The Undead system -
Chapter 66: duel (2)
Chapter 66: duel (2)
Having some knowledge about weapons, the goblins got to work. Nodding in acknowledgement to their king jack, seated comfortable on a rock. They then divided themselves into two teams, sharing the items.
The first two male goblins to step up were the same height, one a bit bulkier, in no armour cladding whatsoever. In their hands was a dagger each and a shield.
Taking a fighting stance, the goblins didn’t mindlessly charge at each other. Standing still, waiting for the order.
"Begin." Jack barely uttered in a low tone, casually waving his hands. Not waiting they both charged at each other, with the same speed.
’Clang!’ Their daggers clashed together, sending some sparks of light in the air. Both holding their ground, refusing to be overwhelmed.
’It’s impressive how much strength these little creatures have.’ Jack chuckled intrigued, seeing neither side refusing to back down from the clash. Their strength was nothing compared to him now but still. They were strong nevertheless, for rank f opponents to begin with.
[Goblins are mainly known for their brute strength and stamina. Oh! They also breed a lot!] The system shouted almost forgotten, to which jack simply rolled his eyes.
’I’ve created a monster.’ He shook his head, as it was his fault the system was like this. Normally, it had a cold and distinct tone, without any emotions whatsoever. But jack, being the good samaritan he was decided to teach it some few tricks. But unfortunately, the student had now became the master.
[Don’t be such a crybaby, you were a tad bit intelligent master.]
’Bam!’ His attention was pulled back down to the ongoing duel. He could see the goblin by the right sent skidding back, by a kick from the latter. A cut was made on the goblin by the left arm, with blood seeping out.
"Argh!" It screamed enraged, running with bloodshot eyes. Each step it took contained power, creating small dents where he stepped.
’Is it just me or did it just get stronger?’ Jack could’ve sworn the charging goblin, magically just got stronger now. Seeing how much power just a kick from it contained, equivalent to a quarter of his strength.
[You’re not wrong. Am sensing some spikes in it’s aura also, like it’s feeding off an energy.] The system confirmed jack’s suspicions, analyzing the goblin.
’Bam! bam!’ It slammed the daggers like a bat, rather than slashing it to the goblin by the right on defense, with his shield raised.
"What’s it doing?"
According to the system, the items sold in the shop were way more durable and efficient, than normal crafted one’s. But, he could vividly see crack lines at the center of the shield.
’Bam! bam! bam! The defensive goblin could also feel it’s shield would give out, any moment now. Gripping his dagger tightly, he timed the goblin in front movement.
"Hold.." he steadied himself waiting for the right moment.
’Bam!’ the smasher’s goblin dagger blasted into bits, giving out.
"Now’s my chance." Steeling his resolve he plunged his dagger forward, stabbing the latter in the gut.
"Ph-ough! phough!" The rampaging goblin coughed up fresh blood, staring down. His eyes widened a bit, seeing the goblin below plunge it’s dagger to his guts.
Enraged, it attempted to use his leg as a weapon again. But the goblin with the shield was prepared. Avoiding the kick, and pulling the dagger out.
Green blood gushed out, but the smasher goblin was unfazed it’s sanity gone, replaced with a wild dangerous killing intent.
With no weapons in hand, it proceed to use his fists instead without a care in the world. Prepping himself, the goblin with the dagger avoided the first fist by the skin of his teeth. Using the shield to block the other fist from the enraged goblin.
’Bam!’ The shield snapped breaking into smaller bits, unable to withstand the raw power.
With a calm grin, the goblin with the dagger slashed in an arc motion. His movements swift and precise, like a soldier with battle experience.
"Damn you!" This further enraged the bulkier type goblin, making his blood boil more. Like a malfunctioning robot, it swung his arm without coordination or control to the latter.
"Fuck!" Gritting his teeth, the goblin with the dagger went on defense again. Barely dodging the rampaging opponent’s strikes.
’Bam!’ A strike made it’s way to the average goblin chest, sending the latter flying back. Crashing into a rock denting it. Fresh green blood coughed up, by the goblin to the ground.
’Crack!’ It tried to move but couldn’t, with some broken bones. But that wasn’t the least of his worries, no! In front, the bulkier goblin could be seen ramming through like a bull.
’G-get up!’ He inwardly screamed but to no avail, his body was just critically injured to move. Seeing the charging goblin just 4 meters from him, he knew it was the end.
"Enough!" A voice commanded, causing the rampaging goblin movements to slow down, coming to a halt. With a small leap, jack softly landed in between the two goblins.
His eyes contained a hint of crazed excitement, that crept fear into the heart of both goblins.
"What’s your name?" He calmly asked the bulkier goblin.
"Yuil tai, your highness."He replied, his head bowed slightly. Nodding, jack then turned to the other goblin on the floor. His face retaining the normal wary smile.
"And you?"
"I-it’s merold your highness." He stuttered shivering, oppressed by jack’s aura.
Getting up, Jack then stared at the remaining crowds of goblin male’s awaiting his judgement.
"Well.. as you all have witnessed, yuil tai is the victor and will be rewarded." The male troops all cheered, applauding yuil who simply scoffed with a proud chest.
"And our loser us.. merold." Jack calmly uttered in a downcast tone.
’i-is this it? Am I really going to die?’ Many thoughts flashed through merold eyes, in that spilt second. He clearly knew the rule, the loser must be killed by the victor.
But he didn’t want to die. No! he had not yet achieved all his goals and now, he was about to be sacrificed like an offering because he lost a duel?
"A-am not dying!" Merold screamed like a madman, gritting his teeth through the searing pain. Quickly locating his dagger that had fallen, he attempted to stand with a flicker of hope in his eyes.
’Bam!’ Before he could even attempt to stand, a figure appeared in front. Raising his leg jack stomped hard, squashing the goblin’s head. Splattering brain juices and blood everywhere.
"Such a waste." Jack scorned in disgust, wiping his boots in the sand. Yes he’d stated the loser would die, but he had other plans for merold. Seeing how well he fought, wanting to train him. but sadly, the latter was unwise.
"Your strength. it suddenly increased during battle, do you have an ability?" Jack impatiently spoke, making yuil blink in disbelief.
’H-how did he know?’ He wondered in shock, seeing jack had gained onto him. It wasn’t really noticeable, considering his wild and brute fighting style but still. He couldn’t hide it from the king, even though he tried.
"My siege, I do posses an ability that greatly increases my strength. But I am oblivious to the name or how it works, as I was recently rewarded with it by the previous king."
Hearing him, jack was no doubt surprised. ’the goblin king could give out abilities?’ Normally, abilities were a thing of the supernatural, granting the host unimaginable powers. Some being to bend elements, space and time, blood and so on.
As for how they were aquired he didn’t really know, but plaused there were various ways. So hearing yuil mentioned the goblin king giving out an ability, made his stomach churn.
[It has to be the horse. The ex goblin king was a mage and not a necromancer. Having a higher magic capability than his rank, but nothing more. The horse on the other hand I could not analyze. but am leaning on it’s class, having something to do with summoning and black magic.]
’Exactly what I thought. Seems like we have a lot in common than I thought.’ Jack slightly chuckled, intrigued to encounter the horse again.
"Very well then, all those with abilities step to this side." He gestured pointing to yuil. A few male goblins of about 10 in total stepped out, joining yuil.
"You have all passed the first stage of the training process." He stated, making their eyes widen not expecting declaration at all.
"As for the rest of you you may continue the duel. And the rules remains the same, the loser must die." He coldy said in disgust, staring at a bunch of rejects.
As king, he wanted to equip and train his soldiers with the little number they were. but it didn’t necessarily mean he had to keep the the worthless one’s. Only selecting the potential and more promising candidates, getting rid of the waste products.
And so the duel continued, with more male goblins stepping forth. Furiously battling for their lives literally in their hands. The sounds of weapons clashing against another echoed in the air, along with several cries and screams.
