Chapter 144: I’ll go insane in her absence

Magnus greeted his brothers while looking quite surprised to see Izaak in the Council Hall.

"Shouldn’t Brother Izaak be resting for a few more days?" he queried.

"I got bored lying on the bed the entire time," Izaak responded why he chose to come to the meeting rather than staying in his room.

"The twenty family leaders will be present here today. What do you think their first reaction will be?" Izaak inquired, glancing at Magnus.

"I wonder if they would dare to taunt me leaving the council at a time when the workload was heavy," Magnus remarked with a chuckle. He then gazed at Alaric. "Does the work not bore you? They do the same things all the time." He wished to know Alaric’s opinion on this too.

"I enjoy this work unlike you, Magnus. You lost the interest because you wanted something more exciting for you," Alaric stated.

"So, now, what has brought our dear younger brother back to the council?" Izaak intentionally asked in such a teasing tone.

Alaric smiled and answered, "Alora."

"But she will find it hard to adjust among them," Alaric added.

"That’s why I’ll be by her side all the time," Magnus stated and the three of them took their seats. There was still time for others to come, so the conversation went on between the brothers.

"Last day, Mother came to me, asking me to consider marrying again," Izaak shared with his brothers.

"So, whom will you marry this time?" Magnus questioned.

"I refused her," Izaak replied.

"A marriage goes the two-way. Don’t you think you should have forgiven them? Taking the life isn’t the answer all the time," Magnus suggested to him. He ended up reading Izaak’s current thoughts and realized he was heartbroken. All of them broke his heart. No one truly loved him.

For the first time, Magnus felt there was something more present in Izaak’s heart, which he had buried deep inside him.

"My wives wanted me to take over the throne quickly. They had too many expectations from me, selfish ones. I thought falling in love was a nice feeling, but with them, I realized it didn’t appear so," Izaak said, confiding with the two of them his deep emotions.

"You didn’t find the right woman then," Magnus remarked.

"I observed you and Alora," Izaak said, making Magnus furrow his brows together.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"I felt you’d be bored out of marriage just like me. But you two have a strong relationship with a deep understanding. I am surprised to see how you two have grown together, which is admirable," he asserted.

"That’s why you should wait for the right time to fall in love," Magnus stated. He was aware of how his brother engaged himself sexually later after he killed his last wife. Just a few months back, he stopped. Though Magnus always refrained from leaving comments on this behavior of Izaak, a part of him hated Izaak for this reason. He had forgotten his real personality.

"It seems Brother Izaak wants to fall in love again," Alaric said after keenly listening to him.

"Absolutely not. I enjoy my current life more," Izaak replied with a chuckle.

"Hmm. You should. The way you have made your name among the women, especially among the vampires, won’t allow anyone to come to you and fall in love with you," Magnus taunted him.

Izaak rolled his eyes. "I stopped doing that four months back. Don’t be so harsh on your elder brother with your piercing words," he asserted.

"You almost started it again in Shadowbrook," Magnus stated.

"No. I called the human to drink from her. I paid her well for that. Her father was on his deathbed, so she was in need of some money," Izaak asserted.

Alaric smiled to hear the bickerings of his two brothers when he suddenly recalled how he missed his first love even now. He remained quiet, not wanting to share his sad, one-sided feelings.

"It seems we three came earlier here than usual," Magnus remarked and thought he could have spent more time with Alora. He smiled on his own when his brothers caught that and asked him the reason behind his smile.

"Nothing," Magnus said. "Since when did these Council Members become so indiscipline and non-punctual? Seems like we have to show our strictness," he remarked.

"Don’t you know who the elder is!?" Izaak questioned him.

"How can I forget that self-narcissistic oldie? He is over 400, yet he doesn’t wish to die any sooner," Magnus asserted.

"The oldie will longer than anyone here. That’s why he is the elder. He has quite a good relationship with our father. You should feel lucky that William doesn’t have any daughter or he would have made us marry his daughter... Forcefully and would have used his authority more over the people," Izaak affirmed.

"I wish I were a human," Alaric suddenly said, bringing their attention to him.

"You missed have such a unique ability then," Izaak proclaimed. Alaric possessed the power to freeze anyone if he touched anyone. However, he hardly used it or even flaunted his power, except for a day ago when they had to stop the uncontrollable vampires.

"I think humans enjoy every phase of their lives before embracing death," Alaric stated. "We have attained an age, where we hardly find anything exciting. Magnus chose to live in Elmswood for so many years because he also lost interest in life until Alora came into his life," Alaric explained. He was a deep-thinker and would usually keep contemplating how his life would be if he were born a human.

"Well, Brother Alaric is not wrong. With Alora, my thoughts have changed. I loved being a Vampire, but now, I wish a limited life. This is the reason, I don’t wish to change her into a vampire because she will hate being not Alora anymore," Magnus asserted.

"Shouldn’t you love her even if she becomes a vampire?" Izaak confusedly asked him.

"Of course, I will. I will love her even if she becomes a vampire. But the fact is I can’t withstand tears in her eyes. I still remember when she told me it’s not fun to live a long life. Furthermore, I don’t wish to see her lie in the coffin for one whole year just to become a vampire. I’ll go insane in her absence," Magnus stated.
