Chapter 352: Wanted to see you dead
Venus stormed out of the bar, but she came to an abrupt halt when Odin suddenly appeared in front of her, blocking her path. He stood there, arching an eyebrow as his eyes fell on the basket she still clutched tightly in her hands.
"Isn’t this for me?" Odin asked, his tone was calm but curious.
"No!" Venus snapped, her voice sharp with lingering anger. She pushed past him, trying to brush off his question. "Now, get out of my way."
But Odin didn’t move. Instead, a small, amused smile played on his lips. "So, you entered the forbidden territory for no reason?" he mused. He then chuckled softly, as if the situation was more entertaining to him than it should have been.
Venus’s eyes narrowed in frustration. "It wasn’t for no reason," she retorted, trying to maintain her dignity. But the humiliation she faced inside was something that infuriated her more.
Odin’s chuckle faded, and he studied her with a more serious expression, sensing the deeper emotions behind her sharp words. "You knew the risk, yet you came here anyway," he said softly. "Why?"
"You tell me first," she demanded, her voice trembling with the intensity of her anger and hurt. "Why didn’t you help me inside? Did you enjoy the show?" Her chest heaved with each breath, and her eyes glistened with unshed tears, on the verge of spilling over.
Odin’s expression remained impassive, his gaze steady as he met her accusing eyes. "Well, I don’t help foolish humans," he replied coldly, his voice devoid of empathy. He reached out to take the basket from her, his hand closing around its wooden handle.
But before he could pull it away, Venus slapped the back of his hand with a sharp, angry motion. "Did you just call me foolish?" she demanded, her voice cracking as she sought an answer. The sting of his remark cut deep, reopening the wounds of her earlier humiliation.
Odin didn’t flinch, though the slap stung his pride. Instead, he looked at her with a calm, unyielding expression. "An indication is enough for the intelligent," he asserted.
Venus let out a bitter chuckle and pushed Odin away with more force this time, determined to put some distance between them. But before she could fully step back, Odin’s hand shot out, grabbing her arm with a firm grip. Without warning, he dragged her toward the empty garden next to the bar, the night air thick with tension.
In a swift motion, Odin pinned her against the wall, his body close to hers, his eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made her heart race. His gaze bore into her, demanding answers, refusing to let her hide behind her defiance.
"You still haven’t answered my question," Odin stated, his voice low and unyielding, as if the entire world had narrowed down to this moment between them.
Venus met his gaze, her heart pounding, but she wasn’t about to give in. "Aren’t you smart enough to know?" she retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm, though she could feel her resolve wavering under his intense stare.
A sly smile tugged at the corner of Odin’s lips as he leaned in slightly closer. "Don’t tell me you’ve started missing me," he teased, his tone mocking yet with a hint of something deeper. "You must love being taunted by me, don’t you?" His words were provocative, each syllable a deliberate challenge, but his eyes never left hers, searching for a reaction.
Venus felt her throat go dry under the weight of his gaze. Her heart hammered in her chest, a mixture of anger and something more unsettling—an awareness of the power he held over her in this moment. Refusing to let him see how much he was affecting her, she summoned her courage and shouted, "Let me go, you evil vampire!"
Her voice rang out louder than she intended, deliberately so. She wanted everyone nearby to hear, to know that Odin was holding her against her will.
Odin’s smile didn’t falter, but there was a flash of something unreadable in his eyes. He didn’t release her immediately; instead, he held her gaze for a few heartbeats longer, his grip on her arm firm but not painful.
Odin’s grip tightened slightly, and with a calculated move, he pressed his body closer to hers, leaving almost no space between them. His face inched closer, so close that Venus could feel the warmth of his breath brushing against her skin. Her pulse quickened, and despite the tension in the air, she found herself frozen, her eyes locked with his, unable to look away. Every fiber of her being was screaming at her to move, to push him away, but her body wouldn’t obey.
"Get away," Venus murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, but even she could hear the uncertainty in her tone.
Odin’s lips curled into a knowing smile. "You can admit it, you know," he whispered, his voice smooth and almost teasing. "You’ve fallen for an evil vampire like me. Your heartbeats... I heard them." His words were like a challenge, each one carefully crafted to provoke her, to force her to confront what she might be feeling.
"A woman, especially a human, would never come to a place like this, knowing the danger, unless she had a reason," Odin continued, his eyes never leaving hers. "You came here to see me, using this basket as an excuse." He leaned in even closer, his lips almost brushing her ear as he spoke, his voice dropping to a near whisper. "Venus, you can’t fall for a man who once wanted to see you dead. Do you get it?"
Before she could respond, he flicked his fingers gently on the bridge of her nose, a playful yet dismissive gesture, and then stepped back, creating a sudden void where his presence had been overwhelming just moments before.
In a swift motion, he snatched the basket from her hands, holding it up as if it were a trophy. "I’m taking this with me. Thank your mother for the milk cakes. And don’t miss me anymore," he added with a smirk. "You won’t see me here all the time."
Venus’s heart pounded in her chest, but anger surged within her. "I don’t like you," she retorted sharply, her voice strong and defiant. "I’d sooner fall for a werewolf than for a vampire like you!"
With a determined turn, she started to walk away, eager to escape the suffocating tension between them before he could make her feel any more awkward or vulnerable.
But just as she was about to leave, Odin’s voice rang out, calm but commanding. "Stop, Venus."
She halted in her steps and turned to look at him with a frown.
Before Venus could understand, Odin kissed her lips, causing her eyes to grew large. The heartbeats which turned steady a moment ago shot high instantly. Her fingers curled and a strange foreign feeling engulfed her, something which she never experienced before.
"I hope you fall for a werewolf or any human soon," Odin said with a grin, and he disappeared from her sight.
Venus’s emotions were churned now. But one thing was certain— Odin had once again thrown her world into disarray, and she wasn’t sure how she would face him the next time they met.
