Chapter 399: I dare to dream
"Ah, Melody, we truly had no desire to delay this marriage, but it seems circumstances have left us no choice," Queen Margaret said gently, patting Melody’s hands in reassurance.
"I understand, Your Majesty. The situation in the North is undoubtedly of great urgency," Melody replied graciously, her voice calm. "I’m not in a rush. I can wait as long as necessary."
Just then, Izaak entered the chamber, halting his steps upon seeing them. "Mother? I didn’t expect you here—I thought you’d be preoccupied with Lillian’s wedding preparations." He bowed respectfully before approaching.
Queen Margaret gave him a warm smile. "I came to inform Melody of the unavoidable delay," she explained, rising gracefully from her seat. "I shall take my leave now. The two of you can speak in private." With that, she exited the room, leaving them alone to talk.
"Mother has already spoken to you, I see," Izaak remarked, his gaze softening as he looked at Melody.
"Yes," Melody replied with a gentle smile. "But I’m not in a rush. I understand the immense responsibilities Prince Izaak must bear. Still," she hesitated for a moment, "I will miss Your Highness. Spending an entire month apart will be difficult," she confessed.
Izaak’s fingers brushed lightly across her cheek, a tender gesture. "That’s why I’ve decided to take you with me."
Melody’s eyes widened, her voice almost breathless. "For real?"
"Yes," he confirmed with a small smile. "I think it’s time for you to explore the vampire world with me. You’ve spent so long in the palace, I imagine you’re restless. This trip to the North will be a change of scenery—for both of us."
"I hope I won’t interfere with Your Highness’s duties," Melody said, a hint of concern in her voice.
"You won’t," Izaak assured her confidently.
Melody’s smile grew, her excitement shining through. "I’ve never ventured far beyond the palace, except for a brief trip when I was very young. I’m eager to embark on this journey with Prince Izaak."
"It will be an adventure," Izaak murmured, his hands sliding to her lower back as he gently pulled her closer. His nose brushed against hers, and their lips hovered inches apart, the air between them charged with affection.
"Melody," he whispered, "in my eyes, we are already married."
"And I, too, consider Your Highness my husband," Melody whispered back.
Izaak leaned in, capturing her lips in a tender, lingering kiss as he pulled her closer, their bodies gently pressed together. The warmth of his embrace enveloped her, and for a moment, it felt as though time had stopped. His lips moved softly against hers, his voice a low murmur between kisses.
"I haven’t allowed myself to dream too much about us," he admitted, his breath warm against her skin, "because I fear what happens when I dare to dream for myself. But I know, deep down, we will be a great couple, Melody."
Melody gently pulled away, her face flushed with a fluttering feeling, her hands instinctively rising to cradle her cheeks as if to hold onto the warmth of the kiss. Her eyes met his, filled with a tenderness that spoke of her unwavering affection.
"But I have dreamt about us... countless times," she murmured, her voice soft and filled with quiet certainty. "I’ve imagined a long life together, full of love, adventure, and happiness. We will have kids, who will run around us, complete our family."
The depth of her love reflected in her gaze, as if she could already see the life they were destined to share.
"That’s beautiful," Izaak murmured, his voice full of admiration as he gazed at her. Without waiting for another word, he kissed her deeply, his lips claiming hers with a passion that left no room for hesitation.
The kiss was more intense this time, their tongues moving together in a seamless, fervent rhythm, as if they had always known this dance.
In the heat of the moment, Izaak gently guided Melody backward, and before she realized it, her body sank into the softness of the bed.
Her eyes shot open in surprise as she felt the plush mattress beneath her, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she pulled him closer to her. She kept kissing him, her fingers trailing up and down his strong arms, tracing the defined muscles that flexed beneath her touch.
Her hands wandered to his chest, feeling the rapid, pounding beats of his heart through the fabric of his shirt. It beat just as wildly as hers. She reveled in the warmth of his body, her fingertips exploring every inch of him.
Izaak, sensing her growing desire, deepened the kiss further, his body hovering over hers protectively yet tenderly. His hand slid down to cradle her face, fingers brushing through her hair as he kissed her deeper.
Finally, when their lungs screamed for air, they slowly pulled apart, their lips lingering as they parted, reluctant to break the connection.
"I love Your Highness," she said while taking deep breaths.
"Me too, Melody." Izaak’s breath was warm against her skin as he trailed soft, feather-light kisses along her chin, making her shiver with anticipation. His fingers, deft and deliberate, began to work at the fabric of her gown, pushing it up with one hand as the other traced a path down her leg.
The coolness of his touch sent a shockwave through Melody’s body, and she gasped, arching her back instinctively as his hand traveled from her leg to her thigh, his fingertips leaving a trail of heat in their wake. Her pulse quickened as his lips found the hollow of her neck, pressing kisses that made her breath catch in her throat.
Izaak’s touch grew bolder, his hand on her thigh inching higher while the other moved with practiced ease, loosening the knots of her gown. The fabric slipped from her shoulders, revealing more of her bare skin to the night. His lips ventured lower, finding the delicate space just below her collarbone, where he planted soft, lingering kisses.
