protest.

With vampiric speed, Odin carried her effortlessly to the bed, his body pressing down on hers with an undeniable intensity. His lips moved with hunger, refusing to part from hers as if he had been starving for this moment.

His kiss was all-consuming, igniting a fire between them that neither could ignore. If he had to describe how he felt in one word, it would be ’hungry’.

Venus pressed her palms against Odin’s chest, moaning softly as she pushed him back, gasping for air. "Odin, wa-wait," she murmured, glancing toward the door to make sure it was fully closed.

"No one is around," Odin whispered, his fingers gently gripping her chin and tilting her face back toward his, forcing her to meet his intense gaze.

"You’re insane, Odin," Venus chuckled softly, her breath still uneven.

"Yes, for you," he replied, his voice sincere and unwavering.

Her smile widened, warmth blooming in her chest at his words. "We aren’t married yet. So, you need to wait a little," she whispered, her tone gentle but firm as she sought his understanding.

Odin’s brows furrowed slightly, though he nodded in agreement. "Is marriage really important to become one? I believe if we’ve accepted each other in our hearts, that’s all that matters. But I respect your decision." His voice was calm, though his restraint was palpable. Leaving her like this was harder than he wanted to admit.

Before he could pull away completely, Venus locked her arms around his neck, pulling him back to her. "Well... you know I’ve never done anything like this before, even with my former husband. I-I’m just shy... a bit. But yes, I’ve accepted you as my husband from the bottom of my heart."

Her voice trembled slightly with the confession, and the vulnerability in her words caused Odin’s gaze to soften. He placed his hand on her cheek, his thumb brushing against her skin as he leaned his forehead against hers. "I understood. Blame my vampiric nature to be like this," he whispered with adoration.

"I like seeing this side of you," Venus whispered, her voice soft but laced with desire. Without waiting for a reply, she leaned in and captured his lips in a kiss that was anything but gentle. What began as a tentative exchange turned into something much more heated, urgent, and consuming.

Odin’s hands gripped her waist as he pulled her closer, and their kiss deepened. Venus let go of her shyness, the usual restraint that had held her back. Her fingers tangled in his hair as she pressed herself against him, their bodies melding together as if they’d done this countless times before.

Venus broke the kiss momentarily, her chest rising and falling heavily as she gasped for air. She hesitated, but then, feeling the strength of their connection, she took Odin’s hand and gently guided it to her chest.

Her heart pounded beneath his palm, and for the first time, her touch was free of hesitation. It was a gesture of complete trust and surrender.

Odin’s eyes, darkened with desire, met hers as he felt the rapid beat of her heart beneath his fingers. His lips curved into a slight smile.

"Venus," he murmured, his voice low and rough, "I’ve never seen you like this." His thumb brushed against the fabric of her dress where her heartbeat was strongest, and she shuddered in response.
