Chapter 37: Invitation

Rose who had been quiet all along finally spoke "Grandpa, instead of investigating, we can just invite mom over during the weekend, I know she won’t turn down our invitation."

She suggested because she also wanted to know about her maternal family. She only knew that she has a jerk of a father but doesn’t know if she even has grandparents.

Father Lu nodded his head, "Sister Rebecca might have the answers we are looking for. After the meal, let us make a call to her and invite her over."

They all nodded in understanding.

"Let us all eat before the food gets cold."

Mother Lu reminded them and they all proceeded to have their meals peacefully but all had one question in mind, ’Who is Rebecca and who exactly is Nicole?’

After their meals, they all gathered in the living room having some tea when Jane put the phone in loud speaker, calling her aunt Rebecca.

Everyone else was quiet as they waited for her to pick and she did.

"Hello Jane, missing your aunt so soon?"

This time, Rose was the one who replied.

"Mom, you are so bad! Your daughter here misses you and I don’t even know where you are! Your baby misses you! Come to the Lu mansion on Saturday mom, we all miss you."

There was laughter on the other end which died down immediately Rose mentioned Lu mansion.

Rebecca hesitated before she replied, "My dear daughter, you know I can’t. I do not know what the elders think of me after I ran away without even telling them. Every parent supports their child Rose. I am sure right now they are on Jonathan’s side and I am on the wrong in their eyes... I..."

She was cut off before she could even finish, "I never knew my daughter-in-law can think that I, Ethan Lu can support such an evil child, a child who cannot even respect his own woman!" Grandpa Lu’s voice resounded scaring Rebecca. She did not even know how to reply.

Grandma Lu sighed and said to her, "My dear daughter-in-law, we were aware when you ran away with Rose but you never wanted to involve us so Jane stepped out to help you on behalf of the whole family. We have always watched her grow and we also want to know if you’re are okay wherever you are. Even if you divorced him, you are still our daughter-in-law." She finished her statement making Rebecca start shading tears on the other end.

"Thank you mo...mother, thank you..... Father...."

She had a hard time pronouncing those two names but finally did it.

"Aiyo Sister, come to the mansion in Saturday, we have alot to catch up you know, there is a lot of fashion in the market currently."

Mother Lu said trying to ease the atmosphere and it worked.

They spoke for a few more minutes before the call was disconnected. Nicole was just listening but Rebecca’s voice provided some sense of security she never felt even with mother Lu.

They bid each other goodnight and each of them headed to their rooms.

Jane looked at the two girls and proposed they watch TV a little bit before retiring to bed.

Since it was still early, they both agreed and went to Jane’s room since she wanted them to watch from her room.

They did not think much and agreed. Jane chose a slow romance novel, which she was sure the two girls would get bored easily.

In less than an hour, the two girls were showing signs of dozing off and Jane smiled in satisfaction. She started combing through their hair with two different combs for some minutes before stopping.

She looked at the two combs, each having some few strands of hair from both heads.

Perfect! She did not know whether her idea would work but she could try it out. It doesn’t hurt after all.
