Chapter 33: Izaak, the First Prince
Alora refrained from meeting the gaze of the person who had just seized her hand, aware that her gaze could potentially reduce the person to ashes.
"Prince Izaak, I implore you to cease," Tobias urged urgently, fearing Alora would look at him.
"The allure of human blood is not something I can resist," Izaak remarked, his lips moistened by a tantalizing lick.
A powerful blow struck him, eliciting a frightened shriek from Alora. The force of the punch sent him hurtling at least a hundred meters away from her, his body skidding to a stop as his feet dug into the soil.
Finally halting, Izaak found himself ensnared by Magnus, who gripped his collar fiercely, their eyes locking in a primal standoff. Their fangs bared as they both emitted menacing growls, the tension between them was palpable.
"Little Brother, you dare raise your hand against your elder brother," Izaak declared, his tone laced with admonition. "I merely desired to savor her blood, nothing more," he insisted.
"It appears you have a death wish. Shall I force you to gaze into her eyes? I would take pleasure in witnessing you reduced to ashes, Brother Izaak," Magnus retorted sternly.
"It’s regrettable to receive such a welcome after such a long time," Izaak lamented, extricating himself from Magnus’s grip. "But your wife is quite remarkable. Despite my touch, she remained steadfast. As Lily described Alora, she is incapable of harming anyone," he proclaimed, a mischievous grin playing on his lips.
"Leave before I have to kick you out," Magnus commanded Izaak firmly. Without further delay, he reached out to Alora, who trembled with fear. Gently enveloping her in his embrace, he guided her inside the residence.
Once they reached the bedroom, Magnus handed her a glass of water. As Alora took a few sips, he couldn’t help but notice her trembling hands, a silent testament to the ordeal she had just endured.
Magnus supported her hand and guided the glass to her mouth. "Drink it," he whispered. His other hand moved to her hair as he caressed it.
After Alora moved her mouth away from the glass, Magnus put it on the table and checked her finger. "Forgive me," he apologized.
"Why?" Alora peered at him.
"My siblings trouble you," Magnus answered.
"I didn’t expect His Highness to hit his elder brother," Alora remarked.
"Izaak is cunning. It’s best to steer clear of him," Magnus cautioned Alora.
The fear in Alora’s voice was palpable as she posed her question. The mere thought of meeting Izaak’s gaze filled her with dread, the weight of potentially causing harm to a royal prince weighing heavily on her conscience.
"Nothing would have happened. He would have simply perished, which, in this case, might have been for the best," Magnus responded honestly, his tone reflecting the complexities of their situation.
"Is His Highness serious? Prince Izaak is his elder brother. He cannot think of him like this," Alora said, tears appearing at the edges of her eyes.
"He has already lived so many years. Why do you even care about the consequences when I’m with you? Touching my woman is something he should not have done," Magnus stated. Back in the garden, he had controlled himself not to pierce the dagger of sleep in Izaak’s heart. That man had been bothering his eyes for a long time.
Alora lowered her eyes as she moved close to him. Her head rested on his chest as she wrapped her hands around him. "I was scared the moment His Highness hit his brother. I thought you two would get into a fight because of me," she said.
Magnus’s hand moved to her head as he patted on it. "Let’s forget what happened in the garden," he opined.
Alora hummed and pulled away. "I asked Tobias the meaning of Your Highness’s name. It means greatest; a person with remarkable strength," she asserted.
"I thought you would search for it," Magnus said.
"It would have taken time and I needed to tell His Highness soon," Alora explained. "Your Highness, what if Prince Izaak complains about you? Is he still here? I’ll introduce myself to him since he’s my elder brother-in-law."
"As for Izaak, there’s no need for introductions. And rest assured, he wouldn’t dare to lodge a complaint. He’s aware of his wrongdoing," Magnus assured her, though the weariness in his tone betrayed his frustration with his siblings.
"Furthermore, there’s no need to be overly sweet with the other men. Just call him Izaak," he added with a hint of annoyance, casting a disapproving glance in her direction.
"I never did that," Alora murmured.
"Oh, you did. You called him your brother-in-law and that too, in such a polite manner," Magnus taunted her.
"Because he’s elder," Alora said.
Magnus chuckled at her response before offering some advice. "Don’t be too polite with men like him. Be assertive. If he dares to approach you in my absence, intimidate him with your gaze," he instructed, imparting some lessons on projecting strength and authority.
Alora nodded her head. "I will try to implement them."
"Do you wish to attend your sister’s marriage?" Magnus suddenly asked her.
"Can I? But I don’t think I am invited," she sighed with an upset look.
"We both are invited," he affirmed as he took out a decorated envelope from inside his pocket. "Here." He handed the envelope to her.
Alora was overjoyed to see the invitation. A smile graced her lips. Although she couldn’t see Venus getting married, being a part of her wedding would be enough for her.
"It became possible because of Prince Magnus. Thank you," she remarked.
"You needn’t say that all the time," Magnus stated. "Also, I’ll soon find a cure for your eyes. I’ll make sure you can look at everyone without any fear," he pronounced.
Alora’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Is that really possible?" she inquired, a hope glimmering in her gaze.
"Absolutely. Anything is possible in this world," Magnus affirmed, his smile warm and reassuring. "If I can marry you, then surely anything is within our reach," he added with a radiant smile, his love for her shining through.
