Chapter 354: My Alora is my soul
Alora entered the chamber with a light, joyful bounce in her step, her face lit up with excitement. She was eager to share the news she had just heard, but as soon as she stepped inside, she spotted Magnus lounging on the chaise, his eyes closed, appearing as though he was resting.
Her initial enthusiasm softened into a mischievous smile. Seeing him so relaxed, she couldn’t resist the urge to playfully scare him. Carefully, she moved closer, her footsteps light and deliberate, trying her best to remain silent as she approached him.
Just as she reached his side, thinking she had the upper hand, Magnus’s eyes snapped open, and with lightning reflexes, he reached out, his hand closing around her wrist. In one swift motion, he pulled her down onto the chaise beside him.
A surprised gasp escaped Alora’s lips as she tumbled onto the chaise, landing next to him. Her heart raced from the sudden movement, her earlier plan to scare him now completely forgotten. She looked up at him, wide-eyed, as a playful grin spread across Magnus’s face.
"Did you really think you could sneak up on me, Alora?" Magnus teased, a playful glint in his eyes as he straightened his posture, towering over her with an effortless grace. His voice carried a note of amusement, as if her attempts at stealth had been nothing more than a game to him.
As he leaned closer, the space between them vanished, and his other hand gently brushed away the loose strands of hair that had fallen across her face. The touch was tender, almost electrifying, as his fingers lingered near her temple.
Alora, however, was not easily distracted. "What was the work that kept you so long?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of concern.
Magnus hesitated for a moment, then replied, "I met Damien."
"And?" Alora’s eyes searched his, seeking the truth beneath his words.
"Nothing," Magnus said, his tone suddenly flat and devoid of the earlier playfulness. "He will be executed tomorrow morning."
Alora narrowed her eyes, sensing there was more to the story. "Don’t hide from me, Magnus. What did you find out?" she pressed, her voice firm and unyielding.
Magnus sighed, realizing that he could never keep anything from her. "Damien killed my aunt," Magnus confessed, his voice heavy with the weight of the memory. The usual strength in his demeanor seemed to falter for a moment. "He has a dark ability—he can look into people’s saddest moments and use them against them as their weakness."
Alora’s heart clenched at his words, her concern for him deepening. "Did he... did he by any chance look into your saddest moment?" she asked softly, her eyes searching his for any sign of distress.
Magnus shook his head, his expression resolute. "No. There was no sad moment," he replied, though his voice held a certain detachment, as if trying to distance himself from the pain.
Alora’s gaze softened as she studied him, her voice gentle yet firm. "But your aunt’s death... it has always weighed on you, Magnus. It’s been like a shadow, a setback you’ve never fully escaped from."
Magnus looked away, unable to meet her eyes for a moment. The truth in her words was undeniable, and it struck a chord deep within him. But he had buried that pain long ago, determined not to let it define him.
Alora gently placed her hand on Magnus’s right cheek, her fingers tenderly caressing his skin. "I think Damien couldn’t see your saddest memory because you’ve grown so strong, or maybe you’ve learned to stay neutral to anything that comes your way. But remember, it wasn’t Prince Magnus’s fault that he couldn’t save his aunt," she whispered, her voice soft and soothing, offering him the comfort he hadn’t realized he needed.
Magnus met her gaze, her warmth and understanding breaking through the walls he had built around his heart. He nodded, the tension in his shoulders easing just a bit. "Alora," he began, his voice steady but filled with a deep sincerity, "the reason I stopped focusing on relationships, on the people around me, was because I feared it would hurt more than the pain from the ashwood. If you hadn’t stepped into my lonely world, I don’t think I would have become the man I am today." His words were laden with gratitude, acknowledging that it was Alora who had breathed life back into him when he had thought it impossible.
Alora’s smile widened, her eyes lighting up with a tender glow that seemed almost magical. "I’ll never leave you, Magnus. Even in the afterlife, we’ll be together. I promise," she vowed, her voice steady and sure, as if sealing a bond that went beyond the physical world.
"I know," Magnus replied, his voice thick with emotion as he reached up to cup her face in his hands. He leaned in, his lips meeting hers in a kiss that spoke of everything he felt—gratitude, love, and the silent promise that he would never let her go.
As they slowly pulled away from the kiss, Magnus kept his gaze locked on Alora’s eyes, the intensity in his expression softening into something more profound. "I think you’ve erased the saddest moments from my life," he said, his voice tender yet unwavering. "Because of you, I’ve started believing in everything again. Love seems like too small a word to capture what I feel for you. My Alora is my soul, and without her, Magnus is empty."
Alora’s smile grew, her heart swelling with happiness. Magnus’s words touched her deeply, affirming that he saw her not as a burden, but as the light that had guided him out of the darkness. "That’s deep," she murmured, her smile widening as warmth spread through her chest.
"And you are my salvation, Magnus," Alora continued, her voice filled with conviction. "Without Magnus, Alora is nothing."
She kissed his cheek tenderly and smiled once again at him. "There will no longer be any sadness as long as we are together," Alora stated with a determined gaze.
