Chapter 375: Odin’s Confession 2
As the boat thudded softly against the dock, Venus took a step back, her eyes wide with astonishment as she touched her lips, her gaze locked onto Odin’s.
"Sir, the—" The sailor began, but Odin silenced him with a simple gesture.
"I know you feel the same," Odin’s voice was low, almost a whisper, yet it carried the weight of months of unspoken feelings. "I’ve seen it—the way your heart races when we’re close, the way your breath hitches, and the spark in your eyes. Let’s end this charade, Venus. Let’s stop pretending we’re enemies when we both know it’s more than that. I want us to be together, not as enemies anymore, but as lovers."
There were so many things Odin wanted to say, emotions he had never fully understood or expressed. The words felt clumsy on his tongue, incomplete, as if they couldn’t capture the depth of what he truly felt for her. Perhaps it was because love had been absent from his life for so long that he struggled to articulate it now.
Venus hesitated for a moment, doubt flickering in her eyes. "Do you really think I’m suitable for you?" Her voice was soft, laced with uncertainty. How could she not doubt? Love had always brought her more pain than joy, leaving behind nothing but bitter memories.
Odin’s expression grew serious as he stepped closer. "I don’t think there’s anyone more suitable for me than you, Venus. No one else challenges me the way you do. You’ve kept me on edge, made me think, made me feel—things I’ve long forgotten. You occupy my thoughts, my heart. I can’t imagine a life without you in it. I’ve never apologized to anyone for my actions. But to you, I did. That’s you’ve turned me into. If I’ll stay away from you, I’ll go mad," Odin asserted, revealing more of his buried feelings.
Venus giggled, lowering her eyes before meeting Odin’s confused gaze. "I can’t believe I’ve swayed your heart, Odin," she said with a smile.
Odin returned her smile, though it was tinged with a hint of disbelief. "Well, even I can’t believe it," he admitted, his voice softening. He then straightened, a determined look crossing his face. "Say it now," he demanded.
"Say what?" Venus arched her eyebrows, feigning ignorance.
"That you love me," Odin stated, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Venus chuckled, crossing her arms across her chest. Her gaze softened as she failed to suppress the smile tugging at her lips.
"Don’t look at me that way," Odin muttered, glancing past her to the crowd of people eagerly waiting for their turn to board the boat.
"Why? Does my gaze stir your insides?" Venus teased, her voice light and playful as she pointed her index finger to the left side of his chest, right where his heart was beating.
Odin grasped her hand, pulling her close in one smooth motion. The boat wobbled gently beneath them, causing a flicker of fear to flash in her eyes.
"Do you enjoy playing with me like this?" Odin mused, his breath warm against her nose and upper lip. His closeness made her heart to skip a beat.
As the murmurs of the waiting crowd grew louder, Venus glanced around and then turned back to Odin. "Let’s get off the boat first," she suggested.
"Not until you answer me," Odin replied firmly, his voice leaving no room for negotiation. "Everyone can wait."
Venus looked at him again, taken aback by the possessiveness and restlessness in his eyes. It was a side of him she hadn’t fully seen before, and it stirred something deep within her.
"The first time my heart fluttered for you was at Serena’s wedding when you stood up for me," Venus began, her voice softening as she recalled the memory. "The second time was when you saved me from Eugene’s cousin. From that moment on, I started liking you. But I never allowed myself to imagine being with you because I always thought you saw me as a vicious, heartless woman."
Odin’s expression softened, regret filling his eyes. "I apologize for that. I should never have hurt you. It fills me with guilt and sorrow," he said quickly, his sincerity evident. He was ready to change, to be softer, more understanding, for her.
Venus shook her head slightly. "Don’t apologize. You were the only person who was truly honest with me, who made me realize that ego can consume a person from the inside out. If it weren’t for you, I might have fallen into despair. I genuinely like you, Odin, and I would love to be your woman," she confessed her true feelings.
Odin’s stern demeanor melted away, replaced by a tender smile as Venus’s words sank in. Without hesitation, he reached out to help her off the boat, his touch gentle yet firm. As they stepped onto the deck, Odin’s hand naturally found hers, his fingers intertwining with hers in a way that felt both protective and intimate. It was a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes, grounding him in the moment. For the first time in a long while, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction, his heartbeat steadying from the turmoil it had been in moments before.
Venus couldn’t help but tilt her head to look at him, her eyes filled with a mix of wonder and contentment. It felt almost surreal, like she was living in a dream where, for the first time, she had someone she could truly rely on.
The man beside her wasn’t just another fleeting presence; he was someone who would protect her, stand by her, and even love her without reservation.
Unlike Eugene who had showered her with empty flattery and superficial charm, Odin was sincere in his feelings, grounded in a reality that Venus had long yearned for but never truly believed she would find.
As they walked side by side, through the crowded market, Venus realized that this moment, this connection, was what she had been searching for all along.
It wasn’t the grand gestures or the superficial words that mattered; it was the quiet strength in Odin’s eyes that made her feel, for the first time, truly seen and cherished. She squeezed his hand lightly, silently thanking him for being the person she never knew she needed but now couldn’t imagine being without.
