Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Stupid and Venomous Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Stupid and Venomous “Grandmother, this is unfair,” Li Jingming tried to defend himself. “Just because of some baseless accusations, you want to kick me out of the house? I don’t accept this.”

“I am making a decision here, not discussing it with you,” Mr. Lai looked indifferently at Li Jingming. “No one cares about your opinion.”

With that statement, Li Jingming’s face turned even paler, devoid of any color, and he seemed to be on the verge of collapse, as if he could faint at any moment.

Mr. Lai didn’t even glance at Li Jingming again and continued, “I am laying down my decree here today. Remember, from now on, Li Jingming is no longer a member of the Lai family. Whether you choose to associate with him in the future is your own business, I won’t interfere. But remember this: anyone who dares to use the Lai family’s resources to help Li Jingming will be thrown out along with him.”

Instantly, everyone’s faces tightened, and they became extremely grave.

It was clear to everyone that Old Sir and Old Mrs. Lai were determined to cast out Li Jingming this time, given such harsh words.

Nonetheless, even if Old Sir hadn’t spoken, they had no intention of associating with Li Jingming anymore.

Although Li Jingming had entered the Lai family, in their hearts, they really didn’t think highly of this illegitimate child. Not just because of his background, but also because of his former self-righteousness and lack of gratitude. Now that they were finally driving this misfit out, they were not too far from setting off firecrackers in celebration.

“You have one day to pack your things and leave the Lai family.”

After dropping that sentence, Mr. Lai and Mrs. Lai left the living room.

The others exchanged looks, eventually leaving the living room in twos and threes. Those who were on relatively good terms naturally gathered together, discussing the news of Li Jingming being expunged from the Lai family.

Finally, only Li Jingming was left standing alone in the living room, desolate.

After a while, as if he had thought of something, he gritted his teeth and walked towards the study.

Mr. Lai and Mrs. Lai were talking in the study when they heard a knock on the door.

The two looked at each other and saw a hint of realization in each other’s eyes.

Sure enough, under their gaze, the door to the study opened and Li Jingming walked in.

Seeing that it was Li Jingming, neither was surprised; they remained calm, seated without even lifting their eyelids.

“Grandfather, Grandmother–” Li Jingming had just begun to speak when Mr. Lai interrupted him.

“You’re mistaken in your address,” Mr. Lai raised his hand, stopping Li Jingming’s speech. “As I said earlier, you have been expelled from the Lai family. You are no longer part of the Lai family. I am not your grandfather, do not address me incorrectly.”

Li Jingming’s face was full of disbelief; he didn’t expect Mr. Lai to be so ruthless that he wasn’t even allowed to use that title anymore.

However, thinking of the purpose of his visit, he tried to suppress the anger in his heart, took a deep breath, and began, “Old Sir, Old Madam, I just want to ask one question. Why are you expelling me from the house? Is it just based on Zhong Nianyao’s few words, that you treat your own grandson this way?”

“Then let me ask you, have you ever hired someone to commit murder?” Mr. Lai stared intently at Li Jingming, his presence overwhelming, making the atmosphere in the room a bit more oppressive. “Tell the truth, do not lie.”

Li Jingming raised his head, wanting to deny it confidently. However, whenever he looked into Mr. Lai’s eyes, which seemed to see through everything, all the words he wanted to say just couldn’t come out.

But, realizing he was about to be kicked out anyway, he could only try to restrain the panic in his heart, not daring to meet Old Sir’s gaze, and gritted his teeth to say, “No, I haven’t done anything.”

Hearing Li Jingming’s denial, Mr. Lai’s face was full of disappointment as he shook his head and said, “Li Jingming, if you stood here and honestly admitted to your actions, I might still respect you as a man. Apparently, you don’t possess a shred of the Lai family’s integrity. Your innate bad qualities must have come from your lowly mother!”

“Old Sir,” Li Jingming cried out in shock. “Why don’t you believe me? I am your grandson! How can you treat me this way just based on a few words from outsiders?”

“Li Jingming, I’ll tell you the truth!” Mr. Lai began, “If you can hire someone to kill Zhong Nianyao today, are you not capable of doing the same to your brothers tomorrow?”

“I wouldn’t!” Li Jingming instinctively denied.

“There’s no need to deny it,” Mr. Lai raised his hand. “Only you know what you truly think; we don’t. Also, another important thing to note is that you are both vile and foolish.”

“You underestimate Zhong Nianyao and overestimate yourself, which is why you think such acts would remain unnoticed. Our Lai family would never stand against Zhong Nianyao for your sake because–”

At this point, Mr. Lai’s piercing gaze landed on Li Jingming. “You simply do not hold that value.”

Hearing this last part, Li Jingming couldn’t believe his ears.

He sensed from Mr. Lai’s words the high regard and importance he placed on Zhong Nianyao, and realized a fact: in Mr. Lai’s eyes, Zhong Nianyao held a much higher status than he did.

This reality was utterly unacceptable to him.

“Don’t think that in this world, you are smarter than everyone else,” Mr. Lai continued. “Zhong Nianyao isn’t as simple as you think. Your so-called hiring of murderers is just petty nonsense to her, not worthy of mention.”

Li Jingming looked at Mr. Lai, his eyes full of disbelief.

Clearly, he was unwilling to believe Mr. Lai’s words.

“That’s all I have to say,” Mr. Lai shook his head. “There’s no need for you to say anything more. Since I’ve made my decision, it is absolutely not going to change.”

“From now on, fend for yourself!”

“Get out!”

With that, he waved his hand, signaling for Li Jingming to leave.

Not having achieved the outcome he desired, Li Jingming left with a lost and devastated expression.
