In the car, Zhong Niangyao sat in the passenger seat and pulled out a gift box from her bag. Upon opening it, she sighed in relief when she saw the undamaged ‘Imperial Green’ carved longevity peach.

“Is everything okay?” Lu Yichen, who was driving, asked curiously after noticing Zhong Niangyao’s actions.

Zhong Niangyao directly picked up the carved longevity peach and smiled, “Isn’t it beautiful?”

Lu Yichen glanced at it briefly, “That’s the ‘Imperial Green’ previously opened in Myanmar.”

“Yes!” Zhong Niangyao nodded, “It’s leftover material. Grandfather’s birthday is coming soon, this is a gift specially for him.”

Lu Yichen nodded and then, seemingly nonchalant, inquired, “Did you carve it yourself?”

His tone carried a hint of sourness, as Zhong Niangyao had yet to hand-make any gift for him.

“No!” Zhong Niangyao didn’t notice Lu Yichen’s jealousy; she placed the longevity peach back into the gift box and then put it in her bag, “It was carved by a master from Zhong’s Jewelry, just finished today. I had planned to get this ornament and head straight home. But, unluckily, I ran into this kidnapping.”

If those four were still alive, they would probably be furious at such a remark!

Who was truly unlucky? Blundering into trouble with a demoness without understanding anything; in the end, they didn’t just lose out–they lost their lives and souls, vanishing completely from this world.

Lu Yichen chuckled and then suggested, “Let’s grab some food first, then I’ll take you home.”

“Let’s go home directly!” However, Zhong Niangyao shook her head, “I already promised Grandpa and Grandma that I would return for dinner tonight. With this kidnapping holding me up, it’s better to get back sooner rather than later, lest they worry.”

Though his suggestion was declined, Lu Yichen simply nodded.

Zhong Niangyao didn’t feel much, but during dinner, she keenly felt a strange gaze on her. Looking up, she caught Li Yiqiu in her stealthy watch.

Startled, Li Yiqiu had merely glanced at Zhong Niangyao twice without deeper thought but was caught in the act. She immediately withdrew her gaze.

But soon she felt it rather awkward, akin to flagging one’s hidden money by denying its presence.

With frustration, she no longer looked at Zhong Niangyao and kept her head down to focus on her meal, pondering her own concerns.
