Chapter 372: Ambermoon Festival 5
Serena clenched her fists, trying to contain her anger as she stood before Venus. She didn’t want to make a scene, especially not in the presence of a noble vampire. With a tight smile, she finally said, "Please forgive me," her voice strained with forced humility.
"Swear that you won’t ridicule another woman again," Odin commanded sternly, his eyes cold and unyielding.
Swallowing her pride, Serena complied, choking on the humiliation. "I swear," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Venus offered her a serene smile. "I forgive you."
Unable to bear the tension any longer, Serena brushed past them, her face flushed with embarrassment. But before she could escape, Odin’s voice cut through the air like a knife.
"If I hear you’ve spoken ill of Miss Venus again, I won’t hesitate to inform your husband. I don’t care what consequences you face then," he warned, his tone icy.
Serena froze momentarily, feeling the weight of his threat before rushing inside, her bitterness nearly overwhelming her.
Once she was gone, Venus turned her gaze to Odin, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Why did you do that?" she asked, her voice soft but questioning.
Odin’s reply was sharp and unwavering. "Do you expect me to stand by and allow injustice?" Without waiting for a response, he strode ahead, leaving her to trail behind.
Venus hurried to match his pace, her steps quickening as she called after him, "Sometimes staying silent is wiser."
Odin’s voice was a low murmur, almost to himself. "You were hiding behind me," he muttered, more to the wind than to her.
"I wasn’t. I just didn’t want to create unnecessary drama," Venus murmured, pouting her lips in mild defiance.
Odin suddenly halted, his intense gaze locking onto hers. "Never let anyone trample on your dignity," he pressed in his firm voice.
"I won’t," Venus assured him, softening her tone. "Now, don’t spoil the festival mood," she added with a playful smile, tugging him forward.
The two spent the rest of the day enjoying the festival, wandering through the bustling market stalls, sampling treats, and laughing together. As evening approached, the crowd thickened, and the market became even more lively.
"Don’t you want to head home?" Odin asked, noticing the growing throng of people.
"But the firecrackers haven’t been set off yet. I should at least stay for that," Venus replied, a hint of excitement in her eyes.
"Your parents will be worried. You can always ask them to let you come back tomorrow. I’ll accompany you for the evening then," Odin suggested, his tone both caring and practical.
Venus arched an eyebrow at him. "But you’re here tonight. How is that any different?"
"It is different because you promised your parents you’d return home early," Odin reminded her gently. "They’ll be worried if you don’t."
Venus paused, thinking for a moment before her face lit up with an idea. "I’ll send the chauffeur home with a message that I’m with you. That way, they won’t worry. You can bring me home yourself," she suggested, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Odin smiled at the cleverness of her plan but still shook his head, a hint of reluctance lingering in his expression.
"Why? What’s the problem now?" Venus frowned. "What if I couldn’t make it tomorrow? That’s why I wish to do it now," she stated.
Odin’s gaze softened, and with a slight nod, he allowed her to have her way this time. Venus beamed with a smile as they made their way out of the bustling market, where carriages were lined up, and chauffeurs engaged in casual conversation.
Upon seeing Miss Venus approach, her chauffeur quickly stepped forward. "Please go home and inform my parents that I’ll be late. They don’t need to worry since Lord Odin is with me," Venus instructed, her voice calm yet authoritative. The chauffeur bowed respectfully before climbing into the carriage, ready to deliver the message to the Wilson Residence.
As the carriage pulled away, Odin’s lips curled into an amused smile. "You called me Lord Odin," he remarked, his tone teasing.
"Yes, I did. It seems you even have a problem accepting respect from me," Venus retorted playfully.
Odin chuckled softly. "It’s just hard to believe sometimes," he said as they strolled back towards the heart of the market.
"Odin, tell me something. Why aren’t you married yet?" Venus asked, her curiosity piqued as they walked through the bustling market.
Odin glanced at her, his expression unreadable. "You really want to know?"
"Yes. That’s why I asked," Venus replied, meeting his gaze with a hint of playful insistence.
He sighed, his eyes momentarily distant. "I had someone, long ago. But when my family and the woman I loved died, I couldn’t find it in myself to be attracted to anyone else."
Venus was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise. She had always seen Odin as a man of unyielding strength, almost invincible, but to learn that he had endured such profound loss left her stunned. The man of iron had once suffered deeply, and the revelation softened her view of him.
"I’m sorry to hear that," Venus murmured softly, her voice tinged with empathy.
Odin shook his head slightly. "It doesn’t bother me anymore. In fact, I think I’ve found someone new."
Venus’s eyes widened in surprise. "Really? Who?" she asked, her fingers nervously fidgeting together. She hadn’t expected Odin to be in love with someone already.
A faint smile played on Odin’s lips as he answered, "She’s kind of a crazy woman."
Venus looked at him in confusion. "Why are you drawn to someone like that?" she asked, her brow furrowing as she tried to understand.
Odin chuckled. "Because she’s unpredictable, keeps me on my toes, and somehow, she’s managed to break through my defenses," he said while deeply peering into her eyes.
"You are strange," Venus muttered, shaking her head in disbelief. "You can’t keep a woman like that in your life. She might drive you crazy too. I don’t understand your choices sometimes."
Odin arched an amused brow. "Then why don’t you introduce me to someone more suitable?" he teased, a playful glint in his eyes.
