Chapter 355: Odin’s doing

"Why are you so quiet since yesterday?" Norman asked his daughter as they sat at the breakfast table. He couldn’t help but notice that Venus hadn’t even touched her food, something that puzzled him and Rhea alike.

"Is something bothering you, dear?" Rhea asked, her voice laced with concern.

Venus shook her head, forcing a small smile. "No, it’s nothing like that," she replied. "I just don’t have much of an appetite today."

Norman frowned, his worry deepening as he looked at her. "No appetite? That’s not like you, Venus. Maybe I should call the physician to have you checked. You’re already so thin; you can’t afford to skip meals," he said, his eyes searching hers for any sign of what might be wrong.

Venus sighed softly, trying to ease her father’s concern. "Father, there’s no need for that," she reassured him. "You’re forgetting that I ate a lot last night. That’s why I’m still full this morning," she added, hoping the explanation would put his mind at ease.

"Then, you won’t have your breakfast?" Norman asked, his concern evident in his tone.

"No, I’ll eat later," Venus replied softly before excusing herself from the table.

Both Norman and Rhea watched as she walked away, the silence between them heavy with unspoken worry. Finally, Norman turned to Rhea, his voice filled with unease. "Something is definitely wrong with her."

Rhea nodded slowly. "Ever since she came back from the market yesterday, she’s seemed... different, almost as if she’s lost in her thoughts."

Norman’s expression darkened with concern. "Do you think someone said something hurtful to her again?"

Rhea sighed, her heart heavy. "I wish I knew, My Lord. But I have no idea what could have happened," she admitted, her voice tinged with sadness. "All I want is for her to have a happy life, but it seems like God isn’t showing any mercy on our poor Venus," she added, her tone filled with deep worry.

"She’s young, Rhea. I do think when Venus sees the young women of her age, she may get upset. How long are we going to see her like this? Why don’t you talk to her and make her understand to move on?" Norman suggested to her.

"I already did that, My Lord. However, Venus refused for that," Rhea asserted.

"Hmm." Norman furrowed his brows together. "I wish someone could read our daughter’s thoughts and tell us what exactly is in her mind. Perhaps, then we could have helped her in better way," he opined.

"If Prince Magnus comes the next time here, I will ask him," Rhea assured her husband and the two resumed eating.

Venus paced back and forth in her room, her mind racing with thoughts that had consumed her since the previous day. The kiss from Odin had left her bewildered, and she couldn’t stop replaying it in her head.

Why would he kiss her if he thought of her as an enemy? Why did he push her to see things as either a werewolf or a human? And that grin at the end—it only added to her confusion.

"Agh!" she groaned, almost clutching her head in frustration. "At this rate, I’m going to drive myself insane," she murmured, her feet suddenly freezing in place. A new thought crept into her mind, one that she hadn’t considered before. "What if he actually likes me and is just pretending not to?"

For a brief moment, the idea seemed plausible, but she quickly shook it off. "No, Odin would never like me. Not after everything I have done in the past. I know him too well," she muttered, her voice laced with certainty. Yet, the one thing she couldn’t wrap her mind around was his relentless teasing. "But why the unnecessary teasing?" she wondered aloud, her thoughts spiraling once more.

Finally, she slumped onto the bed, her energy spent. With a heavy sigh, she stared up at the ceiling, her mind racing to find a way to unravel the mystery of what Odin truly wanted from her.

Her racing thoughts came to an abrupt halt when she heard a knock on the door. Curious, Venus walked over and opened it to find a servant standing before her.

"Miss Venus, someone delivered this letter for you. He said it’s from a well-wisher," the servant informed her.

Venus frowned in confusion, her mind immediately swirling with questions. A letter from an unknown well-wisher? She thanked the servant, took the letter, and closed the door behind her before returning to her bed. Her thoughts went to Eugene’s relatives, wondering if this could be from one of those narcissistic wolves who refused to leave her alone. She hated the idea of being chased by them yet again.

For a moment, she nearly tore the letter in half without reading it, but something made her pause. Instead, she unfolded it and began to read.

"So, did you sleep well last night? I hope you did. I liked the milk cakes your mother made especially for me. I wish you were more like your mother! Alas, you aren’t!"

Venus chuckled as she recognized the tone and words. There was no mistaking it—this was Odin’s doing. Even when he wasn’t physically present, he found ways to get under her skin, leaving no opportunity wasted to make her feel small.

"My well-wisher? What a joke!" Venus scoffed, crumpling the letter in her hand. "Odin, you’ve messed with the wrong woman," she muttered, her eyes narrowing with determination. "Now, I’m going to make sure your nights are a living hell."

With that, she got off the bed, a newfound resolve burning within her. She looked at herself in the mirror, making sure she looked good. After putting on her heels, she ran downstairs in a haste.

"Venus, where are you heading to in such a hurry?" Rhea asked worriedly, who happened to cross the living room.

"Mother, I need to go out. I will see you later," Venus said.

"Eh? Wait~" Rhea’s words trailed off as Venus ran outside the house.
