Chapter 36: Encounter

Jane tried brushing the issue off but her instincts were strongly against it. She couldn’t help but stare at the two again.

Grandpa Lu who noticed Jane had not touched her food and called her but the girl did not respond.

The rest of the members noticed it when Grandpa Lu called her for the second time.

She felt a tap on her shoulders which brought her back to reality.

"Are you okay princess?" Father Lu asked in a worried voice.

It was then that Jane realized that everyone was staring at her that she cleared her throat awkwardly.

"I am fine dad, sorry for being absent minded."

Jane is a person who hates not being sure about something and she knew her inner self would never be wrong.

"Jane, what is the matter? What made you zone out?" Grandpa Lu asked not wanting to drop the issue because he knew his granddaughter very well.

Jane looked at him for a minute and to check whether her eyes were not playing games on her, she decided to ask the question that has been bothering her.

"Grandpa, I don’t know if my eyes are playing games on me but don’t you all see some similarities between Nicole and Rose?"

She asked making the whole family turn their attention to Rose and Nicole and indeed they could see something they have never bothered to clearly look at.

The two girls indeed looked like twins! The only difference was that one was chubbier than the other.

Even if they wanted to deny it, they could clearly see Rebecca’s face in Nicole.

Grandma Lu was the first one to come out of the shock. " How is this even possible? You are a Xi Nicole and Rose is a Lu... how?"

Nicole stiffened hearing the name ’Xi’ and covered her ears tightly.

"Grandma please don’t call those monsters, they will hurt me.. don’t grandma, don’t.. "

The girl started shedding tears before anyone could realize, sending the whole room into a panic.

Mother Lu immediately rushed to her side and started rubbing her back talking to her in a soothing voice, "Relax my baby girl, you are not related to those monsters, no one will harm you, we are all here."

This went on for some minutes until the girl relaxed and mother Lu started feeding her silently.

Rose was still in shock as she couldn’t understand what exactly was happening, why was Nicole similar to her?

Grandma Lu cleared her throat to get everyone’s attention. She turned and looked at Nicole first, "My dear girl, we will help you overcome the Xi Family because one day you might end up meeting them and you never know where because we are all in the city. If you end up meeting them and they see your vulnerability, the might take advantage of you so please don’t be afraid and let grandma help you."

The others nodded their heads showing they completely agreed with what she was saying. It was indeed true, they have to help her overcome those people because they never knew when they would encounter the Xi Family. None of them would have thought that they might encounter them one by one, sooner than expected.

"Second, we must dig deep into your origin princess, there is a chance you might not be a Xi and we have to come to the bottom of this. I am sure this is not just a coincidence."

It was then that something struck Grandma Lu and she looked at her husband with a horrified expression, "Old man! We never investigated our daughter-in-law’s origin. We only know she comes from Country B!"

Grandpa Lu immediately realized the mistake. Maybe the whole mystery has something to do with Rebecca’s origin. When Jonathan brought her, he told them that she only comes from country B but did not explain everything in details.
