Chapter 398: Elliot is back

Chapter 398: Elliot is back

Alora was playing chess alone, her focus on the board, when suddenly a hand reached over and moved the knight, capturing one of her white pawns. She looked up, startled, and her eyes widened in disbelief.

"Elliot!" she gasped, jumping out of her seat and throwing her arms around her younger brother.

Elliot returned the embrace but paused, sensing something off. Her warmth was gone, and there was no trace of the familiar human scent. His eyes narrowed in realization as he gently pushed her back to look at her. "You’re not human anymore."

Alora smiled softly. "No, I’m not. It’s a long story... I’ve become a vampire, like you." Her gaze shifted over him, noticing his build. "But look at you! You’ve grown so strong... I can sense it."

Elliot nodded. "I’ve been working hard."

"Have you been home yet?" Alora asked. "Last I heard, Magnus mentioned you might not be able to stay there at night. Odin said he’d take you to his place."

"I haven’t been home," Elliot admitted. "I wanted to come here first. I owe Prince Magnus my thanks for helping me that day. But seeing you here—well, this is the best surprise." He hesitated, his brow furrowed in confusion. "But why do you still look so human? I thought it took women a year to fully transform into vampires. What happened? How is this possible?"

Before Alora could answer, a deep voice cut through the room. "Your late grandmother had a hand in it," Magnus said, striding in with Tobias following closely behind, his presence commanding as always.

Elliot immediately turned and greeted both Magnus and Tobias with respect.

Magnus approached and placed a reassuring hand on Elliot’s shoulder. "Welcome to Velaris," he said, before letting his hand drop.

Elliot’s face paled at Magnus’s words. "Thank you. Did my grandmother... passed away?" He looked between them in shock. "What happened? Why didn’t anyone tell me? And how is she involved in Sister Alora’s this form?" His confusion grew, as his eyes searched theirs for answers.

Magnus sighed and motioned for everyone to sit. Once they were settled on the sofa, he began to explain the situation, his voice was both calm and firm.

"Your grandmother made choices driven by hatred, Elliot. She joined hands with an enemy," Magnus said, his gaze steady. "In the end, I had no choice but to kill her."

Elliot’s fists clenched as he looked down, trying to process the news. "How could she...?" His voice was low, trembling with suppressed anger.

Alora reached out, gently placing her hand on his arm. "I know it’s hard to accept. What she did wasn’t just out of hatred for Magnus... but out of her own bitterness. Father was devastated. She didn’t care for him, not even once."

Elliot’s face tightened, the swirl of emotions clear in his expression. "I just hoped it wouldn’t come to this..."

"No one could have stopped her," Alora continued softly. "I wish it could have been different, but there was no other way."

Elliot nodded slowly, his eyes hardening. "She did wrong. And she got the punishment she deserved for it."

"You should go home now. Your parents need you more," Magnus suggested, his tone gentle yet firm. Alora nodded, giving Elliot an encouraging smile.

"Yes, I’ll leave now," Elliot agreed, standing up. "But I’ll come to see you again, Sister Alora."

"I’ll be waiting," Alora responded warmly, her smile bright.

Magnus gestured to Tobias, who bowed respectfully before leading Elliot toward the exit. As the door closed behind them, Magnus turned his attention back to Alora, a hint of amusement playing on his lips.

"You were playing chess... all by yourself?" he mused.

Alora grinned. "Yes, I thought I’d practice alone so that one day I could finally defeat you."

Magnus chuckled softly, but before he could respond, Alora’s expression shifted. "Elliot is back," she said, her smile widening. "My family feels whole again."

Magnus wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her gently toward him. Her head rested comfortably on his shoulder as he held her close.

"Izaak’s marriage has been delayed," Magnus remarked after a brief silence.

Alora immediately lifted her head, her brow furrowed in concern. "What? Why?"

"Father wants him to take charge of the situation at the Northern Border," Magnus explained. "Something’s brewing between the werewolves and vampires."

Alora’s worry deepened. "Is it serious?"

"It is," Magnus confirmed. "The minimum time he’ll need to be there is a month, but it could take much longer." He sighed, his gaze distant as he thought about the potential dangers.

"What about Melody then?" Alora asked, her concern evident. "They both will miss each other terribly."

Magnus leaned back slightly, his expression thoughtful. "Izaak did mention the possibility of taking her with him to the Northern Border, but I’m not sure how practical that would be, given the situation. It’s a conflict zone, and the dangers are real. I don’t think it’s the best place for her."

Alora sighed, her fingers lightly tracing the edge of the chessboard. "Problems seem to arise out of nowhere, don’t they? One minute, everything seems fine, and the next, there’s chaos."

Magnus nodded in agreement. "That’s the nature of our world. Peace is always fragile."

Alora’s gaze shifted to him, her expression thoughtful. "And what about Sister Lillian’s marriage? Is there any news on that?"

Magnus’s eyes softened slightly. "I think her wedding will take place soon. Father and Mother don’t want to delay it any longer. They’ve already started making arrangements."

Alora smiled at the thought. "That’s good to hear. Sister Lillian has always been eager to get married after meeting Lewis. She’s been talking about it for weeks now, dreaming about her wedding day."

Magnus chuckled softly. "Yes, she has. And I think it will be a grand celebration, just as she’s always wanted. Our parents are determined to make sure it happens without delay."

"She’ll be happy," Alora said, her smile warm. "And I think it will be nice to have something joyous amidst all this uncertainty."

"Indeed," Magnus agreed. "We could all use a reason to celebrate."
